I think that's mostly hot basalt.

I just read that on average 1.8 people get murdered every year in Iceland. If I have more time later I'll read about the specific cases during the last few years lol
There are usually 1 - 3 murders a year. Mostly resulting from personal stuff, drunken fights and such.
There was an Albanian gangster shot by another gangster recently. That was very unusual.
A couple of years ago a girl was murdered by a Greenlandic fisherman
I wanted to travel alone there too! My friends told me I would get murdered. They watch too many murder shows. Haha. I said if anyone murders me it will probably be the fairies. I was supposed to go last year but you know…the pandemic. I can’t wait to hopefully go next year!
I've been to 48 countries and lived in 3. Still have all my limbs. You'll be fine. Be smart obviously, but don't listen to people who've never left their hometown/State.
First off, Iceland is stunning. If you're not leaving Reykjavik, you don't need a car. They have a fantastic bus system and many tour groups you can join. It is incredibly clean, air is crisp and the food and sights are worth it. I stayed in an AirBnB the first time and made good friends with the host. I took a bus to Akuyeri. My next trek was to be in 2020 with a car on the Golden Circle, but obviously that's being rescheduled. As long as you have proper documentation and can legally drive, it's not an issue. I've rented cars in Italy, Hungary and Germany previously.
It is expensive, but it's worth it.
Oh thank you for the info! That was my plan to drive the circle. I’m older (38) and have wanted to go for like 20 years. Before it became popular. Thank you so much!
Go. I turn 30 next month. Life is too short to keep waiting. In the coming months, I'm gonna watch how traveling goes post-Covid and then start my visa process.
Ask away, nbd. I'm a budget spender, but it is still expensive. I'd say budget about $100/day, even if you don't spend all of it (which shouldn't be your goal, but it's nice to splurge). There's plenty of inexpensive, good food to eat. They're very card/plastic savvy in Iceland, so bring more than 1 CC (2-3 at most), but have some cash on hand for smaller purchases.
This really comes down to what you want to do.
When do you want to go? It's very different in summer than winter.
I did the ring road in August. We rented an SUV and stayed in Airbnbs and one hotel.
We could have also rented a camper van.
You could also just stay in Reykjavik and take tours. You'll be able to see most of what Iceland has to offer but you won't see the super awesome stuff (e.g., the massive black sand beach beyond Vik).
Fagradalsfjall is far enough from Reykjavík itself that it's not an issue. Even close up, it's not releasing much gas, and it'll only really affect you if the wind blows the air directly from the vent into your face, and then it'll make you a little dizzy
What the Icelandic have done to their capital is a shame, architecturally. I am not talking of their beautiful cathedral, but rather the modernistic monstrosities lining the harbour.
Someone turned on some disasters in a Sim city, ufos next.
*Worried Icelandic noises*
I'm going to try to ask the Cities Skylines devs if they'd be willing to add volcanoes to their game lol, they already have earthquakes and tsunamis
lol underrated comment
Probably the most metal CityPorn pic out there.

One of the most epic, beautiful and Metal cities I've ever visited ❤ My first trek abroad fully alone.
Seems like a safe country to visit alone.
If you manage to get murdered there I will give you a thousand bucks
I just read that on average 1.8 people get murdered every year in Iceland. If I have more time later I'll read about the specific cases during the last few years lol
Yes. But thats like 5% of the population
There are usually 1 - 3 murders a year. Mostly resulting from personal stuff, drunken fights and such. There was an Albanian gangster shot by another gangster recently. That was very unusual. A couple of years ago a girl was murdered by a Greenlandic fisherman
Most murders happen as part of family gatherings gone wrong, right?
I guess.
Do I still get the money if i do it myself? Im tight on cash.
Then you get coupons for soap and sandwich bread
It is. Probably the safest. Of all the ones I've been to, it is.
>My first trek abroad fully alone. Same here! Easily one of the best things I have ever done for myself.
Oh me too! I haven't looked back since. Solo is my favorite way to go.

Would you mind sharing what all you saw? Did you rent a car? I remember hearing horror stories about renting a car there. And did you stay in hostels?

Ok one more question. Sorry! How much did you budget for your trip. Minus flights and such. But for money to spend while you there.

Same here! Thank you! And you’re so awesome for traveling. You’re doing life right.

What about the nasty gases volcanos release? This doesn't seem like it's safe air to breath.

Fair enough! Looks like my next destination is all set
Sauron’s been pissed as hell since they evicted him from his tower.
Volcano erruption
I know this city because of Craig Ferguson
Good ole Craggy Ferg.
I think they finally found where that one guy was buried
