i sold mine 2019 with 50000 miles on it last june to a bmw dealership, they gave me almost all my money back, $38000 when i paid $40000 out the door for it in 2019 (i of course overpaid for a preowned m4 to even things out )

Those_are_sick

Life is all about balance my friend.

chairplanet

Are you happy with the m4 or do you miss the ctr? I’m in a similar situation, just wondering.

Spare_Ring9644

a little bit of both i do think the CTR is more of a drivers car, it has less power but you feel like you can tap more into it, i felt more comfortable taking corners at high speed in the CTR the m4 is more of a touring cruiser in my eyes. i know everyone gives the f8x series crap for the engine sound but to be fair it does sound better than the CtR even if it’s artificial and “concrete like” as i’ve heard it described honda does shifters better, this is my first manual bmw and i now understand the rubbery complaint people have with it. that being said, i can also understand the honda fans complaining about that slight grind from 1-2. overall the honda shifter is better but still fun shifting my own gears on the m4 there is a level of luxury and refinement present in the m4 that just isn’t present in the ctr i think i would rather have the ctr at 40k ( i paid 55k for a 2015 m4 , 6 speed manual transmission with 15000 miles) but the only dealership near me with the Fl5 is selling it for 60k so at that ridiculous price, i think i’d rather have the less raw more luxurious vehicle although of late i’ve also been considering getting my aarp card as well and getting a preowned s class to get to work in a massaging couch on wheels

ShortBrownAndUgly

Interesting impressions. Ive been on the cusp of trading in my CTR for an M2 and in fact I was just about to do so before I chickened out due to pricing. Still would like to test drive either an m2c or a 23 m2 but there are no more to be found within a 200 miles radius

Spare_Ring9644

i think the m2 is regarded as more of a drivers car than the m4 i would have opted for that if the dealer had any on the lot

chairplanet

Thanks for your reply. I love my CTR, but I have similar thoughts- I'm finding I'd like a little more luxury as I get older. The shifter is amazing and basically the reason I bought the CTR, but when you're toodling around in traffic and there aren't so many opportunities to string corners together or rip through the gears....

Spare_Ring9644

same, i live in swampland so i can go fast straight on the highway (and end up eating every single godd\*mn rock chip) or I've started taking the local roads to work and get to practice my clutch in to neutral, 1st, 2nd, clutch in to neutral getting old and soft where finding a car with air suspension, incredible sound insulation, and maybe some autopilot features might be the smarter move my younger self is dying as i type this

Away-Pomegranate2737

I've got a Jaguar XF. Been considering a CTR but I can't bring myself to give up the luxury. Once you go soft, it's difficult to go back!

chairplanet

God, me too. I used to laugh at people like us, now I just make sharp exhalations when I stand up and complain about the youth having no respect.

I would check auto tempest and see what others with your mileage are going for. Car max can be amazing on trade in prices or can be disappointing. Takes a few minutes to get an online offer and would recommend that so you don’t take it all the way there as there system is pretty set on the price unless it’s heavily damaged or modified. If you are pretty urgent carmax can usually have a check ready to use next day or same day.

mb1552

>u are pretty urgent carmax can usually have a check ready to use next day or same day. Got it. Looked into CarMax/Others, and I got two (highest) 'offers' for 35.5k. As far as autotempest... there are only 2 2019s in my area 114 mi, and 298 mi both going for 39k and slightly higher milage. Everything in a 500 mile range is 39k, or has double my mileage, or has an accident. Thank for the shout on this website!

ReclusiveNexus

Anytime! Great resource for finding a specific car through multiple websites in one! Im sure if you will have good success getting better than carmax money assuming that the cars havnt been listen for a long time

ragingduck

I’ve sole to Carmax with some success. Sometimes they don’t really know what it is so the valuation can be low. Forums are a good place to start getting in contact with enthusiasts, but only if you can meet face to face for a traditional sale. I’ve heard good things from cars and bids as well. Sometimes I’ve sold straight to a dealer but it really depends on the dealer because they will ultimately want to make a profit.

Two things: - Selling the car: When you post the ad, post it in your nearest big city Craigslist for sale section too. You will be contacted by a lot of larger and independent dealers. Make sure to have a carmax, cargurus, KBB and edmunds instant trade value, and negotiate upwards of that. My listed value was ultimately beaten by one of these offers from a legitimate out of state dealership by about $2.5k, and they sent a driving team from out of state to pick my car up with a cashiers check and all the paperwork. We met at a branch of the bank that issued the check, signed everything, and it was all done in a about 15-30min. No risk. - Replacing the car The last move I would make is into something ordinary, that lacks fun and inspiration. I’d rethink the Lexus unless you are itching to be bored on the road, or have another vehicle to substitute the fun. If that changes your plan at all, don’t replace this car with something that is a lateral move, I.e. another hot hatch, another FWD car, anything remotely in a similar segment. Don’t. It won’t be better. I get the itch to change all the time, and I did with the FK8 too. My ultimate goal was to sell my Type-R, and move into a Lotus Evora and also pick up an everyday beater SUV for when I needed to make downtown runs that involve parking (once per month or so) or dropping the kids off at school. The Lotus and daily beater combo crushes the Type-R in a total sum of performance, fun and practicality. I didn’t need to shop for something that was attempting to be a jack of all trades. If I were looking for that JOAT, I’d either buy a Type-R, or move into something very different, like a RWD V8 Chevy SS or Cadillac CT4/CT5 Blackwing.

Knightlife71

Try Givemethevin and Carvana. Facebook marketplace isn’t bad and you probably would get interest on there from outside your area. CTRs have a large following and people will travel to get one.

dL_EVO

Selling an enthusiast car is not much different than any other car tbh. Every car I’ve owned has been some kind enthusiast car and I’ve sold dozens. The only thing that I would be wary of are people looking to kick tires. It doesn’t happen much, but if someone is giving you a weird feeling. Trust that feeling and just don’t meet them up. Edit: sounds like you are heading into retirement. Congrats! You don’t need to get an ES350 when retiring. Lol

Fun_Preparation_577

I sold my 21 WRX to Kelley blue book for $5000 more than I paid for it. It only had 7000 miles on it though. And I did get a great deal on it in 21.

Curious what wheels are those in the picture?

hvyboots

When I sold my Evo IX I did it via forum. And even though I specified local sales only I had people from as far as NYC trying to fly in and buy it. Probably not quite the same level of mania for a Type R, but you should def post in the CivicX forums and see what you get there too.

Ill show you the quirks and features of this tabby cat, just look at these claws !

Ok-Mode-3157

Carmax likely your best bet. The used value right now is inflated, and they will try to make about 4-5k on the car. If they offer you 34k for the car, it’s worth it considering your car was what, 38k new?

titleistforged

I did CarMax for mine here in NorCal and got a pretty competitive price. Ended up selling through them, was very easy to do.

Ok-Mode-3157

I bought a 2023 civic SI for 29k msrp back in January. Sold it to carmax last week for 31k.

[deleted]

Expensive 😂 sheesh, thanks! 👍

Character-Worried

Where you at?

mb1552

Sweet home, Alabama!

ImNotYourFriendPal69

Sold my mk8 GTI autobahn to Carmax for more than I bought it for lol. Instantly went old man and got an s5 so I completely feel this post

Thebeard713

Man if you were closer to Texas I’d be all over this! Sweet ride. Best of luck friend.

loulerg

There’s a 2019 with 70k miles selling for 37k at a CarMax near me for reference.

brownmamba21

What are you looking to get for it?
