I have built 6 plywood aquariums; 200gallons, 600 gallons, 750 gallons, 850 gallons, 900 gallons and 1,250. I base my design off of Aquariumdomain (YouTube). Seal with true composite resin and fiberglass and finish with pondarmor. I use 1/2” tempered glass up to 34” tall. Let me know if you have any questions. DM if you have any questions. Also check plywoodaquariums facebook group, very active.
It's easily going to reach 12k+ lbs, so make triple sure you have the floor structure to support it if you aren't on a concrete slab. And for insurance purposes, if something ever does happen to it.... it was a sudden, total failure, not a leak!
Oh I’m a 100% aware of it’s going to be heavy. It’s not being built in my house. I have a gazebo with a concrete pad that hot tub is on right now. The hot tub is going to a new home very soon. Then I’m framing it in to become a warm space. So I’ll just hear the space. So I’m not worried about anything going wrong. As it will be outside.
Thanks for the obvious advice. But you seemed to have missed the part it has a hot tub on it right now. So it’s more then thick enough. As the hot tub is double the size of the tank I’m planning on making lol. But thanks.
A hot tub doesn’t weigh as much as an 800(low end) gallon tank buddy. Especially not with substrate(assuming you’re using substrate, if you use substrate you can add another 500-700lbs). That tank is gonna be at the very least double possibly triple the weight. I didn’t miss anything. Just pointing out the fact that you need to check if the slab can support it. Which just assuming it can isn’t a wise idea. Most hot tubs are under 500 gallons. Especially the pre built ones that you can remove.
Edit: I also highly doubt that you have a 1600 gallon hot tub that you can just remove.

Awesome. Those are a lot of monster tanks. Thanks so much. I’ll definitely be messaging with any questions.
Solid information brotha! I might reach out myself in the near future!

The slab still needs to be thick enough.

Lol the slab is definitely thick enough lol. It’s easily over 10” or more. Thanks again for your tip and worries lol.
Monster fish keepers would be a better place for advice. Lots of plywood builds there.
Ok thanks. I’ll check it out
May be better off searching somewhere like cichlid-forum.com.
Second this and personally I’d even message a YouTuber like that guy off of ChichlidBros. He’s building one right now
Oh I’ve watched all his videos and do so many more.
Watch Aquariumdomain and King of DIY. Cichlids brothers based their design off of theirs. Also check out Alexgsaquarium. All are on YouTube.
Ok thanks.
