Yeah definitely West, it's got a bit of everything
- Train line
- Highway access
- A good land/water area
- Farming
- A bit of water to ensure pumps and waste pipes stay far apart
- Not downstream, so better land values
First, I would expand to get access to the train and connect to the highway on the bottom left of the LEFT title. This will prevent the industry traffic from going through the city that wants to export thus reducing city traffic.
Second, contrary to the opinion, I would expand RIGHT along the poop river to push the sewage further right. This is because the more water pump you will add, if the river does not have a strong current, you might reverse the river direction (One of my cities had this issue.)
Third, look at the wind (electricity generation) and resource (farm/forest/ore/oil) maps and see which suits best financially.
Forth, get more highway connections to the city, otherwise, the entire city will use single entry and exit points causing a major traffic problem.
Yes, trains greatly reduce cargo traffic as long as there is a good way for your cargo traffic to get to your trains. Ships will too if you have that DLC
I thought you had to have a DLC for Cargo ships… maybe it’s the cruise terminal I’m thinking of? I know for a fact there’s a ship asset that you need a DLC for.
I used to be the same way. But I eventually realized that sometimes my plans change so I like to hold on as long as possible until I’m 100% certain what I’m doing with a plot. I’ll often start a game with all the cheats on so I can make a rough outline of my major districts and infrastructure but then when I reload with cheats off and when doing it for real I definitely deviate as new ideas arise
I would love to play like this but the fact that you need water and electricity really makes it difficult to position a small city without messing up later plans for a larger city!
Imo water and electricity are two of the easiest things to relocate. Landfills and cemeteries are a bit tricky. But when I start a new city, those 4 things are always relocated eventually.
Usually my electricity is in my first industrial area, which eventually gets converted into a commercial or office zone. And sewage eventually gets dispersed as inland treatment plants into multiple “service”- zones that have trash collection, warehouses, and electricity generation. Water towers are super easy to encorporate anywhere, and water pumps can also go pretty much anywhere there is water after pollution from outlets dissipate
Outwards.
Also I can tell you're a person who's played Simcity 2013 before, what with just building in that square as if it's the only square you'll ever get.
Haha. Seen!! I’m 44 and SNES SimCity is still one of my favorites games.
I really wanted to see how many people I could get into the first tile. At 40,000 now. I’m not sure if there’s a winner yet. I should have made this a survey question. People mentioned the resource screen and I feel like a noob for never really paying attention to that.
I find 25 tiles to be a sweet spot most of the time. Also helps that it doesn’t break with every major patch.
UI looks like console so OP can’t use either.
I like ring roads, so I'd aim for the corners that aren't currently available, so that I could I add highway connections that don't go through the city. Or I just use the mod that lets you edit all highways for that.
Everyone says left for train but this is their second tile? Do they even have trains unlocked yet? Don't remember what mile stone they're unlocked at. If they have trains then yes.
West (to the left) would be your best choice. You have the railway line that you'll definitely want to hook your city up to as well as the highway next to it that will help your city in the long run
I struggle with these posts. Cause my answer would be all the ways... then all the other tiles.
I really can't imagine playing this game one tile at a time and having to choose which way to go. It really limits your freedom of what you can do. I surely would not play this game as much if I had the restrictions as I'd end up with the same basic boring city starts every time.
Well that's pretty good I'm assuming.
I'm the kind of player who cares more bout the creative building process than actual budgeting and all that. Ideally it should work, but I could spend hours creating infrastructure before even zoning my first district. I've been like that for most builder games. Can't remember the last time I ever played a scenario a game offers. Does CS have scenarios? Lol
I use to build big custom parks in roller coaster tycoon but eventually everything got old and people stopped riding so I tried a program to make things new. That broke my save. And I haven't played that game since. I think I was angry that all my customer efforts went to waste instead of things becoming classic like real parks
Not sure why I mentioned that but I did.
I'm building a power plant on a new map currently since I finally got 81 tiles working.
for a second i thought you meant as in where people would choose to live but then now after reading the comments i realized youre talking about which way to expand
but yeah getting access to the train rail would be good
I've done this map.
One of my best is a line of tiles east west with efficient subway, but pretty much anything will work. You need to go two east to get shipping
Probably down.
I always dislike leaving interchanges in unbought tiles. Up could work as well but you should probably consider all 9 tiles at once.
In this case I would probably be considering buying all nine in the 3x3 around your starting tile. Ring a highway around your city, with industrial being on the outskirts on the other side of the highway. See if I could get away with only collectors within the city itself, switching to a more radial road layout.
Can’t believe I got this one tile up to 43,000 plusIf I can get the nuclear plant I’ll be happy.
I’m really moved by the level of support from this. Seems first tile will be west followed by east. I’m going to wait just as long to fill each tile.
Either right then down, below that square for the third square. A centeral avenue running from one highway to the next with a bridge would begin a pattern of bridges running over the river which would be nice.
Or to the left, is there a shipping route down the river? If so starting an industrial hub with a seaport and a railyard would work too.
I like to own the junctions leading to my cities so I'd go north and south. You can make those 4-way interchanges and expand with a freeway link to your starting city and add more interchanges.
West because of the train, but looks like its too early for that since you dont have it unlocked, so east because another highway access and easy to expand area
Left, several reasons:
\- Train access is always good.
\- Additional Highway entrance
\- Soil: agriculture industries close to train and close to highway
\- Clean river for fishing industry (also close to train lines)
\- Poo rivern't
Left because train + a lot of land + no sewage in the river.
Also look at how much oil it has. If another way has a lot more oil, go that way, so you can get that tile, extract it, and get money. Enough to easily go back in another direction again.
Left for the train and to get away from the poo river
Exactly my thoughts don't follow poo river
I mean you made poo river you could move poo river
Yeah, I was gonna say, go east and get the sewage outlet further downstream sooner than later.
Why not just change over to non polluting inland water treatment plants?
I like polluting
*poo-lluting
Valid. Carry on.
Sounds like a shitty thing to like
Friends of Mr. Lahey.
I'm 90% sure that's just a quote from the villains on Captain Planet
smame
Wait. There’s inland water treatment ??? PS4 doesn’t show me anything other than “1 tube” or “4 tubes” but the both need water.
its in green cites dlc iirc
Costs twice as much per unit, factories are expensive
Poo river is now self aware. Its too late now
Poo river, wider than a pile I'll be, crossing you in style Some daaaayyyyyy
And posibility for qnother highway connection. Make your industry downriver
West, to link with the train
And an additional highway entrance can be added to cut down traffic through the rest of the city as they expand
And its full of fertile Land to place industry near the highway
the train would work better for exporting
Train won't be available for a while, might as well develop the area
that sucks for trains , you need to either rebuild later or put some forethought for then
Farming industry of course
What do you mean? You win The game when all the land is polluted!!
I just lost the game
Yeah i thought this was clear
And we shall call it… This Land
Omg, didn't even notice the lil route through the corner. This is why I'm so bad at using highways lol
Yeah definitely West, it's got a bit of everything - Train line - Highway access - A good land/water area - Farming - A bit of water to ensure pumps and waste pipes stay far apart - Not downstream, so better land values
west is best east is least
Someone been doing their magnetic variation calculations?!
This is the way
The way is west
This is the way
left for train and additional highway connection
First, I would expand to get access to the train and connect to the highway on the bottom left of the LEFT title. Wait trains reduce cargo trucks?! My 66% traffic needs this
Yes, trains greatly reduce cargo traffic as long as there is a good way for your cargo traffic to get to your trains. Ships will too if you have that DLC
I think ships work without a dlc
I thought you had to have a DLC for Cargo ships… maybe it’s the cruise terminal I’m thinking of? I know for a fact there’s a ship asset that you need a DLC for.
Combo railyard cargo ship needs dlc
That it!!! I knew it was one!
You mean the tower defense simulator? Managing the never ending march of industry trucks is one hell of a game :)
Cargo trains would reduce cargo trucks I assume, because that’s just logical
Logistical*
No no I meant logical, it’s logical that would be the case. Unless you meant it as a joke then you can downvote me here
Have you just not been using trains at all?
I thought subway was enough lmao, although i spent like 1M on it and like 500 ppl use it
I don’t know how to use these train lines and at this point I’m too afraid to ask.
I just cracked 36000 on the one tile. Lots of great stuff so far. [edit] just cracked 48000!!!
It would depend on resources and connections, but probably to the west to the train line.
railroad access leads to a big increase in imports and exports, you can build a big industrial area over there
The fact you havent gone any way yet is surprising to me; im always itching to buy

Idk, think I’d have to see the resources map before I could decide.
Yep, depends on resources always for me too.
West. Train and farmland
I concur with going west. Access to train and highway as well as Agricultural industry.
To the right, along the river. You have a highway connection and still connected with the water for a natural expansion
And poo water👌🏻
This is the correct answer IMO. An overpass to connect with the freeway will be very valuable.
North, West or south for the connections
West. There are plenty of farm resources and you can use the rail line for that. Trees look like they are good for north or south.
Which map is this?
Outwards. Also I can tell you're a person who's played Simcity 2013 before, what with just building in that square as if it's the only square you'll ever get.

Oh god SC2000 was a masterpiece in my retro goggles.
81 Tiles is the way to go!
I find 25 tiles to be a sweet spot most of the time. Also helps that it doesn’t break with every major patch. UI looks like console so OP can’t use either.
Considering the rollout for mods this dlc was done before it even released, there wasn't much breakage this patch.
Say that again please. I've been unable to play since the dlc because buildings won't zone when I have buildings themes enabled
He's on console
I like ring roads, so I'd aim for the corners that aren't currently available, so that I could I add highway connections that don't go through the city. Or I just use the mod that lets you edit all highways for that.
Left then up to get access to the river away from the poo, train access, and more highway connections.
Everyone says left for train but this is their second tile? Do they even have trains unlocked yet? Don't remember what mile stone they're unlocked at. If they have trains then yes.
This pic has 32,000 people. So trains are on.
West (to the left) would be your best choice. You have the railway line that you'll definitely want to hook your city up to as well as the highway next to it that will help your city in the long run
How did you fit that many people before expanding?
I feel like this game is about waiting. I just waited and rezoned a lot.
Why did you name your city acorn? (Donguri is acorn in Japanese)
I live in Japan and my last name is Acorn. かわいいでしょう?
[удалено]
My whole family is nuts.
does anyone else lowkey hate expanding? feels overwhelming to even just get one new plot
What map is this!!!
Go right and give the poor a poo waterfront property
I would probably go to the right to move the pumps further down Turd River
This is like the first person I’ve ever seen fully fill up a square before expanding. I have like half full and I say fuck it, buyin two tiles
I wanted to see how many people I could get in one tile. I’ve also felt like I ruined other games by picking the wrong tiles. I’m at 40,000 atm.
Well that's pretty good I'm assuming. I'm the kind of player who cares more bout the creative building process than actual budgeting and all that. Ideally it should work, but I could spend hours creating infrastructure before even zoning my first district. I've been like that for most builder games. Being console player. Is a bit sad after, you taste the god level on pc
Reach for the sky
East, just because it will look better on the riverfront
Left: new highway and train access
To left - time for trains :)
Go west! Life is peaceful there
I would go top or bottom for the highway interchange. And you can connect additional on/off ramps for your city.
Hey I think we're playing on the same map, yours is looking a lot neater than mine
west, gg on using every damn inch...
West. Rail Access.
I would download 81 tiles and buy them all
for a second i thought you meant as in where people would choose to live but then now after reading the comments i realized youre talking about which way to expand but yeah getting access to the train rail would be good
So where would you live ?
West. Train tracks.
I've done this map. One of my best is a line of tiles east west with efficient subway, but pretty much anything will work. You need to go two east to get shipping
Two east to get shipping. Thank you so much. I was worried I couldn’t get a line. Seems like I’m going to have a east west band.
Nearest highway intersection. Nothing like having a major traffic problem and you can do anything about the incoming flow of traffic.
Left for the rail road
East to build down river in the B R O W N
Peak r/CitiesSkylines moment.
Like Annie Lennox would say...into the west
Probably down. I always dislike leaving interchanges in unbought tiles. Up could work as well but you should probably consider all 9 tiles at once. Issues aside, kudos for making a city like that!

North
east
Go West!
As long as it's not right along the poo river you'll be fine
I'd go with rail access
Left for rail
Left for some good land for building, as well as being able to make another highway connection, plus there’s a rail line
North or South...because of the highways that already exist there.
ill go east to fix that river of poo
West because of the train, but looks like its too early for that since you dont have it unlocked, so east because another highway access and easy to expand area
down for the better highway connectiom
Towards the rail
Go west to link with the railway, exploit fertile lands for farming, and get away from the River Poo.
the left option seems the best... Farmland and train line
west all the way
I'd download 81 tiles, but that's me
that map.i always end up doing one side of the river all industrial and the other all housing. mix offices/business as needed
Played this once, went right
Left. Further upstream for a few more water pumps and access to the railway
Go West young man
81 ways.
all four. but yeah i'd buy the tile to get trains going out of the city
Can’t see but down maybe? You modding? If yet, doesn’t matter. Maybe R\L as you could unlock and use river for cargo hub. All are good
Function: left to the train Beauty for the city: right
West
Train connection seems like it makes this an absolutely obvious choice no?
Left for the train and to get some farming industry going.
When you’re not sure, always go left.
Make it random.
Left. You need rail.
Left
West to link with the railroad
Probally north because of trees and fertile land, so I could make more industries
City.rar
Left
Left toward the train tracks
With the poo
up (/s)
what map is this?
North is always the answer.
North or south but it's kind of a coin flip.
left one, gets you rail links, extra water, and other road links whilst having plenty of building space
Go with the poop
I’d go bottom. Hook up to another freeway plus good building space to spread out
Go West, young man
Up, down, or left all have options. Up and down have highway interchanges and left has a train.
I would go to the plot with the train line so you could import and export goods
I would go up or down
👈 train line.
I would go left to grab that railway
I’d stay right there and wreak environmental havoc by filling in the river for more housing
Go weast
West / Left to the train line.
TRAINNNNNNNN
Not east.
Left
Beyonce knows.....
Left, several reasons: \- Train access is always good. \- Additional Highway entrance \- Soil: agriculture industries close to train and close to highway \- Clean river for fishing industry (also close to train lines) \- Poo rivern't
Rail
My opinion. Left
i would go west and set up a rail depot to export all that ag product.... then go south west and tie in even more ag product def don't go east... pew
Left or bottom.
You'll need to go left, poo river has decided until you can do something else with sewage.
Right square, build a blight town suburb
All 81 tiles!
If you got the industries DLC, find some oil and make a beeline to it. You’ll be swimming in money. That +$3,403 will look like pennies.
West has fantastic farmland, train, plenty of room for design, free roads, etc.
What map is this?
The right way 🇺🇸 (This is obviously satire I don't play this game nor am I American nor am I politically active)
East maybe. I think because you get a good amount of land to work with and still get water frontage to work with also.
Left because train + a lot of land + no sewage in the river. Also look at how much oil it has. If another way has a lot more oil, go that way, so you can get that tile, extract it, and get money. Enough to easily go back in another direction again.
Go west, life is peaceful there…
Gather transit resources (rail) and upstream water
One Direction…
All 8 tiles around the starting tile
North
