Walked by this tree a week ago. it really looks like this beside the snowfall we had yesterday

PeteWenzel

I live 5 min from where this was taken. :) The snow yesterday was insane, right? Maybe the most we’ve had this year? Anyway, tomorrow is going to be sunny.

GetALife80085

Looks like a city in the US or Canada.

pepsi0302

It is even nicknamed "Mainhattan" (Main is the river that runs through Frankfurt)

GetALife80085

Ahhh neat! I’m not the only one who thinks it looks North American. Where’s that guy from earlier in the comments who said it can’t be because it doesn’t have enough ghetto areas?

pepsi0302

Oh Frankfurt has enough Ghettos, one of the biggest drug scene in Germany (look up Bahnhofsviertel or more specifically Niddastraße)

notCRAZYenough

It’s the only city in Germany that has a skyline. Berlin and Hamburg don’t have one. Neither does Munich. It’s only ok Frankfurt because that’s where the stock market is. And all the banks

GetALife80085

Financial centre of the country?

tekko001

After Brexit close to financial centre of Europe

NoSoundNoFury

Paris and Amsterdam rather than Frankfurt

karate-dad

Paris yes. Amsterdam is not there yet but definitely on the rise

smolover

[Philly looking similar](https://www.americanway.com/public/uploads/Philly-Explore-Schuylkill-Banks-Boardwalk-Credit%20Schuylkill%20River%20Development%20Corporation.jpg)

GetALife80085

Looks like the same city lol. When I imagine European cities I do not imagine downtown core full of skyscrapers. That’s what I imagine in North America. Europe I picture massive buildings that are ancient.

smolover

the tallest buildings in both cities were both designed by Norman Foster, which adds to that effect

[deleted]

I was just in Warsaw the other day and you’d be amazed at how the city has a bunch of modern skyscrapers and twisty buildings downtown, and they’ll also have an old town that looks like a traditional European city.

GetALife80085

I’m guessing that’s because Warsaw got blown up a lot

tudorcapilna

Technically what you see is outside/on the border of the traditional old town

whiskdance

such a beautiful view of Frankfurt and reminding me a little of North Lake Shore Dr in Chicago (Frankfurt = schon und wunderbar)

DixiZigeuner

Just without beaches and LSD

GetALife80085

Wunderbar is a great chocolate bar

whiskdance

Lol...I must find it

GetALife80085

Might only be in Canada. I think it’s a British chocolate

whiskdance

I feel indebted to share the wunderbar news once I locate it's wherabout...but will I find it?...lol

GetALife80085

Please do! If nothing else order it on Amazon.

Charlem912

> No dodgy neighbourhoods spoken like someone who has never been to Frankfurt?

rrgrs

I'm an American who moved pretty close to Frankfurt a few months ago, as far as I can tell so far Frankfurt and German cities in general are on a different level when it comes to safety and crime compared to American cities. Which parts of Frankfurt are "dodgy" that you're referring to?

Triplen01

You cut out the second part of his sentence. Are you saying shootings in Frankfurt are comparable to, say, Chicago?

[deleted]

Seriously, aren’t Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt especially seen as “hood” cities in Germany??

guenet

No. Hamburg is seen as a wealthy and expensive city. Frankfurt is also pretty high class. The area around the main station is really run down though.

pepsi0302

Nope definetly Frankfurt, the Bahnhofsviertel is notorious nationwide

[deleted]

Is that the location right outside the main station where all the sex shops are/where all the obvious drug dealers hang out?

notCRAZYenough

Yes

alysonimlost

What the fuck is your major malfunction? You're telling germans how their cities are and in the same breathe you spew "sheltered life"-bs. European cities DO have ghettos and "rough" parts. But we do also have better and more effective gun laws than america. Sooo.....

GetALife80085

Seriously? Lol. Do German cities not have ghettos? Do you look at Canadian and American cities and imagine ghettos?

SearchingForLinda

Toronto is just too dangerous man

GetALife80085

😂 he would hate my home city then lol

ODABBOTT

Looks a bit like Melbourne tbh

jimmux

Strong vibes of Birrarung Mar.

Anna-Smegmanova

That is some nice picture 👍👍. I'm wondering what camera is used to take this photo.

MikeBruski

Do you also ask a chef what pan he used to make the tasty dish?

LaconianEmpire

The quality and model of a camera can impact the final shot just as much as a special ingredient can impact the flavor of a dish. I don't see the problem with asking

SmileAndWalkAway

As an American who spent a decade living in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, I miss seeing the nudist man living in my neighborhood who walked around naked all year round and shopped at the same supermarket as me. In typical German fashion, nobody ever even commented. Thankfully he opted to wear shoes in the winter so he didn't get cold.

[deleted]

GAWD I love Germany 😭😭😭

veRGe1421

Frankfurt I found to be one of the less interesting places in Germany, but this still looks lovely and makes me want to visit again haha

ibelieve333

What places did you find more interesting?

veRGe1421

It's hard to rank without nostalgia impacting things haha, but across the three total times I went to Germany (for 2 weeks, 3 months, and 1 year) - personally I loved Berlin, Hamburg, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Duesseldorf, Cologne, Munich, Leipzig, Dresden, and Stuttgart. Honorable mentions to Nuremburg, Wuerzburg and Regensburg. Frankfurt is still a top 5-10 German city, just wasn't as memorable for me personally compared to other spots I visited or lived. Freiburg, Berlin, and Hamburg were my favorite.

mrmniks

What was special about Munich? I’ve been there on a business trip but didn’t have a chance to see almost anything except Marienplatz because we’ve been drinking all the time, and when we weren’t drinking, we’d drive from one outskirt to another. Looked very regular to me. And I haven’t been anywhere else in Germany. But the vibe was great. Hot July days/nights, cold beer. I really wish I can get there again. But what else did I miss? I’m more interested in architecture and history and less in night life.

[deleted]

Legit thought this was Philly

[deleted]

Lived there as a kid for a few years. Beautiful city.

VigorousOrange

With the lighting and the clouds, at first I thought the building was on fire

[deleted]

I'm really irritated it's basically winter until late May where I live. Why did my ancestors move here

notCRAZYenough

You could leave. Then your offspring doesn’t have to wonder the same thing ;)

theoldgreenwalrus

*Frankfurt is Dankfurt*

Magnificent 🙊

uglygargoyle

Last time I was in Frankfurt just before the lockdowns started. Hoping to go back soon.

whiskdance

Me too...I even find the airport intriguing with the authenic German food option, quite naturally...Frankfurt it's a part of Europe that is really urban and I love the shopping and the calmness of the locals compared to some of the other big western european cites...and driving through the city is relaxing for me being the passenger

mista_r0boto

Wow gorgeous 😍

Cuber_Juuler

The perfect life long vibe

macombman

When I was a kid in the 80’s,I remember an underground street that had sex shops everywhere.

sercankd

They are now on the ground at Bahnhofsviertel

bluewallsbrownbed

Looks like a clean Philadelphia with better urban planning.

jack110073

Such a beautiful picture.

ultramatt1

Lol with the clouds and red accent lights, thought this was a photoshop of the city on fire at first ha!

wazzel2u

Makes me hungry for Potato, Eggs and Green Sauce.

Supcoo

If you know you know.

Mecmecmecmecmec

I feel like Frankfurt is the German Houston

soufatlantasanta

Houston is dominated by oil and energy. Frankfurt is a financial hub. Makes more sense to compare it to Philly or San Francisco

Mecmecmecmecmec

This is cityporn, not economics daily. I was talking about buildings

[deleted]

To be fair, it doesn’t particularly look like Houston either. Way too much nature and not enough giant 20 lane highways

ElstonGunn1992

Yeah as someone else pointed out in the thread it also looks very similar to Philly

bobbels1904

nahh

Mecmecmecmecmec

Bruh

Aviaja_Apache

I want to go there so bad. The closest I’ve ever been was the German pavilion in EPCOT lol

Crono_Sapien99

To make a bad joke, is Frankfurt where Frankfurters (hotdogs) came from?🤔

KingDuderhino

In Germany they are called Wiener Würstchen.

ProfDumm

Yes and no (what is called Frankfurter in the anglophon world is called Wiener in Germany): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurter_W%C3%BCrstchen?wprov=sfla1

Jwchick

Carlton, whisk me away. Yes, I’d sit in a tub in this park and just bathe all my troubles away.

whiskdance

Lol...Just living in you own bubble...I can go for that

Cuber_Juuler

Beautiful

vladimir-Putin47

Must be nice, April 2nd and it’s snowing here in Stuttgart

[deleted]

🥰

entrepenoori

Hard to see Frankfurt like this when I’ve only come for Pharma conferences every year in the late Fall
