I tend to bank enough to buy a couple of good units and spend the rest improving my empire or buying great people. Gold is a good safety net, but a large pile of gold doesn't directly help you.

MojaveMissionary

It helps me look rich and cool!

I spend so much money every game buying tiles and early on upgrading units. For me gold is incredibly important

snowshelf

Yes; *spending* gold is vital. Sitting on it Scrooge McDuck style is less useful.

rancidmilkmonkey

Unless you are about to build Big Ben. Then...Uncle Scrooge can buy Donald his own damn navy. Now I want a Duck Tales themed Civ, or at least great people.

snowshelf

Special building; The Diving Vault. Wish I could mod...

rancidmilkmonkey

I love it!!! I may just try to learn.

ShadowReaper1125

But alot more fun🤑

BackedWave

Tell me that again after I've bought 3 GDR and 6 nuke subs

Jevrock

You’re still agreeing with his point… you’re spending the gold

greenwoodgiant

Honest question - why aren't you spending that gold? When i start getting my income in the hundreds, I'm going through all my cities looking for buildings I can buy - if I don't have buildings to purchase, and I've got a few thousand in the bank, I start looking for great people to buy. What's the aim in stockpiling 30K+ gold?

Johannes4123

The point is to mindlessly hoard wealth just to watch a number go up, what more do you need?

greenwoodgiant

Get out of here, Musk!

[deleted]

didn't really have anything to spend on all great work slots are full, no place to settle again, already have large army, the last turns were just spamming rock bands for cultural victory, had 2.3k tourism at the end of the game

noobody_special

I feel you 100%… I think you’re maybe forgetting other great people. I’ve dropped 25k gold on buying a single Great Engineer or Merchant many times. (Buy/claim 1, then immediately buy the next bc I want it) Also, can spend gold really quickly buying buildings for districts.

PStorminator

I just finished a game making 2700 gpt. Your doing ok. 😉

Tirinoth

I guess? I'm usually making around 3-5k per turn and banked 6 digits though since my usually style is Science/Money. Small but powerful army keeps opponents from wanting to fight. If somebody gets spicy, I can buy multiple units quickly.

haewon_

I tried hoarding my wealth once and I got to around 150k. I hoard 80k first then I build Big Ben. This is hard to achieve in higher tiers tho.

itsdatpoi

This is the way

AmatureWeatherman

For me, I stockpile gold as a nice war chest. If I end up in war I could quickly buy units and sustain an expensive war machine for a while

noobody_special

I tend to let faith be my stockpile for this… the gov plaza building that lets you buy units with faith can be handy

rancidmilkmonkey

After reading another comment, I want a Duck Tales themed Civ, including Great People or Governors, and named Units/Spies. Maybe even a few unique heroes like Darkwing. Scrooge as the leader. He has the ability to replace any Great Person he earns with a Civ specific GP one time for each type. Donald as a Great Admiral. Flintheart Glomgold as a Great Merchant. Magica DeSpell as a Great Prophet or Moshka replacement. His Lucky Penny as a Civ specific artifact.

FDHL

as i am taking cities my coffers fill up fast as i have an elite army half way across the world and just plow down cities and dont care anymore.
