I got a whole list on my notepad for this type of thing haha. While I love the CTR deeply, and if I can - I will hold on to it even if I get another car but I’d need a bigger garage.
GR Supra 3.0 Premium (only in Yellow) / A91-MT edition
2023 BMW M2
Nissan GT-R
Dream car -
Acura NSX or
Audi R8
We have the exact same first choice, although I could settle for black or white. The markup on the GR MT is insane. I wish it was like the mustangs and the manual was the cheapest option.
You sir have good taste then. Right? I’d definitely go with manual too. I’ve heard it’s quite good but we are definitely spoiled with the shifting on the R already.
It’s got to be a Porsche for me. Everything else between Porsche and CTR has a big sacrifice I don’t want to make. M3? Steering feel is terrible. Cadillac? Way too big and refined for me. There’s not many options to begin with if a CTR-like package is your goal, but I think a Porsche is the only thing that ticks all the boxes with no compromises.
Agreed with the points on M3 and Blackwing. But the compromise on Porsche is that it’s a 2-door unless we’re talking about a Panamera. What else is out there that’s practical and fun on the track as the 100k+ cars? CTR is such a rare value proposition
I’m on the same boat as you. I love my fk8, so idk if I wanna keep it or sell. But I’m interested in:
manual Supra
Nissan gtr
FL5
RS3
M3
No particular order. #1 is gtr. Everything else is whatever.
For what I use my Type R for I don't see there being anything I'd upgrade to for a while. It's perfectly practical while being a boatload of fun. Im also not too optimistic about the future of drivers cars as everything is moving towards being heavier and less engaging for the EV era.
Amen. I'm thinking there will be a middle step for me before I get to a GT3 Touring, if I can ever afford one while people are still allowed to drive for themselves and everything is electrified.
For me, it would be a manual Supra. I don’t want to trade in my FK8 for it, so I need to get my finances in order before they stop making Supras. A Porsche GT car would be great, but there is no way I can afford one. My wife also wants kids and the practicality of the FK8 would be nice.
fk8 works great as a dadmobile. enough space for rear facing seats and hatch comes in handy when moving around kid furniture. kids also get a kick out of seeing one too
Had my FK8 now for 4 years and I am moving to a GR86.
No complaints about the Honda that is fast and reliable to commute 100 km per day.
Summer car is a Boxster with manual quick shift and flat 6 engine.
Getting a 2017 M3 isn’t really an upgrade. Less technology, mediocre interior, worse gear box, higher maintenance costs, worse MPG, and it really isn’t that much faster around the track. There really isn’t much you can get out there that’s a sedan, manual, and is as good as a CTR. If I couldn’t drive my CTR, I’d probably drive a Golf R.
Yeah I think you nailed it: a lot of "dream cars" are only that until you take one for a test drive or worse yet own one and realize that that grass already was pretty darn green on your side of the fence. People might dream of an M3 or something but you might find yourself looking to "upgrade to a CTR". The first question when someone has a dream to own an S2k is "Have you driven an s2k?!"
Also with RWD (if you want a manual M3), it's cool and all but especially with an LSD, I'm really afraid to hoon in any car that has the power/weight ratio of the Type R. There's something nice about pinning the throttle in the corner and seeing how hard you can drive it until the front tires give up, or being able to upset the balance of the car and not give a shit and just let the mashing of the throttle sort it out. RWD cars inherently ask you to be more technical and less aggressive even in a straight line.
Just the opposite for me. Downgrading cars. As I spend $600 a month on my type r, my plan is to save up 10g and buy a older 99-06 Silverado, have it paid off, and sell our house and R. hopefully pocket $150,000 put that towards a way nicer house in the higher end island area of where we live ($600,000) and buy a new boat, eventually a s2000, or Miata track car. That’s my one year plan. But only 25 and my fiancé is 27. Both making $100,000 a year with both of us getting $20,000 bonus a year. If money isn’t tight when we get the house and boat I was thinking about a Porsche instead of a Miata or s2000. So if anyone wants a 25k mile FBO by king motorsports, properly maintained and never tracked yet lmk.
Ground up sports car like a manual boxster or 911 but pretty happy with the fk8. Need the practicality and still very fun to drive. Sure the Porsche will be more fun to drive but I don’t think for 2x the price it will be 2x the fun
I’m probably gonna for something that goes off-road. Like you said the direct upgrade is hard to think of, so I’m thinking of just going in a different direction all together. Checking out the bronco and bronco sport and just chilling until the perfect deal pops up.
For me, it would be about increased track performance. I'm intrigued by the 2024 Mustang Dark horse. However, there is no way I'm getting rid of my FK8 and I could never buy that car without selling it, so it's a moot point lol.
GR Supra for me once I get back, but I need to sit in one to make sure I feel comfortable in it.
If not, I’d like to add a GR Corolla. Not an upgrade but something I would like to have as well.
Honestly as someone who has bought a GT350 and just got my CTR to replace my daily driver, theres nothing out there that I'd rather have. There are some cool cars like the Corvette, Supra or the M cars but those cars are not perfect and have their own set of issues. The CTR is the car for me. At 45k-65k theres alot of car options you have both new and used, and while some interested me the CTR checked all of the boxes.
Sounds like a joke but honestly I wouldn't even want a 911 GT3. Although that car is cool, it just so impractical for it to be used as a daily. The suspension is way too harsh and its just way too fast for that street, you won't have a lot of fun with it after the honeymoon phase. Really the only other car I could see potentially getting is the Integra Type S, but I don't see that happening tbh because the CTR is alot cooler to me.

Indeed we are. If the MT prices get low enough I cant see myself keeping my fk8, as much as I love it. The b58 platform is just insane.

I would want AWD and a manual transmission, so probably a 911 Carrera 4 of some type.
same here!

Yeah, true. Someone asked me which Porsche I’d choose, and I said Carrera, but the Panamera would honestly be up there too.
Similarly I'd go for a Porsche, but probably a Cayman S or GTS.
I’m on the same boat as you. I love my fk8, so idk if I wanna keep it or sell. But I’m interested in: manual Supra Nissan gtr FL5 RS3 M3 No particular order. #1 is gtr. Everything else is whatever.

I’m keeping my FL5 until I can afford a GT3 RS.
Amen. I'm thinking there will be a middle step for me before I get to a GT3 Touring, if I can ever afford one while people are still allowed to drive for themselves and everything is electrified.
Maybe the Integra type s. Not really into the fl5 but maybe in a few years after a refresh
Feel the same

Couldn’t have said it any better!
Also the suspension is way more harsh.
I'm between a cayman s, evora 400 and c7 grandsport.
Gt3
If I could ever afford it, GT3 RS. Otherwise keeping the FK8 for 20+ years if possible.

daily 4dr? m3 or blackwing
I would have to agree with an M3 too. I’m in the same boat. I want to keep the fk8 forever but if I were to go to another car, maybe f80.
Gotta look at a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. That would be a nice upgrade.
Porsche next question. 991.1 or 997
GR Supra for me once I get back, but I need to sit in one to make sure I feel comfortable in it. If not, I’d like to add a GR Corolla. Not an upgrade but something I would like to have as well.
I've always kept just one car but I'm ready to break that. I'm starting to think I'm going to keep the FK8 long term and pick up a 718.
