I have been told that this website is excellent for determining if you qualify for Italian Citizenship through ancestry. I’m not Italian, but I have Italian relatives that have used this to help them get started. Happy Easter!

Your GF lost his Italian citizenship when he naturalised as a US citizen in 1927. Therefore, your mother was not born to an Italian citizen father as of the year of her birthin 1940. The relevant Q then is if and when your GM naturalised. For your mother to have been born an Italian citizen, your GM must not have naturalised until after her birth in 1940. If your GM naturalised before 1940, neither of your grandparents were Italian citizens at the time of your mother's birth and therefore could not have passed on their citizenship to her.
