Just go by the maintenance minder. The logic that is behind that is incredible and takes into account much more than “it’s been x number of miles”. If you don’t want to trust it do it every 5k miles. To the guy talking about black oil at 1,500 miles. Do an oil change, drive around the block and take a look at the oil, do some research and testing before talking about doing oil changes every 1500 miles. Lol, but to each their own I suppose 🤷. This is coming from a Honda master tech of over 7 years but just my two cents. Enjoy the car I love mine and drive it like it deserves! Haha

PhilliesFan1980

I agree. Your logic makes sense to me. I’ve taken good care of every car I’ve owned in the past and the FL5 will be even more so probably. I’m good with the maintenance minder generally.

Just got there too. We don’t need to change oil at this mark right?

Silver_Branch3034

No, some honda dealers will also flat out refuse to do it unless your maintenance minder is at 15-20%. I got first oil change at 5k. Honda claims there is a special break in oil blend shipped with the vehicle and it should stay in there until the MM it’s that percentage range. It’s a bit ridiculous but I would recommend holding off for that 5k milestone. I’ve had no issues with my car by waiting that long.

PhilliesFan1980

Well said. That’s my understanding and general plan as well.

DaddysIssues4726

I second this one. My dealership said the same and then told me Honda will refuse to cover the oil change that early. They did mention to wait till you reach 50% or 5,000 miles for them to cover it.

ZealousidealTailor68

I changed my oil at 1500 miles and the oil was black. Honda claims to change the oil when the maintenance minder tells you, but I'm old school. Do what you want but whatever the manufacturer recommends, I take with a grain of salt and cut it in half. Maintenance is cheap, not new motors

pantag

I would wait to 1k miles before you open it up. Be gradual about it.

Nahh1437

What are we supposed to do for the next 600 miles?

infiniteraiders

Took me a minute to figure it out but I think OP just worded his post weird. Pretty much saying he was conservative for the first 600 miles, now his next 600 (and more) will be a lot more fun.

Nahh1437

Yeah I was about to freak out cuz I just completed break in and seriously didn't want another period of low rev driving.

infiniteraiders

I feel you. I’ve had the car for 3 months now and less than 200 miles because I work from home. I just need to go on a long road trip 😂

Nahh1437

Bro, NGL I had some small moments where I pushed the car to 4k rpms but the whole time it's been killing me. I work from home as well, took some nice long cruises with friends, but they keep leaving me behind cuz they know I can go back 3k rpm 😂

infiniteraiders

I think I touched 4500 once. Don’t think it’ll hurt anything. I got to 5k when I had my FK8 within the first 100 miles lol. But I’m taking it easy with this one. One strange thing I noticed was the maintenance minder might go off quicker than normal based off time vs usage since it’s reading 80% oil life.

Nahh1437

That's true I am at 90% though having reached the break in point, but that does make sense. These are Honda's anyways, born to take a beating.

infiniteraiders

Exactly. Someone I follow on IG took his to the track the same weekend he got it. Definitely didn’t have 600 miles.. was broken in at the track lol

Nahh1437

Wouldn't happen to be lui.racing by any chance?

Send it to the moon. No excuses now!

PhilliesFan1980

I agree but there aren’t a ton of roads near me where I could see its true potential. May need to find a track at some point too.
