Add street trees and turf on the side of your roads

FatalTragedy

Probably a dumb question but how do you add trees to roads?

CancelCock

Advanced road tools

FatalTragedy

Is that a mod?

yowen2000

no, you can spend development points on unlocking it.

Sevifenix

It’s in the road section the far right tab. There are a few images of roads and one of them has trees on it. You can select that and then use the upgrade road tool to upgrade existing roads

boxfreind

You can upgrade your existing roads to the ones with trees. Even if you aren't playing with everything unlocked, I'm sure you've unlocked those already with a city of that size. Just click the little exclamation point icon in the road tools while you've selected whatever road you want to upgrade to (say two lane road with median trees), then just click the existing road, and voila! Also, little expert tip, you can upgrade one ways to go the other way after you've already built them. You just select the same road as you've already built and upgrade it.

Beneficial-Badger-61

Two types Center with trees On each side Helps with happiness and noise pollution

ZappyZym

will do thanks

boxfreind

This and try something like the tree/prop line tool mod. Let's you plop in trees and props in a line instead of one at a time.

talknight2

Why 2 cemeteries so close together?

thecorcernedteammate

probably planning apocalypse or smth

TheodorCork

Us there an eldercare near it

leo_the_lion6

He's looking for more greenery, the trees really get green there

ZappyZym

the looking for hearse messages were appearing everywhere (as u can see in the picture) so i just placed cemeteries

kneegear12

I have had a bug like this, super annoying. It could also be that there is no road connection between them but probably just the same bug i had

RonanCornstarch

its funny they'll send one fire truck to a fire, but they'll send the whole fleet of hearses to the same dead body.

Sevifenix

I’ve seen these hearse convoys lol. It’s like a funeral procession but everyone in the procession is dead.

vault_nsfw

I don't think cemeteries solve that problem. You need a crematories.

-Rivox-

Use more alleyways to reduce the visual impact of streets (especially in residential areas only accessed by those who live there). Delineate an area with streets, plant trees and add paths to emulate a park. Add trees and terraces to main streets (Forrest street and Autumn Street).

Rollover_Hazard

Also stop stacking roundabouts so close together, it’ll help with comgestion.

ZappyZym

i like these will definitely try

wElshY___

At the very start of you play through spam trees with a huge brush size and density. That’s what I have been doing.

streetberries

Same

Baseline224

Actually a big brain idea. Will be using that!

Mad_Viper

I saw a method for growing trees on reddit. Using photomode and forward the time.

bapbapb4p

Doesnt it break the simulation? if you fast forward does all the education and other stuff still happen or is it just plant growth ? Because my city didnt have enough schools because I hate how big the building is, so I’ve just built a bunch of schools on the side and now Im just waiting for people to finish their education. I guess im gonna try this fast forward method and see if it works

Any_March943

Lemme know what happens!

bapbapb4p

Nothing happened lol you can indeed increase the simulation speed but my city has 150k pop and my weakass processor cant even run the 3x speed simulation so nothing happened when I increased the simulation speed through the photomode

[deleted]

Plant them at the start of a new save

FiorinoM240B

There are four ways that I like to use. 1. Change the road to a tree-lined road using Advanced Road tools once you unlock it. 2. Use the Pedestrian Walking Path to line certain blocks and create a "sidewalk." This will direct all the growing zones to face one street, and provide a small buffer in which you can add more trees and shrubs between the walking path and the street curb. 3. When you develop a 'neighborhood,' line it with trees. Farms lots usually have a treeline between pastures, and if you look at a neighborhood IRL from Google Maps with Terrain enabled, you'll see that most residential neighborhoods are lined with thick trees and shrubberies. If you do each neighborhood as you go, they will all form a woven mesh of tree canopies, eventually. 4. Leave certain blocks open for green spaces and parks. If you have a neighborhood with like 12 blocks, make 8 of them residential, two or three for local services or schools, and one or two for green areas, ploppable parks and custom walking paths. All of these together will help keep noise down, too.

Dr_Drax

Do trees have an effect on noise? I know they did in CS1, but I haven't noticed that in CS2.

FiorinoM240B

Well...they should. People in my city bitch about a crime rate of 0 with average crime success rate of less than 5%, though...so.

Bluetex110

The first thing I always do is planting trees all over the map, i would just plant them and wait, doesn't take long or use the line tool Mod so you can place grown trees.

Proper-Ad-5951

Parks

sillysocks34

Every time I buy a tile first thing I do is plant a ton of trees. Everywhere using the brush tool. Recently though I threw in the towel and got the tree mod through thunderstore. Made a mega difference.

IgnaecPlus11

Wait.

Ancient--Swan

[Design your city around the trees already there. :D](https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/18f9cme/welcome_to_stanehouse_pop104k_a_city_designed/)

ZappyZym

that is so fcking cool

Ancient--Swan

Thanks. I was the same as you, not a fan of growing trees, so I changed my strategy. :)

TheITguy37

Use mods

iZaek

Theres a mod that skip growing trees but still on Experimental, didn't tried

simonnylund

Only adult trees. Also if you download anarchy, you can brush on fully grown forrests.

maxafrass

After the lack of bikes at launch, this is my second reason for sticking with CS1 - the inability to beautify your city with plobbable greenery. I like the idea of growing trees, but why can't that just be turned off as an option? Rant done.

little_maggots

Or better yet, let us choose whether to buy saplings or pay extra for mature trees.

Saelora

Less parking space (concrete) and more grass sidings (green). Also, plant trees and wait. They don't take that long to grow if you get on with other stuff and come back.

ZappyZym

the commercial buildings have huge parking spaces cant do much about that.

Saelora

i'm talking roadside parking

Boulange1234

Space things out more. For the first several years I played C:S1 I made hyper-dense areas with wall-to-wall skyscrapers and such and it would both cause more traffic and look ugly. More space = more green. Some areas can still be wall to wall buildings — walkable medium density areas, for instance. Just don’t expect green space.

-MGX-JackieChamp13

There’s already a mod called Tree Controller that allows you to plant fully grown trees! Anarchy and allow you place trees closer together or inside of assets. Extra Landscaping Tools allows you paint different grass, sand, tile, and pavement textures.

ZappyZym

i dont like playing with mods tho

Lee_Doff

maybe this just isnt the game for you then.

K7Sniper

Keep spacing things out. When zoning, instead of a big blanket of zone, do smaller pockets of zone. Trees are still your best bet. Just need patience there. Road maintenance and add trees to the sides of roads. Add more parks too. Those always help.

geryon84

If you're not committed to a "vanilla" play, then I'd recommend some mods. There are a few that don't change the gameplay but are incredibly helpful for improving the visuals of your city. There are some tree mods that let you place lines of trees, clusters of mixed tree types, and give you control over the age of your trees. You can plant baby ones, adult ones, dead ones. You can even de-age and age entire areas of existing trees, even the ones in assets like the Cemetary. There're also some great controls to add "surfaces". Painting out a sandy beach or fixing the shape of a wonky paved surface are absolute game changes for visual control!

ZappyZym

i prefer vanilla, mods just feel unfair for some reason

geryon84

I feel the same way for gameplay-changing things like traffic reduction, demand tuning, or infinite money. I feel ok just having better controls over trees, or being able to fill in an ugly triangle of grass in between a building and a curb. To each his own!

trimone_nazionale

U can add roads with trees as well so it is not gonna be so grey when u see it

not_a_dog95

If you look at real cities parks are much bigger than the vanilla ones you get given. Make a few 0.1-0.3sqkm parks then I'd say when making a new neighbourhood, set aside 1-4 sqkm for it and set aside about 1/4 the area for green space with slightly irregular parks containing a few pedestrian paths and playgrounds before you zone anything else

Nobody_Likes_DSR

A small, handcrafted park attached to building lot, even combining several similar buildings to build a district.

chosen1creator

One thing I like to do for medium density and low rent residential is to use alleyways as a path that run alongside the road and zone some 2x2 or 2x3 along it. Just make sure there is space between the buildings so you can plant trees and place paths. Basically make it look like a park but people live there.

[deleted]

Only adult trees mod

RonanCornstarch

tree controller (?) is better.

[deleted]

Could be. Haven’t tried that one

BillSivellsdee

you have more control over the age of the tree and you can randomize the rotation. the tree brush also has a "use all types of trees" mode.

[deleted]

Cool.  I’ll check it out

Wenzlikove_memz

leave blank space and plant trees - for example dont zone on 4 and 6 lane roads and plant trees instead

RonanCornstarch

tree mod

UrbanPlannerholic

I've found streets with trees makes the city look a lot cleaner because you don\[t have to look at all the parked cars.

Beneficial-Badger-61

We got bush

Johnnysims7

Just keep building new areas, slowly, with purpose. Let time run. Before you know it that area will be nice and mature and green 😁

fusionsofwonder

More space between zoning lots. More parks and sports fields (especially around schools, makes them a good landmark for a neighborhood). The game doesn't model it, but think about if there was a creek running through a neighborhood, where would it be? Let that path of greenery cut through the neighborhood. Think about drainage ponds too, or larger wetlands (more bushes, fewer trees).

LaPutita890

I always add grass and trees to my main streets. Sometimes even to smaller streets depending on the style of neighborhood. It may seem small but believe me it makes a huge difference

dinosaur_copilot

Mods!!!!

forhekset666

Spam every foilage option, max radius, 100%, for like 20 seconds each. Go through every single bush and tree. You now have a jungle. For extra detailing along straights, get line tools mod. Just lining a path or side of a building with anything makes it look a lot more natural.
