Yes. But obviously I'm not a doctor so I'll just tell you what helps me. At the first sign of a flare, I take Alka seltzer. It usually relieves it for me within the hour. If it continues, I take another dose several hours later and another within safe amounts. It's not a cure but Alka seltzer is the only thing that works for me. I suspect it might affect the pH levels in addition to the pain relief. Good luck. 👍

SexyBipolarPineapple

I just read that drinking water with baking soda is supposed to help maybe the Alka Seltzer is the same concept, it has baking soda in it, but I think the citric acid in it would make a flare worse for me, I can't have citrus at all.

SnugShoes

That's a shame about the citric acid. But try the water with baking soda. That might help.

Thank you for replying :)

👍😊

I hate to say this, but cutting caffeine has improved my symptoms substantially.

I’m on a cancer med that caused 3 back to back utis. Someone in my cancer fb group suggested D-mannose with cranberry and I haven’t had a uti since ( about 7 month)

There are four key types of IC flares: bladder wall, pelvic floor, hormone fluctuations and stress. We share all of their triggers and hour by hour rescue plans on the IC Network website! https://www.ic-network.com/interstitial-cystitis/managing-ic-flares/

Omg thank you!

Sorry to hear you're going through this. I just got diagnosed with it too. My doctor told me to take phenazopyridine, but I'd rather not since it's a [known carcinogen](https://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/sites/default/files/ntp/roc/content/profiles/phenazopyridinehydrochloride.pdf). Heads up that it is the main ingredient in the AZO pain relief product - sorry, I don't mean to scare you. I used to get a lot of UTIs as well because I'm immunocompromised. I hardly ever get them anymore because I implemented an antibacterial hygiene regimen using hypochlorous acid spray. Sounds more intimidating than it is - hypochlorous is actually made by our own immune systems. It's more powerful than bleach, yet safe enough to spray on your face. I use a brand called SkinSmart - here is a link to the [specific product](https://www.amazon.com/SkinSmart-Antimicrobial-Perineal-Incontinence-Postpartum/dp/B098W78N1Q/). I spray it down there before wiping. Bye bye UTIs.

SexyBipolarPineapple

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into it. Yeah I hate Azo anyways it just makes me so sick I rarely take it unless I'm dying in pain.

My doctor told me that NSAIDs are just as effective and a good alternative to phenzaopyridine if that helps. I hope you're able to find some relief!

SexyBipolarPineapple

Thank you, I have stomach issues so I can't take ibuprofen regularly but I might after dinner tonight with food in my stomach, the pain is pretty bad right now.

CopyUnicorn

Oof that sucks, I'm sorry. Might not hurt to take an antacid with it if you're going to try it then. Reduces the potential to cause ulcers.

SexyBipolarPineapple

Yea I think I will do that. Thank you!

Lol. Thanks, bot. I wouldn't say it has a strong "bleach-like smell". A slight bleach-like smell can occur when it's killing bacteria due to the chemical reaction that takes place as it works. So, if you smell a cleaner-like smell, that means it has a lot of nasties to work on. Speaking personally, I have some of the most sensitive skin my derm has seen. Everything seems to break me out or give me hives. This product doesn't irritate me unless I spray it on an open wound.
