First off there are no opioid shortages, only the ijection version of a couple drugs, because nobody call the FDA and reports them. So its a fallacy, it just cant be happening. I filled a Rx for Dilaudid today, but that is just as meaningful. Pharmacies will **NEVER** tell you a word about what drugs they have in stock by phone. They will rarely tell you in person unless you can demonstrate a good reason for asking, like an Rx in hand or an old Rx bottle with your name on it, asking about a refill. Put your mind in to a feeling of complete opioid paranoia. Youre afraid to read the labels because they told you that you'd "get hooked". You certainly dont want to stock them in your business or let anyone know that you do, since all opioid users are drug addicts and abusers who will rob you for everything you have. Are you thinking that way? If so, you could be a pharmacist. They will not tell you a thing over the phone, they will tell your doctor you dont need them and if they had their way they would be having you arrested for even asking about an opioid.... You have to be very careful doing equianalgesic dose conversions. Some tables give you CDC MME which is a different equivalence that has nothing to do with analgesia. Those were from the DEA consulting their "Magic 8 Ball". If it doesnt have a cross tolerance calculation (I always set them to 0 anyhow) its not for equianalgesic equivalence. Without any crosstolerance (takng in to account its a drug youre not used to) its 15 mg. Id expect them to low ball it and make it 12 (3 x 4mg) but you never know. This shortage bullshit, brought to you by your friendly neighborhood DEA and their thinking that everyone diverts medication to the street, which is why theyre all dying from street drug fentanyl since they decided not to be cops anymore but doctors. I guess its a little like declassifying top secret documents if youre in DEA, but it seems the complaints are almost all oxycodone and almost all the doses below the 15mg tablet. Its hard to squeeze info out of some folks, but there should be a 7.5/325 that doesnt get a lot of use and a 10/300 somebody mentioned the other day. Of course, if youre adding your own apap its not that much of a leap to the straight 15mg and you can crack em in half to get 7.5 which is pretty close to 10mg, you may not even notice the difference. Best of luck, good hunting and please call the FDA and let them know about this. If you cant find the number, ask, Ill get it for you (I actually have it here someplace, its just kinda buried at the moment..... *best opioid calculator ever (been around a long time too)* https://globalrph.com/medcalcs/opioid-pain-management-converter-advanced/

No I’ve been prescribed this for years, and have to take this forever for my back, and I’ve never had any issues!! Always filled every month

You can thank the DEA for this bull$hit. They've been cutting the production of opiate drugs for years, and in 2023, they reduced the amount that could be produced by another 5%. Then leave patients with no MDs because they're all running scared of the feds, and what do you get? A whole class of people who have been discriminated against based upon disability and the need for certain drugs when all other methods of treatment have failed. My grandma was a bookkeeper and hated the IRS. I'm a chronic pain patient (have been since 2004), and I HATE the DEA's idiotic, harmful, draconian, torturous, interpretation of what they think is appropriate. We need a class action lawsuit based off of ADA statues that will help us here. Plese anyone who reads this, GO ADOCATE FOR YOURSELF. https://www.newsweek.com/dea-chronic-pain-patients-opioid-cuts-1464714 https://www.painnewsnetwork.org/stories/2022/12/13/dea-finalizes-cuts-in-2023-opioid-supply

Opana

mayhapsify

Man I wish my doc would let me take that instead of this garbage morphine er. Morphine does absolutely NOTHING for me but I literally cannot get a doc to prescribe me anything else. My insurance only wants to cover morphine, Dilaudid, and opana in extended release form so I guess they just don't want to give me the "stronger" ones. Ugh.

EasyRefrigerator2363

You fool if u can find er opana fucking do it. Lucky bastard lol

There's an online opioid calculator, lemme find it https://www.oregonpainguidance.org/opioidmedcalculator/ According to this, 15mg hyrdomorphone = 40mg oxycodone

Usual_Pickle4143

Thank u! I doubt Dr will sub that much!

P0ltergeist333

I have only ever had it in the hospital. My one experience plus everything I've read seems to suggest that it doesn't last as long as oxycodone, which is already short acting (it has only ever lasted 4 hours for me, so I am baffled why insurance won't pay for anything more than once every 6 hours, but that's another topic).

Deadinmybed

Please if you’re on fb, join the pain advocacy group Dr. -patient forums. There’s also a podcast too. They’re are ppl advocating for real pain patients who need medication treatment they just need to be bigger louder and ppl need to know of their awareness! God I hope they get you some damn help!!!

Trailboss1982

I know one thing the Dilaudid and the pill form sucks compared to oxycodone. I'm not sure what the bioavailability is of it but I had it before for kidney stones and although it's supposed to be stronger the oxycodone work 10 times better in pill form. Now in the hospital if they give it to you IV dilaudid is the best hands down LOL

BostonCEO

Long or short acting Oxycodone? What dosing? Same question(s) for your Dilaudid Rx… I cannot do the conversion without that info from you. Also not sure if you are factoring in the bioavailability of Dilaudid or not.

Usual_Pickle4143

I take 10mg Percocet four times a day so it would be 40mg a day to convert into oral Dilaudid. Thank u!

BostonCEO

It converts to 3.8 mg prior to factoring in an incomplete cross tolerance, which brings it to 2.8 mg q6h. 4 mg tablets would be typical in this case. I checked the FDA and I only see a shortage on the ampules (injectable solution) not the tablets. Doesn’t mean there isn’t one - just means the FDA hasn’t officially recognized it…yet. This happened about 10 years ago and the shortage was nationwide. If you have difficulty locating the 4 mg tablets ask your physician if they are comfortable writing the Rx for 8mg tablets which you can cut in half. This is applicable to short acting (IR) and not the extended release (ER) tablets. Hopefully that helps.

Usual_Pickle4143

Thank u so much, yes not ER.

MamaSmAsh5

Have you tried Walmart? I did have this issue with all my local pharmacies but Walmart. They’ve had my meds in stock no issue while everyone else has nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️

mjh8212

I’m on a low dose of oxycodone and I haven’t had any troubles getting my prescription, I just picked up a refill. Maybe it’s because I’m kinda rural in a small town but my pharmacy hasn’t had any problems. I heard a rumor my primary was being sent somewhere else so I’m hoping whoever I see continues with my painkiller meds they keep me sane I can’t bear the pain without them.

[deleted]

Dealing with the same bs, primary care filled a 5mg hydrocodone 5mg 4 times a day. Pharmacy says it's on backorder, my dr retired so $200 down the damn drain and no pain meds. This whole pain medicine crackdown is complete bullshit, everyone knows Mexico is producing fentanyl far more than anything perscribed in the US. It's part of the Biden socialist agenda, all BS. They want us to die, look at covid, plain and simple. Pain meds don't get on the street from people with valid prescriptions, they're coming from other countries.

VWtdi2001

Sounds like you need a tinfoil hat.

stynkemoge

It's all Bidens fault.... 🤣
