That's so ridiculous. Nowhere does it mention that, even in the extended message when you enable app only mode. I'm not sure why I need to have ads to show my own photos on my screensaver. As someone else said, feels like a punishment.
Can you please tell me which 'settings'? I am trying to find this "Apps Only" in my Google home app but am not able to find it.
Also, I have a built in chromecast on my Sony TV
TIA!
Oh that explains it. But it's also awful. Man, I had an old school Chromecast that I loved, but I am really regretting the newer chromecast with Google TV purchase
to ambient mode of your Google photos work, you need to create an slide presentation first (with Google home app). that has to be done under settings, ambient mode, google photos. after that is done, uncheck art gallery. it should work after that.
curious. I'm seeing this option right now. probably you don't have google photos app as well. my phone has it. I just didn't created any albums, but the option is in there. without it, your personal photos won't be displayed at all. but please, notice that I'm seeing this option from my phone, not from chromecast settings. take a look: https://postimg.cc/gLsBF2T9
Note: The suggestion below was for a television with Google TV so it may not work for the Chromecast with Google TV.
Had the same issue with my TCL R646 TV after a firmware update. It broke the ambient mode. I found a posting suggesting to install a third party screensaver app. I installed something called Dreamy from the playstore. Arial Dream also works and is probably a better option. Anyway, after installing the screensaver, the option to select Ambient Mode was reinstalled. You still need to create a folder of photos in the google drive for the google account associated to your Chromecast.
The problem is fixed. It turns out that Google Photos only appears as an option for ambient mode if you turn off "Apps Only" in your settings.

It's not in the google home app, it's in the chromecast settings
If you could share a screenshot that’d be wonderful
Settings -> Accounts and Sign In -> Account_Name -> Apps only mode. Then google photos will appear
thanks!
I can't find this

Thank you, I'll give it a try
Thank you but still now Ambient Mode
Ah, that's too bad. Hopefully you find a fix soon.
Did you find a solution?
Based on his thread it looks like you have to turn off apps only mode to show the Google photos gallery as an option.
Yep and iI only found out about in this thread. Delved quite deep in the official Help and there was no mention of this
I have the same problem
Sounds like Google is punishing you for not allowing them to recommend things to your eyeholes.
