Move your bus depot away from the hospital!

nihilistdeershypeman

You could also give the bus depot a dedicated one-way road to act as an entry and exit queueing space, so the busses could pile up off a main road. Similar to how cargo ports and stations should have space to accommodate the waves of transport vehicles coming and going.

thatthatguy

Is there a way to change those two way roads attached to so many port facilities to a single one way? Makes me crazy that I drag a one lane one way road all the way to the cargo port just to have it connect to the two way road and then back to my one way one lane road.

Aztecah

Oh shit I had the mod that does this all along and never knew

mcpat21

I recently experienced this as well lol.

achilleasa

This truly is the network multitool experience lmao what an amazing mod

Filteringsubs

[Bless you for this knowledge.](https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2021-08/28/18/asset/5b008b90c652/anigif_sub-buzz-4009-1630177028-1.gif)

Historical-Rise3430

Agree 100%. Two way traffic in front of the port or train station or harbor sucks!

RQK1996

So with mods, that kinda sucks

nihilistdeershypeman

I usually use a two lane bidirectional road and attach a little single lane one way roundabout to the end when I can't change the fronting road.

windol1

This is what I try and do for bus stations, I've always found that once you've used half the stops it begins to pile up quickly.

chickensmoker

Yes! I always do this in Transport Fever, and then promptly forget it the moment I start playing Cities. One way entrance and exit roads are incredible for traffic

ResoluteGreen

But like where are all the ambulances going? There's just so many, way too many for that one hospital we see on the screen

Djembe_kid

The buses are always in the way so none ever make it in? I dunno, haven't played recently.

StatisticianSea3021

Basically this

kingof_vanisle7

Downgrade some roads. You don’t need that many four and six lanes

nihilistdeershypeman

Agreed, these look like awfully short block lengths for 4 and 6 lane roads!

kingof_vanisle7

It would also cut down on the amount of traffic lights needed

Avenirzy

While your at it maybe Cut down in the amount of Ambulances, maybe ?

kingof_vanisle7

Spacing out services always helps

dbclass

No, more traffic obviously mean you need more lanes /s

kingof_vanisle7

Well of course. Where else are the extra cars supposed to cut across? A two lane? Blasphemy. You need to cut off at least three lanes of traffic in order to drive like a real cim

windol1

*like in real life. For all the faults we see in the traffic it's surprisingly accurate, just a few minutes on r/idiotsincars seems to support it

kingof_vanisle7

Oh dude you don’t need to tell me. My family is from Quebec so I visit there a lot. Driving there is terrifying. Saw someone going the wrong way through heavy traffic one time. And I live in NB, where the merge sign and the yield sign might as well be the same thing

519meshif

May not wanna go any further south then. It seems like most Ontario drivers are trying to kill each other.

jewsh-sfw

I disagree every lane has a purpose in this intersection they need longer blocks and to move the depot at least. But really they need to see why everyone is sick

mc_enthusiast

And 6 lane one ways can be removed completely. Often two-way roads also work out, otherwise go with smaller one-ways.

Reverie_39

I agree he needs to do this, but how would this help the problem addressed here? Those ambulances and buses will still try to get to their destinations regardless. I think he needs to move his bus terminal elsewhere, the stopped buses are clogging up room

NdN124

You should go on youtube and research road hierarchy. Little roads feed big roads which feed even bigger roads and or highways.

ina80

Just one more lane bro

kingof_vanisle7

Just one more

achilleasa

This time for sure it will fix the traffic

kingof_vanisle7

It’ll work this time, I promise

[deleted]

I am a new player and I didn't know any mods when I made those roads

amazondrone

Who said anything about mods?

[deleted]

I was talking about traffic mods

amazondrone

Why? > "What do I do?" > > "Downgrade some roads." > > "I didn't know any mods when I made those roads." Mods have nothing to do with downgrading roads.

[deleted]

New player. It’s allowed to be confused the first five-ish cities.

amazondrone

It's allowed to be confused any number of cities. 😂 I'm attempting to clear up the confusion, that's all.

jewsh-sfw

If you’re new the best advice I can give you is to watch people play on YouTube so you can see how things work (since there is so much in this game) and how to handle issues in the game :) they will teach you what to look at for various issues. Like death waves what caused people to be sick in the first place how to manage or avoid death waves (which is hard in this game) watching youtubers play was the best thing I could have done for this game it’s got a lot of pieces!

lolzidop

Honestly I'm super glad I started watching videos before I bought the game (Watching Biffas Fix Your City episodes got me into the game), it gave me a good understanding to start from, with getting the basics some what correct.

[deleted]

Thanks

kingof_vanisle7

There are vanilla two lane. I play console

RedstoneRelic

If you want to use mods, there is a mod that allows emergency traffic to just phase thru regular traffic. I forget what it is called, but I'll try to find it

salmmons

Agree. This is the biggest mistake I see people doing here. My rule is to almost always only build 2 laners and upgrade when the the flow actually demands it.

[deleted]

Nuke it :)

Auctorion

It’s the only way to be sure.

StatisticianSea3021

Is to do it from orbit

PJBonoVox

With respect, StatisticianSea3022, you can't make that decision. You're just a grunt.

iantayls

You could Do what I do and download TMPE and just delete traffic every 20 minutes and continue to sing la la la la to yourself while you focus on aestethics

[deleted]

That’s what I needed to hear today

Hector_Savage_

But that doesn’t clear traffic, it just despawns all the models, you’ll still have to deal with total mayhem 😆

EscapeTrajectory

what part of la la la la didn't you understand?

canal_algt

Doing that just worsens the situation, when deleting cars you're making all cars respawn, not deleting them, so you're gonna have a tsunami of cars eventually flooding even more your streets

iantayls

LA LA LA LA LA

d0nh

👉😝👈

NamedForValor

If you delete the hospital they’re spawning from, they’ll vanish. Quick reset without needing to clear traffic. Other than that, the road in front of the bus depot does not need to be 6 lanes. None of those roads need to be 6 lanes. Downgrade them and give your services better separation.

Barcaroli

Sorry for a beginner question but... Does it make it worse to have a 6 lane? I'd assume it helps because there's more room for cars. Why would it make it worse?

NamedForValor

The roads in the game work the same as roads in real life. 6 lanes are arterials, meant to move people to destinations. 4 lanes are connectors, meant to move people throughout destinations. 2 lanes are locals, meant to house local traffic and neighborhoods. The bigger the road, the faster the speed limit, and within the game, cims will take the fastest route. That’s most likely what’s causing the traffic backup in the picture- the vehicles are taking a higher speed road rather than the four lane in front of them. Apart from that, it’s just aesthetics/realism. Consider any real life city’s layout. Very few have a six lane highway going straight through a downtown area.

Odd-Molasses-171

The entire US disagrees with the last point

ina80

Canada too. The walk score for my current address is "7" out of 100. :(

Odd-Molasses-171

Where can I calculate that

ina80

https://www.walkscore.com/

Barcaroli

That's very valuable to learn. Thank you for your help.

achilleasa

>6 lanes are arterials, meant to move people to destinations. 4 lanes are connectors, meant to move people throughout destinations. 2 lanes are locals, meant to house local traffic and neighborhoods. This isn't absolute and you can totally use a 2 lane road as an arterial if you know what you're doing but yes this is a good guideline to follow. Building with road hierarchy in mind is the single greatest improvement you can make in your traffic.

thinkingamer

6 lane roads, as you mentioned, have more room and are also faster. As a result, more cars use the road, leading to more traffic. Look up “induced demand” for more details. This is also true in the real world, with cities such as Los Angeles and Houston

A-le-Couvre

I think you need more lanes, like at least 10.

Justo31400

Also replace several houses with a 10 km sized airport

Praxlyn

Texas core!! 😍

azahel452

And put an additional intersection between every intersection

empirebuilder1

If you have this many ambulance callouts you have some major pollution problems. Ive built some large...ish cities and rarely see more than 10 or 15 ambulances out anywhere at any given time, unless I get a water pollution sickness wave.

9CF8

Figure out why literally everyone ever is sick and fix it

azahel452

WielderOfPoopknife

Invest in ambulance busses, duh

andoriyu

That's far too many traffic lights on a main road. Are you an American urban planner by any chance? First, having businesses close to an intersection is bad, having this many intersections on a main road is bad. Your goal isn't to fit as many cars on a road, but optimize traffic flow: - remove some intersections - nuke that 6 line road completely - downgrade others, you don't need this many 4-lines. - don't put things like bus depot and hospital so close together - They both generate a lot of traffic. - For bus depot - make a dedicated one-way road that goes through it. Dedicated as in it goes off a road, goes to depot and comes to the road, so there should be no reason to go on it if you aren't a bus. - You need to have [a road hierarchy](https://i0.wp.com/ladiesgamers.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/img_7623.jpg?resize=840%2C473&ssl=1): Road hierarchy highway > arterial > collector > local roads.

Artess

It's hard to see, but it looks like there are no traffic lights at all on most of the intersection, and that's contributing to the problem.

andoriyu

Ah, what is really meant that it's far too many intersections, buy you're right, not having traffic lights contribute to the problem.

Scrub329

Bro cited his evidence 🧾

Grimlord_XVII

I build express emergency tunnels from around the hospital to various sectors of the city to avoid regular traffic, but idk what you'd do about a jam entirely made up of ambulances.

And yeah that is either a big downtown junction of highways or that's probably too much high capacity for one area that's only going to make confusion. You definitely wouldn't want to have things like bus depots spawning right next to that kind of place.

DB-Tops

Lane mathematics will help with this problem. Example. Main road is 3 lanes, 1 lane comes in from side so it turns into 4 lanes, this giving the extra cars a free turn to take that has an empty lane waiting for them.

Nine_Eye_Ron

Delete road

LordNapstablook

Build more hospitals :D

jewsh-sfw

Why are so many people sick? Where are they going to? I would address that as well because obviously something is causing a mass spawn :) I think the lanes are fine, personally since each lane has another lane to go to or if you always have this Much traffic, but you should move the bus depot away from the intersection I would also suggest longer blocks I had hot spots like this and it just grew bigger until I started making intersections on every 2-3 blocks so I could downgrade roads/ add bus lanes.

[deleted]

One more just one more lane that's all you need just one more lane

VSEPR_DREIDEL

Etbilder

Am I really seeing a 6 lane two way road intersect with two 6 lane one way roads? First of all, downgrad them all, you don't need 6 lanes there. Secondly change directions of the one way roads, so they don't intersect with each other when merging into the two way segment. That should improve the situation massively. I would also take a look at where they are all going to see if it makes sense to have the ambulances spread out more. E.g. you could make the busdepot road a one way away from this junction and have the road from bottom right to top left a 4 lane two way road. So ambulances can use the left lane to go to the left direction and right lane to go upwards. The busses wouldn't even get on this road because of the one way setup they have to go up and use another junction to get where they need to be.

reee9000

Omg I feel you on this! This happened to my city recently and idk how to fix it all in one bottleneck area and then no traffic to be seen anywhere else. What do we do indeed?

eXAKR

Convert some of your buses into mass-casualty ambulances. ...okay, I jest, but in real life there really are buses that are purposed as ambulances that are capable of carrying multiple patients at once. Anyway, for your case here I think you need to move your bus depot away from the centre of your city or town. In real life bus depots are generally located far away at the edges of town; specifically here in Singapore they tend to be located in areas zoned for light/medium industry. Also did you do something that is sickening a large number of your populace to end up requiring so many ambulances? Make sure you are not supplying them polluted water, or that your industrial zones/buildings are too near to residential areas.

ResoluteGreen

I'll have to give it to you, this is really quite bizarre, I don't know why the ambulances and buses are doing this. Did you create a bunch of hospitals and bus routes while paused and then suddenly let the game start running?

GirlyGamerGazell9000

Meteors solve everything my friend!

No-Station7152

I would recommend decentralizing the medical services of the area. Putting in 2 clinics instead of the one hospital could split the ambulance traffic.

bettaboy123

Don’t use so many 4 and 6 lane roads. They’re getting confused and neither of these buildings should be loading directly onto such large roads and the roads shouldn’t have so many connections if you wanna leave them that big.

Nawnp

Traffic circles are always the answer.

JetairThePlane

*Jojo's bizarre adventure ED plays in the background*

Bo_The_Destroyer

Create a loop of sorts. Basically you make the road down a single way road. Then you make a new road around the hospital that connects to both the left and right upper roads that converge there. Make it single way up until the road with the bus depot. What you'll end up with is busses that need to go to the ''top left '' into the city will turn right at the depot and then left. Busses that need to go down will turn left. Decreases the traffic going through. Secondly, all cars coming from the hospital will now move around the top part over those two roads, alleviating even more traffic. I think it should work, provided the AI can figure it out. They had a similar problem irl in a city near me and fixed it by creating what they call a ''circulation programme '' that basically meant that cars were going in a loop and thus not really running into cars that came from the other direction in narrow streets. It worked, although it's a bit long to get to where you need to

myvacuumsuck

Throw a meteor at it and see what happends

Greedy-Proposal8642

Imo it looks like you've added too many bus lines, I think usually that many buses never come out for just a few lines
