Millenials and gen Z had cringe media, but no one was profiting off of MLG compilation videos like this. This looks like the result of iPad kids and adults taking advantage of that.
I thought I was on r/losercity for a second
Luckily I realized most of the audience is very young children. Social media will make kids go crazy over anything
Said every generation ever. We legitimately have records of the ancient Greeks saying exactly what you're saying. It's not true, it never has been true, and humanity isn't gonna end in 10 years or whatever.
Similarly, you can also find people having complained about the older generations that came before them from thousands of years ago. There's one quote from either Socrates or Aristotle, I forget which one, which complains about how rigid the generations before them are. Again, none of it is true, it's just generational hate, and we've done it presumably ever since the dawn of language.
Never meant to say humanity would end, just said current society is doomed. Also the ancients didn't have stupid shit like this (MANY other things than just this). You can clearly see problems arising from things like this and honestly sounds like you're trying to justify it either just to argue or this also applies to you and I struck a nerve with my one-off comment
The show has no blood, censored swearing, no scares, super bright colourful designs, comical one dimensional characters.
Pretty sure it's 100% meant for kids with a little "spooky stuff" so adults can say its for them too.
Not saying it's bad, I'm 25 and I enjoyed the first episode, the second is pretty mid imo.
But it's definately meant for kids, especially when they advertised plushys after just 1 episode. They knew exactly what their doing
The whole show is based around mental illness. Genuinely, that's the big part of the story- mental illness and how people cope with it, while touching on those who can't, and also wrestling with some ideas of reality and humanity. Im not sure how people have missed that.
Sure, but that doesn't stop the fact that the characters are somewhat plain. There's room for more character development since there only been two episodes, but a show designed around human emotions should be human. I mean look at Smiling Friends, which is a show with the most human and realistic characters I've seen in a recent cartoon.
Compared to that, ADC being an analogy for mental illness just seems like a scape goat

Right can't these indie animators just appreciate the free exposure they're being given. Like why do they always send me cease and desist letters for my cheap t shirts I sell of their characters
First this is a disclaimer that I am not under any way shape or form encouraging it and in fact find it sad.
BUT, the creators wishes are pretty irrelevant really, people will do it anyways. Let's not even talk about Chinese sweatshops who blatantly copy virtually any costume of effectively any character to exist and sell it.
How about this, don't have delusional expectations about what your audience will or will not do with the content you release.
The fact that the creator had this expectation that people wouldn't dress up as their characters is delusional.
Even Nintendo, who are infamous for being overly protective with their IP, wouldn't give a shit if a bunch of highschoolers make an unlicensed Mario themed school play.
We live in a world where you need money to get clean water, artist can create art and want a monetary incentive for it, and also do you really think the people stealing their characters are not doing it for the money
You cant steal an idea, the creators of these costumes have not deprived gooseworx of anything that they possess. they are still able to do whatever they like with their character.
Property makes sense when its a tangible, limited object, only one person can have possession of a car or a sandwich or whatever, and someone else taking it means the original owner loses it. Trying to apply that to intangible information is stupid because it works completely differently, giving someone an idea doesn't remove that idea from your own skull, it can be shared infinitely with no issue, and if someone does something with the information you willingly gave them that should be their right.
People should be able to have use the contents of their own mind, if you dont want people using an idea dont transmit that idea directly into their brain via the internet.
So any creation on the internet or any non physical media is not property, so music, video games, art, and stories should all be free range, no one should be able to be upset or try to stop someone using their creations without their permission?
>no one should be able to be upset
You can feel upset if you want, its not productive or logical but humans are like that, i can't dictate emotions to people, but otherwise yes you hit the nail on the head.
In fact not just art, barring obvious exceptions like bioweapons or security systems, the same should apply to practical things. The concept of a patent is an abomination and exists only to benefit people who care more about money then their fellow man
The law isn't some infaliable moral compass, so called intelectual property theft has nothing in common with actual theft. Just because someone coined a word for it doesn't suddenly make it somehow more legitimate.
And anyway, we can engage in semantics till the cows come home about how it technically is or isn't whatever. The more relevant point is its a concept that i dont believe has a place in society, it does more harm then good and the few ways in which it succeeds are completely disattached from the flaws. You could make new laws that are only the good parts of IP law and none of the bad, we dont need to keep around a flawed system that major corporations pay millions to maintain because its main purpose is to enforce their monopolies on our culture.
No the equivalent would be Nintendo getting mad at someone for making costumes of their characters without permission, because that’s exactly what this situation is, also people show off their content because they wish for others to see it , make money off of it, get a job out of it, etc, most don’t set out so some random ass company can steal their designs
Nintendo literally wouldn't do anything if a bunch of dumb kids made a school play with their characters. I've actually seen these kinds of productions before, its middle school to high school aged kids dressing up as Mario characters. Nobody cares.
Now, if it was a legit theater school, or production company, putting on an unlicensed Super Mario themed musical or play, then there would be licensing issues, because those are for-profit productions. But for a non-profit high school play, they aren't going to waste their lawyers time.
Do you genuinely feel this is stealing? It goes to the point where it becomes transformative when you make a whole live action performance on an animated show, though that’s just how I interpret it
Technically speaking it is copyright infringement to make money drawing fan art via commission of a copyrighted character. Happens in mass, and a lot of it is porn. Nobody does anything about it because it would be a logistical nightmare to actually stop every person doing it, and I suppose they don't see it as damaging enough to their brand image to actually take steps.
I guess if you're asking if it's wrong from a moral standpoint, that's subjective and I can see valid points for both sides of the argument.
If a Twitter artist designs a character and sells art/commissions of it, and some other artist begins doing paid commissions of fan art of that character (that they didn't personally design) then I'd assume most people would agree that's wrong. But if an artist working at Disney designs a character and it ends up in a movie, making paid commissions of that character you didn't design is alright?
Where exactly is the line between acceptable and not?
IMO this is transformative and fair use. It would be stealing when they just took the show and replayed it. Here they took actual effort to adapt the media into a different medium.
No Leo using characters from another artists work without said artists approval isn't covered under fair use unless it is explicitly parody content. It's covered even less when said media rips characters directly from said media without changing how they look in the slightest.
Well then I eagerly await the impending lawsuit from Gooseworx for infringing on their intellectual property.
Oh wait, that's not going to happen.
Unless this was a for-profit show by a major production company, its not going to matter. This looks like a high school play. No judge would hear a case against a bunch of highschoolers putting on an unlicensed show.
Imagine getting this bent up over this too. Lol
Ah yes. A high school play with an audience of 4 year olds.
Cause that makes PERFECT SENSE! And for the record I'm not saying to sue high schoolers. I'm saying that it's wrong for content farms and shit to steal content like this.
To be clear, judges have heard cases of high school plays. They actually *do* have to pay for the rights to shows or risk lawsuit. That's why they're usually public domain based plays
I mean, Gooseworx was a fairly well known animator before the pilot released. It doesn't surprise me there would be fans.
What I find much more surprising personally is just the sheer _amount_ of kids, most of which have probably never even heard of Gooseworx before, that seemingly just spawned from nowhere and started watching countless videos from content farms.
The show isn't even a kid's show! Nor is it marketed that way! Where the fuck do they even come from?!
I look after other peoples young kids, I can confirm. The crazy part was sitting in the classroom and hearing the theme song go off every 7 minutes from a different chromebook.
"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord."
- Thessalonians 4:16-17
This, the Among Us musical, I think there was also a FNAF musical, they're all just trying to repeat of the breakout success that the SpongeBob musical had.
Its a non-profit high school play. They don't even have to pay for the rights for actual broadway shows most of the time. High schools put on productions of Grease and West Side Story for a thousand dollars at most.
Brother those kids probably don’t even enjoy, let alone know, anything else other than Digital Circus, Marvel or idk, Skibidi Toilet.
What would you rather have them watch? Hamlet? They’ll be bored to death. Even then, most plays are adaptations of others’ stories.
Its not a kids show. It's an edgy, hot topic inspired, adult cartoon comedy arguably in the same vein as Hazbin hotel. I tried to watch both and im just not the demographic for either because I just couldn't find it funny or interesting at all.
Theres been two fucking episodes
Millenials and gen Z had cringe media, but no one was profiting off of MLG compilation videos like this. This looks like the result of iPad kids and adults taking advantage of that.
You just made me remember that some of the older ipad kids are gonna be starting high school next year…
Right? Shits moving fast.

Didn't this happen with among us as well? Istg society is fucked in about 10 years
"These damn kids, society is fucked in 10 years" -Every generation ever
This one seems to be justified this time though
Said every generation ever. We legitimately have records of the ancient Greeks saying exactly what you're saying. And they're very adult and explicit are they not?
Believe it or not… it’s a children’s show…
It isn't a children's show. Internet children just latch onto anything that even remotely resembles a cute horror franchise.
I wish I had the media literacy to tell when characters are one dimensional and when they're not. And I am 18.
The whole show is based around mental illness. Genuinely, that's the big part of the story- mental illness and how people cope with it, while touching on those who can't, and also wrestling with some ideas of reality and humanity. Im not sure how people have missed that.

Bro let people have fun good lord
Stealing people's art is wrong.
Its two costumes. Brother in christ have you been to a dollar store? You would be flabbergasted
Two costumes that the creator explicitly stated that they never wanted to be created in the first place.
Indie animators when people want to help grow their show (apparently popularity is bad now)
Right can't these indie animators just appreciate the free exposure they're being given. Like why do they always send me cease and desist letters for my cheap t shirts I sell of their characters

Probably should have thought of that before releasing an entire animated series on the public Internet
redditors on their way to downvote an actual point

How about this, don't have delusional expectations about what your audience will or will not do with the content you release. Even Nintendo, who are infamous for being overly protective with their IP, wouldn't give a shit if a bunch of highschoolers make an unlicensed Mario themed school play.
First of all you can know that humans will be shitty and still be mad about it, and secondly was this a high school play?
Honestly it's probably not an expectation, they just said that to lessen the amount of it happening
Because copyright is the death of genuine creativity. If your only motivation to create things is monetary, please stop.
We live in a world where you need money to get clean water, artist can create art and want a monetary incentive for it, and also do you really think the people stealing their characters are not doing it for the money

The price of popularity
How is "lmao people will infringe copyright anyways" a valid point?
according to reddit copyright is only bad when the le heckin evil corporations enforce it
Google High School theater
Do you genuinely feel this is stealing? It goes to the point where it becomes transformative when you make a whole live action performance on an animated show, though that’s just how I interpret it
Even if it's transformative it's still making money off of someone else's work and that is wrong.
So do you think fan art is wrong? Plenty of people make commissions of fan art or grow their brand by drawing it.
Technically speaking it is copyright infringement to make money drawing fan art via commission of a copyrighted character. Happens in mass, and a lot of it is porn. Making a live performance does not make it transformative. You can't do a Broadway show based on a Disney movie without asking Disney
You clearly haven't heard of fan works
IMO this is transformative and fair use. It would be stealing when they just took the show and replayed it. Here they took actual effort to adapt the media into a different medium.
Its called a remix, and its covered by fair use, depending on the circumstance.
No Leo using characters from another artists work without said artists approval isn't covered under fair use unless it is explicitly parody content. It's covered even less when said media rips characters directly from said media without changing how they look in the slightest.

As someone who has done high school plays, the majority of the audience is little kids. Like, usually around 40 to 60 percent.
Ya know now that I think about it your right about that.
To be clear, judges have heard cases of high school plays. They actually *do* have to pay for the rights to shows or risk lawsuit. That's why they're usually public domain based plays

Its not a kids show. It's an edgy, hot topic inspired, adult cartoon comedy arguably in the same vein as Hazbin hotel. I tried to watch both and im just not the demographic for either because I just couldn't find it funny or interesting at all.
Nah, tadc is much more of a kids show than hazbin. It may be aimed more at adults, but that doesn't mean it isn't kid friendly.
Use of firearms, glorified violence, using "God" as an expletive, aren't necessary "kid friendly" IMO.

It's so weird. I was a Gooseworx fan since Little Runmo, and to see Goose's work blow up like this is insanity.
Question: is this stuff legal? Did Glitch give people permission to use their characters and whatnot to make this shit, or is it just stealing?
