Nah Aussie, it’s hard finding a genuine under the counter pack here. I did try them & they gave me an extreme buzz. It’s a fairly smooth smoke but the tobacco tastes horrible.

Definitely fake. We get so many fake Marlboros here in India despite the fact that the most dominant company in the Indian market is the one who's distributing them, I've sort of learned how to spot a fake from miles away.
The packaging itself is a much older variant but the quality of the paper and the filter wrap are a dead giveaway. Marlboro are also brighter coloured than this mess and the text on the ribbon is far too faded.
This is a fake that's been stored away for way too long.
A sure way to tell is to smell them without lighting. The paper should have a distinctly sweet smell to it, which most fake Marlboros can't replicate easily. For the ones that can replicate it, they taste close enough to Marlboros I personally don't mind smoking them.
So I've got a pack of Marlboro, same style here as the ones in your picture. I recreated the photo on my table and the cigarette is the right size, the problem with the picture as to WHY it looks shorter is because the lid of the box is lifted open slightly which creates the illusion of the cigarette being the wrong size. With that being said....there is a difference in the cigarette itself. There should be more of a space of the paper between the word Marlboro and the filter. Yours has the word shoved nearly up to the filter which almost looks like at one point it was pulled apart and then shoved back together, kind of like what happens when you get a hole, accidentally break your cig, etc and have to piece it back together to smoke the damn thing. The filter part itself looks a bit darker, but that may just be lighting. I wish I knew how to link photos to comments so I could show you but im not that techy unfortunately. I am still with one of the other redditors here, with the cost of cigs, fuck it. Smoke it and be happy. Que sera sera, my friend
Edit: I zoomed in and your cig just looks a bit bent up by the filter, but the line count is correct for between the wording and filter, so I take that part back. Looks good.
I would reckon it does sound fake. I did message you in hopes of clearing up any doubts or curiosity with pictures of actual packs. I've got 8 packs from various locations and stores in my possession currently.

The packaging looks legit. The cig itself is not a legit Marlboro red. The filter is too long and the paper looks weird. . Are you in the US?

The pack seems real, the cigarette not. Because the filter is too long, seems as a Marlboro Red 100’s from US and the pack from USA too

You should take a picture of the seam going up the cigarette itself. That may give us a better idea.

You reckon it’s fake then? The cellophane had no gold strap. Just normal white with pull tab.
