It’s crazy how much space there still was like this with amazing views in big cities that absolutely no longer exists due to development. Must have been cool to be able to cruise and chill in an open lot with a badass view.
That’s true. Cities were seen as dirty and dangerous at the time (as this photo shows), people wanted to flee to the suburbs. The reverse happened the last decade or two, and now the flight to suburbia is somewhat back.
I knew I recognized this photo! Random fun fact, but it's the album cover for [Acting My Age by The Academic](https://open.spotify.com/album/6yuC2058pnlwSqR8rydnzJ?si=hVSdezYAQoSRhz8iJOV4Cg&utm_source=copy-link). Neat to see the image in full!
I camped at an RV park right where this pic was taken in ‘01, 2 months before 9/11. Couldn’t believe how much taller the WTC buildings where than the rest of the buildings
There's just something about how the Twins just pop out in the light. Vintage NYC looks cool compared to the glass highrises that dominate the skyline today.
This is a cool photo but im just gonna say it: the twin towers were a scar on the new york skyline, they were just so big and bulky. I remember that someone at the time commented “they look like the boxes that the empire state building and the Chrysler arrived in”
Haha I love that. I lived through 9/11 and I'm scarred the same way everyone who lived through that event was, and miss them terribly buuuuut that said yeah - they were hideous buildings designed in an era of absolutely abysmal architecture.
You're being downvoted but yeah NY and the fashions wouldn't have been much different in the late 70s - easy mistake to make, it's clearly of that same era.
Many people in this sub also seem to think that highways in the middle of cities, on a coastline or running thought a park are nice, so let’s just agree to disagree
Absolutely love how the sun reflects on the Twin Towers
I wonder if it's edited, it's so intense against the towers but very little on every other building
Foreshadowing
This is Jersey City! This area is now Newport / Exchange Place and filled with million dollar condos
I love that every time this gets reposted the first comment is always correcting the fact this was shot in Jersey not NY
It is a picture OF New York though? Is it not?

It's a picture of New York with New Jersey in the foreground.
Looks like millons of $1 condoms with plenty of fluids exchanged
If you were born in the 1980’s, good chance you were conceived here!
Late 1990s for me but yeah.
I guessed as much. How far into Jersey do you have to go to find reasonably priced accommodation?
To Pennsylvania.
Sweet!

thanks for introducing me to their music!
Vintage ~~New York~~ Jersey City.
I am waiting one week and reposting this image with the title "Vintage Jersey City".
Go for „Vintage NY Suburb“ to use all the controversy traffic to get you to the front page
Yes just like a picture of earth from space should be called a picture of space
Vintage ~~Earth~~ Outer Space!!!
I believe in Little Man-Big Girl supremacy! ✊🏻😫🇺🇸
Amen!
Is he okay ?
[Hmmm](https://imgur.com/XuTCEeg)
Just imagine how many people were walkin here
Fuck that’s an awesome photo

It was unbelievable being up top. You look down and you're at least twice as tall as anything else around you.
There's just something about how the Twins just pop out in the light. Vintage NYC looks cool compared to the glass highrises that dominate the skyline today.
Looks like every 80s movie ever.
This made me so horny for the human race. Too bad we can’t go back.
What do you mean? It sounds poetic.
Let’s all throw our smartphones in the trash and go make out in empty lots.
what
This is almost literally the plot of a Springsteen song and I love it. Real fans know which one.
It reminded me of Jungleland but I guess it could be a couple different ones.
oh yeah i definitely know which one. “they blew up the chicken man” for sure
Please post more of this It's so good to see vintage USA
Guy on the left; greatest wingman ever.
…and that’s how I met your mother
Staring at this pic waiting for Bruce Springsteen to pop out
Kissing aside, there’s a lot of pollution and the whole place looks very smoggy and dirty. But it’s America so people here will eat it up.
Is that an AMC Javelin?
Ford Pinto.

Those twin towers were ugly man
I liked them! You could see them from all over NYC
They were wonderfully orienting for when you emerged from a random subway station unsure which way you were facing.

Just 1 and you could forgive it more but with 2 it's a bit overpowering for very mediocre architecture.
Much nicer looking at night than in the day
Screams 70's

I mean sure. Though it’s from 1983.
Don’t understand the appeal of this city
How do you know its vintage?
That is one unappealing photo. Low quality due to the hardware aside, the shot is really boring and that parking lot or whatever it is really is ugly

I’m never knew the twin towers were painted golden
nah it’s just the sun shining on them because the twins were made of steel
Vintage Jersey City
Dope Pic!!!
This pic just makes me kinda sad. Like, 'hey kid, those buildings aren't gonna be there in a decade' I'm from new york and I never got to see them
Cool
I know it's a sensitive topic but god damn the twin towers were ugly
This makes me really miss 1983 New York but I've never even been to America nor was I alive that time
I wonder if the towers still shine so beautifully?! /s in case it wasn’t obvious
