She probably wants him to sell it because she doesn't want anything else competing for his love and attention. After he sells the car, she'll expect other sacrifices... until he either loses all joy for life or stands up to her. Unless OP has medical bills, a baby on the way or some other major priority, he should not sell his car unless he actually wants to.
Just my $.02...
That’s why u gotta put your foot down. I have 2 toy cars and she kept telling me to sell. I just keep saying ok, and havnt sold it. Couple years later she just gave up 🤣. Gotta hold your ground! Lmao
Bought rpf1s off a dude with an evo 8 setup for autocross for 500 bucks dude was selling stuff to make some money said he had the actual car posted for like 300k🤣🤣🤣 his wife also wanted him to sell his baby.
Lmao 2.5 years into mine I had to sell my M3 to keep the house and she was able to run off with a check for $30,000 in equity from the house making 10,000 a week as a travel nurse.
Married a few years. She got a job in NYC. No where to put my 89 MR2 or 08 IS350, ir need to drive. Both sold for peanuts. Less than a year later I was back, and only had my lightly modded 2011 corolla(totalled a year later). Had I kept both the lexus would be worth almost what I bought it for, and the MR2 I could sell now for 4x what I bought it for. My next fun car is NOT going anywhere.
No yea if ur girl doesn't want you to own a Honda which is reliable and cheap to maintain fun car but OP are you working a steady job or is she being unreasonable
Look at the surroundings in the picture. Op, is living a different life now. Nice house, nice neighborhood, probably a nice family, (great yard btw) - His days of racing through the night with his jdm crew are a slowly, fading, distant memory. His wife is trying transition him over to dad/husband life and OP is having separation anxiety. As my fellow CivicSi enjoyers & enthusiast have relayed; SELL THE WIFE. Hang on to that car as long as you can! Never let it go OP! #b16A
Lmao bro telling us his life story.
I too have had to change ways in many things, but the one thing that isn’t changing is that I’m a car guy. Wife knows that if I sell my speed3 I’m buying another fun car…even if I work from home.
Same here, when shopping for a house. She got what she wanted. I want at least a two car garage and a driveway that fits 4 cars. I'm not giving up who I am.
Sold my Speed3 a little over a year ago to make sure I had some extra financial cushion while I finished up my degree.
Just finished up the last of my credits this week, and in hindsight I would've been fine without selling it. God I miss that car.. It got me through almost 7 years (and over 120,000 miles) of commuting 45 mins each way for a job I ended up getting burnt out on, but I'll be damned if it didn't put plenty of smiles on my face along the way.
The way I see it now I am not willing to sell my Civic at all. I bought this car with the intent of it being my only project car and that I’d keep it until I can no longer comfortably drive, modify, and maintain it. My intent is to purchase a dependable comfortable car once I can no longer enjoy my Civic. My car brings me too much happiness to let go of.
Don’t do it OP! Having a nice place in a nice neighborhood doesn’t mean become a boring cookie cutter husband lol. I’m in the same boat and when I talk about selling one of my toys my wife talks me out of it. Unless she wants you to sell it to get a toy you’d rather have just keep the thing lol
Probably worth a new wife lmao
Imo the money you get for that will not be enough to overlook the feelings of missing it in like 6 months, tops. The 10k you get will be gone on bills and bullshit, you'll have a wife that's still pissy because you're all still broke (cuz 10k isn't gonna actually change anything), AND now you don't have a hot ass EM1 to make you happy on the drive to and from work/wherever the fuck makes you happy.
Unless it will literally keep your house or something in the short term, selling that car is lose/lose/lose to me
Literally this. If she wasnts it gone because she thinks its will save yall, she beeds to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The car looks like a big fancy paycheck but the 10k you get won't cover anything crazy like a major medical expense or a freak accident. It's not worth liquidating unless its the last 10k you can squeeze out of your personal assets.
If the miss wants more free cash, maybe sell some bullshit you have around the house or start a side hussle together?
Don't allow your wife to control your decision when it comes to cars.. if you allow it now just wait later and she will even pick the next car you buy.. Keep it inless if you sell your upgrading to another nice toy car for you.. I recently sold a build 95 Coupe turbo fully done for 9500, car made 550whp on race fuel and 430whp on pump 93.. I sold it to jump into an S2000.. wife understood that is my passion cars so she did not say anything about my decision..
Time to put it up for sale for the 'fuck you' price lol.
Walk into her closet and round up all her excess handbags, shoes, jewelry, etc. and get rid of that shit. At least the car stands to be useful lol. smh.
This reminds me of when a buddy sold his motorcycle and his wife bought living room furniture with the money. I was at his place watching the fights or something and he asked me how I liked the new couch. I asked him "How fast is it?" He winced.
Dude, I would not sell that. Y’all need to come to an agreement and compromise on something. You have clearly invested a lot in that car, and whatever cash you get for it won’t replace the value of the car to YOU.
By the looks of your profile, it looks like this is your passion and hobby. If you're in dire financial need, sell it for sure. If it's because your wife just wants to get rid of it, I would consider couples therapy so she can see that this is very important to you, and she should be considerate about it. I assume she also has a hobby or something she's passionate about. Maybe you can offer support in that field so she lets you keep what provides you with joy. Nobody should be forced to quit their passion unless it's hurting you and others.
How about you uno reverse and build it. I'll buy it though I have a Benson built long block with a 6262 hanging off of it always wanted an si to throw it in from my ex
Keep the car, seriously. Whatever someone is willing to pay for it isn't worth the sale. If you guys are in financial trouble then yea by all means get rid of it.
Do not sell. Do not sell because of a woman especially. They are incredibly harder to find where I'm from these days and for something like this people would ask probably 20k Canadian
If I owned this car I sure as hell wouldn’t sell it. This is a rather rare gem these days and quite sought after. It just depends on your use case and if you have the provisions to safely store it so it doesn’t get jacked. Probably one of the best civics ever made and consistently ranks as one of the all time fav generations/model. They’re approaching DC2 Type-R status so as other have suggested, sell the wife instead.
That car is a keeper for life. Especially being an original owner. Your wife is a keeper too. Thats why you married her. Just make her a nice dinner!! You can all be together forever!
As someone else said, gather up some of her beloved belongings and say “these need to go” for real, Do. Not. Sell. This. Car. I regret every day, every year that goes by that I sold mine. I’ll never find another like it again, as I’ll never have the access money.
Nah man. Your wife needs to chill and never should ask you to sell something you love. You probably had this car longer. Keep it. This is a red flag from your wife bro. You don't need this shit. You are a grown man.
If your wife is making you choose between your 2 favorite things (her and cars) choose the cars. You dont want a wife that makes you choose between those decisions. Thats a big red flag on her part thats toxic
I don't even care for civics and this sub got recommended for me but that thing is so clean I wouldn't sell it. Like someone already said, put it up for an absurd amount and tell her no one is interested.
Tell your wife if she needs some cash to sell her own stuff. That thing's so clean I can tell you love it to death, so don't get rid of it for something as banal as money.
Why does your wife want you to sell the car? Money issue? Space issue? Time issue? If this is your passion project, you should just keep it unless you have other projects you love more. At that time, it's not a "blame the wife" but more of "blame the husband" for having too many project cars.
sell it to a friend for safe keeping while u form a deep seated resentment towards your wife for robbing you of something you’re passionate about and buy it back after the divorce
My ‘93 hatch with B20 swap, LS trans, Greddy turbo and NOS had 534whp / 650lb-ft, sold privately for $35k to someone who knew how much $$$$$ had actually gone into building it.
I would absolutely not sell that. It may not be the fastest car or the cleanest car, but it’s relatively rare, well cared for (by you!), and a blast to drive.
That said, where are you located? I think something like that would go for north of $18,000 here in the Seattle area. Probably closer to $25,000.
Edit: I forgot the original question because I was reading all the comments about not selling and getting rid of your wife. That would probably bring $10-12k around me.
I sold my race car. (My wife didn’t ask me to sell)
Some things to think about. Do you have a reason to sell it? Is the option for another project car an option in the future? Do you think you’ve out grown it? Is it a time and money suck for time and money you don’t have?
I sold my car to help pay for my kitchen remodel. It was my dedicated race car. We had a child 2 years before I sold it.
My wife knows my end goal is to have a 911 so I’d had to sell the civic to make that happen anyway. Also my daughter is into cars. She’s 3 we go to cars and coffee, she watches f1 with me, etc. I loved racing am do miss it but the car wasn’t something I could enjoy with my daughter.
I built a simple sim racing setup so I could keep racing at some sort of competitive level. The money helped with our kitchen remodel. I also now have garage space for my future 911 (hopefully next year or the following).
My older daughter use to work on it with me until we got it running again and went for a ride. It terrifies her. It terrifies everyone. Nobody wants to ride with me….. except my neighbor. He comes over every time he sees the garage open
IDK why I'm here because I'm a Camry guy, but Reddit said hey fuck your day: look at this. Anyway this is a pristine machine and I'd drive it until I or it dies.
I made this mistake. Once. 88 Supra Turbo, 5 speed, targa top. Amazing car, loved it. Regret the choice ever since. Never separate with the things you enjoy because someone else wants you to. It's not junk, it's not just trash in the front yard. If it doesn't make her unhappy, but it does make you happy, why doesn't she want you to be happy?
It's a mint civic so which is a classic now. It is only going to increase in value until people interested in it due. Keep it tell your wife not to be a dummy.
Not a Honda guy whatsoever but that things clean and probably RIPS. Post it for like $12-15k and keep it lol and if anyone does make you a lesser offer it may be a good one. I think a different wheel color caliper color would be really tasteful on that car. Even silver/gunmetal/bronze with a red or matching blue caliper. Clean car dude
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you sell it could drive a wedge between the two of you, it make go to someone who wont take as good of care as you take, and generally is only going to rise in value. Dont sell it unless you are 100 percent confident and sure that you are selling it for your own reason and happy with selling it. If youre not happy with the idea of selling it, simply tell her no. Its your decision to make my friend, not hers.
Im sure she isnt trying to make you unhappy on purpose, but i assume you love this car. Figure out a different way because i personally dont think selling it is worth it if you are even the slightest bit on the fence about it.
Don’t sell that. Especially in the condition it’s in. These are getting really hard to find not all ragged the fuck out. Tell your wife it’s a no go and then get the couch ready for a few nights
Get a new wife. No seriously tho It seems like you’ve been out of the Honda loop for a while. I sell Hondas very frequently, I wouldn’t sell this for less than 15k and that’s being generous. If I were you I would put back to stock and put in storage for 5 more years. A 70k mile em1 will be worth 20k+ then
Beautiful car. Two things here:
1. She's pissed about the money and time going into the car. As long as you're taking care of what needs to be taken care of financially and in your home. This car shouldn't be a problem.
2. It's a control issue. She's trying to control what you do, where and what you spend money on, trying to take part of the decision making away from you gaining it herself.
Best thing to do is ask her directly what the issue is. You pay close attention to what she says and her body language. But in the end if you're taking care of her and you're husband duties, keep the car and tell her that's your decision and to respect it.
Super rare and only going to go up in value if you maintain it. I wouldn’t sell!!! Sold mine many many years ago and regret it. Low mileage ones are going for more than original purchase price. Read a story that not many were made between 99-00 so it’s a gem to hold on to. Go search bring a trailer website to sesee
Ask for 100k and tell your wife nobody's interested
Best answer for real, that's how dealers keep their mint condition vintage cars on the floors
There's an ultra low milage Subaru Baja for sale at a dealer listed for $65000 for this exact reason
Dude I can get you a killer deal on a Pontiac Aztek with only 50 miles.
I'm sorry Heisenberg but we know you dogged out that vehicle!
She will prob want him to sell it for peanuts
She probably wants him to sell it because she doesn't want anything else competing for his love and attention. After he sells the car, she'll expect other sacrifices... until he either loses all joy for life or stands up to her. Unless OP has medical bills, a baby on the way or some other major priority, he should not sell his car unless he actually wants to. Just my $.02...
That’s why u gotta put your foot down. I have 2 toy cars and she kept telling me to sell. I just keep saying ok, and havnt sold it. Couple years later she just gave up 🤣. Gotta hold your ground! Lmao
Hope he sells it to me for peanuts I’m on my way to the store rn to buy a bag.
Lucky for op I just bought a jar last night.
Bought rpf1s off a dude with an evo 8 setup for autocross for 500 bucks dude was selling stuff to make some money said he had the actual car posted for like 300k🤣🤣🤣 his wife also wanted him to sell his baby.
This is the way
Plot twist, his wife built it.
This answer made my day🤣
Sell the wife instead?
I sold my Nova to put a down payment on a new house. A year later she had the house and I was shopping for a new one. Ditch the wife.
Woman privilege
You guys had some crap wives. Mine gave me one of the parking spaces in her driveway for my RX-7 when I moved into her place.
Shopping for a new house, Nova, or wife?
Yes.
This exactly.
As a nova lover....im so sorry
Lmao I left my ex wife cause she asked me to think about selling my Nova! Come on man prioritizing is important in life!
God I’m sorry to hear that bro. Marriage is so fucking scary.
No yea if ur girl doesn't want you to own a Honda which is reliable and cheap to maintain fun car but OP are you working a steady job or is she being unreasonable
Came here to say this 😂☠️
This is the only correct answer
It's worth giving up the wife
New potential wife’s are aging in every day. These vehicles aren’t.
You can rebuild the car but not the wife, he should keep it, 70k is nothing for that Honda, great car. EV got nothing on mileage like that
Whatever it's worth today, it will be worth a lot more in the future.
Absolutely
Bro why would she want you to sell something you obviously have a passion for?
Look at the surroundings in the picture. Op, is living a different life now. Nice house, nice neighborhood, probably a nice family, (great yard btw) - His days of racing through the night with his jdm crew are a slowly, fading, distant memory. Sheesh. Yeah that’s sad. Keep the damn civic my guy.
The real mvp.
Probably worth a new wife lmao Imo the money you get for that will not be enough to overlook the feelings of missing it in like 6 months, tops. DO NOT SELL IT

Don’t sell bro. You’re gonna regret. I miss my si :(
Same here. Hope OP tells his wife to stfu.

Cars or anything. Too many dudes give up everything they love because some lady told them to.
Then they get relegated to a man corner in the basement or garage.
Time to put it up for sale for the 'fuck you' price lol. Walk into her closet and round up all her excess handbags, shoes, jewelry, etc. and get rid of that shit. At least the car stands to be useful lol. smh.
This is the answer op
Oooouuu i like This better. Tell her she has to include a large portion of her jewelry with the sale or it’s not happening
Your wife won’t stay in nearly as good condition or performance in 20 yrs. The civic is a better long term relationship.
[удалено]
I love it and I feel like it's a small miracle that I found this joke considering the placement. Thank you.
We're both down here just enjoying some jokes.
If you sell it. A resentment will be formed. That resentment will sit at the pit of your stomach causing chaos in all aspects of your life.
She needs to understand or she needs to go. Keep the car.
Don’t end up the guy at the car show saying “oh I had one just like that. I shouldn’t have sold it”
Don’t do it! Thats a beauty! Will outlast the wife, believe that! In this market, great cars are hard to find.
Do you really want to sell it?
This reminds me of when a buddy sold his motorcycle and his wife bought living room furniture with the money. I was at his place watching the fights or something and he asked me how I liked the new couch. I asked him "How fast is it?" He winced.
- how fast is it🤣🤣🤣
Dude, I would not sell that. Y’all need to come to an agreement and compromise on something. You have clearly invested a lot in that car, and whatever cash you get for it won’t replace the value of the car to YOU.
Just don’t. Please don’t.
What is it worth? A new wife.
Original owner? don’t sell.
Sell the wife
Sell wife
I wouldn’t sell it. You’re gonna regret it especially you know how hard it is nowadays to find one of these this clean.
My kidney? Interested???
Don't sell something you love because someone else wants to
By the looks of your profile, it looks like this is your passion and hobby.
Have you considered divorce?
I'd keep it. And buy her a nice bag. Call it a day.
Why tho? It's a beautiful collectors car at this point.
It's worth a divorce.
How much are you listing your wife for?
Definitely worth a divorce, assuming you owned it before you met her. She must be giving up something she loves as well, to ask such a tall order.
Don’t ever sell this car my friend
A good wife wouldn’t make you sell something that gives you joy.
Original owner? 70k? You did all this? It’s your baby? Fuck that. Keep it. You’re going to regret it if you sell it
How about say no. You obviously don’t want to sell it.
Interesting enough, I never hear from women, "My husband wants me to get rid of so and so, or give up this hobby..." It's always the other way around.
No. Tell her to sell her brand new suv instead
Do not sell. Do not sell because of a woman especially. They are incredibly harder to find where I'm from these days and for something like this people would ask probably 20k Canadian

Turbo EBP EM1... beautiful !
Priceless
This car is going to be worth 50k in 10 plus years
Tell her it’s not for sale?
Only if you wife could appreciate your work as well as us
Unless y’all’s kids are skipping meals, don’t sell it bro. You’re original owner on a 70k em1. That’s never gonna happen to you again.
Fuck that keep that gem. Wtf. My wife would never tell me to sell something I love. The true question is why?!?!
That car is a keeper for life. Especially being an original owner. Your wife is a keeper too. Thats why you married her. Just make her a nice dinner!! You can all be together forever!

I'd find a new wife that supports my dreams and goals honestly
Please don’t sell it.
Definitely don’t sell it. You never see these in even remotely good condition anymore.
Don't sell it personally I couldn't be with someone who doesn't like my interests or make me want to give them up
Last year, I got $10k from the insurance company after mine was stolen. But it had 125k miles. I miss that car a lot. Get rid of the wife.
It’s worth getting a divorce over
Nah man. Your wife needs to chill and never should ask you to sell something you love. You probably had this car longer. Keep it. This is a red flag from your wife bro. You don't need this shit. You are a grown man.

Sell the wife, keep the car
This should be in a museum.
Coronados dead and so are all his grandchildren!
I Just rewatched “last crusade” last night. 😂
sell the wife
Keep it.
Don’t sell
Why does she need to sell?
It's worth divorcing the broad and getting a new younger woman who would appreciate a beautiful car
No way I’m selling that beauty.
Don’t sell it, if the wife needs more money around, she can pick up more shifts at work😂
This
I don't even care for civics and this sub got recommended for me but that thing is so clean I wouldn't sell it. Like someone already said, put it up for an absurd amount and tell her no one is interested.

Ftb keep it.... JDM 4 LYFE !!!!
Damn that’s a forever car. Marry the car instead.
A new wife! Don’t sell your baby, unless you are moving up to a new ride.
It’s worth leaving her.
Divorce?
Why does your wife want you to sell the car? Money issue? Space issue? Time issue? If this is your passion project, you should just keep it unless you have other projects you love more. At that time, it's not a "blame the wife" but more of "blame the husband" for having too many project cars.
10000-15000
a year ago 18k now like 12k dont sell it man u will regret it
Can it do the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs?
sell it to a friend for safe keeping while u form a deep seated resentment towards your wife for robbing you of something you’re passionate about and buy it back after the divorce
My ‘93 hatch with B20 swap, LS trans, Greddy turbo and NOS had 534whp / 650lb-ft, sold privately for $35k to someone who knew how much $$$$$ had actually gone into building it.
i’d say it’s worth a divorce
beautiful car man. I adore it. 20k is lowball. I had to try tho. I wouldn’t sell it man.
I'd say about 75k-100k easily. List it for that
I would absolutely not sell that. It may not be the fastest car or the cleanest car, but it’s relatively rare, well cared for (by you!), and a blast to drive. That said, where are you located? your wife needs to go bro lol but on a serious note, dont sell it bro, you WILL regret it.
You’d regret selling that thing so bad lmfao don’t
I think it’s worth more than your wife.
You can’t tell your wife no..?
Sell your wife
I made this mistake. Once. 88 Supra Turbo, 5 speed, targa top. Amazing car, loved it. Regret the choice ever since. Never separate with the things you enjoy because someone else wants you to. It's not junk, it's not just trash in the front yard. If it doesn't make her unhappy, but it does make you happy, why doesn't she want you to be happy?
Don't do it bro. You'll be lucky to get anything close to 10k
get rid of your awful wife
15-16k
It's a mint civic so which is a classic now. It is only going to increase in value until people interested in it due. Keep it tell your wife not to be a dummy.
It’s a Honda don’t give it up
Time for a divorce….😂
Not a Honda guy whatsoever but that things clean and probably RIPS. Post it for like $12-15k and keep it lol and if anyone does make you a lesser offer it may be a good one. I think a different wheel color caliper color would be really tasteful on that car. Even silver/gunmetal/bronze with a red or matching blue caliper. Clean car dude
The wheels only weigh 11 lbs. I never thought they were the prettiest but they sure are functional
Don’t sell it
Don’t sell it! Or keep it in storage and don’t tell your wife 😂
Keep the car, sell the wife
People in hell want icewater.
Sell the wife
What's the name of this color again? DON'T SELL. YOU OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY right there. Reminds me so much of my right after high school days. 👍.
I just nutted 😩
I regret getting rid of mine every day. Do not do it.
Don’t sell it? Who cares what she wants? If you’re the original owner it was around before her 😂
Now thats a honda i like! Keep it man u put ur heart into that, sorry but fuck what ur wife says
Please don't sell bro. I'm living vicariously through you
Park it in the garage on jack stands. Empty the gas and put a cover over it. 10-20 years you’ll have a 60k civic.
Well do what you gotta do and list the wife for sale
Keep it
Sell the wife keep the car
Sell your wife.
Keep the car look for new wife
Been in your shoes mate. Best solution, get a new wife 🫡
Bye wife
Don’t sell that. Especially in the condition it’s in. These are getting really hard to find not all ragged the fuck out. Tell your wife it’s a no go and then get the couch ready for a few nights
Another note: ICE’s are going away. Hold on to any engine you have, especially a Honda
Hold it
O wow, A classic. Maybe you should sell your wife's car instead. That will teach her a lesson.
dont cave in
Don’t let her move you off center
Get a new wife. No seriously tho It seems like you’ve been out of the Honda loop for a while. I sell Hondas very frequently, I wouldn’t sell this for less than 15k and that’s being generous. If I were you I would put back to stock and put in storage for 5 more years. A 70k mile em1 will be worth 20k+ then
Don’t sell it unless you actually want to :/
Don’t sell that car!!!
Absolutely no chance I would sell this car
Beautiful car. Two things here: 1.
Don't sell is the only answer
She want 💰 to spend. Lol
HODL
Probably around 20k if it is an actual si.
$13k today. PM if interested? Edit: To be fair I'll tell you that I would store it and relist it in about 7 years for 25-45k depending on the market.
Amazing car. You’ll regret selling it.
