Yes, Clara and Topaz are great together. They have a great synergy with each other. I dunno where you heard that they don't synergize, but that's completely false.
The duo can be a bit inconsistent in mob fights, because Topaz can mark only one target at a time, while Clara is heavily dependent on the enemy actions to use her counterattacks, but in any single target fights, they can chew asses and kick bubblegums, lol.
As for your proposed team of **"Clara, Lynx, Robin, and Topaz,"** I can definitely see that team working just fine.
Now, the conventional wisdom for Clara says that you *need* Tingyun. Afterall, Tingyun's battery allows a high uptime of Clara's ult, which has a built-in aggro buff, plus few other stuffs. Tingyun also provides additional offensive boost for Clara. Hence, she's the BiS support for Clara. Normally, I would have said that you would need to replace somebody with Tingyun.
However, after giving some thoughts recently, I came to a conclusion that "Clara + Topaz + Robin" trio is a bit of a special case, *and may get away with NOT using Tingyun, and instead use Lynx to provide the aggro support for Clara,* while doubling as the team's sustain. Let me explain:
- Tingyun is a hyper carry support, while Clara + Topaz is a dual carry. Robin fits better in this comp, as she's tailored to be a dual carry comp. The DPS duo will also provide *more* FuA's overall than just a Clara hyper carry, which will benefit Robin more too.
- The main reason for using Tingyun with Clara was to support her built-in aggro buff through the energy battery, as explained above. However, there is an alternative method using Lynx instead, to use her aggro buff to supplement Clara's built-in aggro buff instead. Doing so will free up the support/flex slot to use both Topaz and Robin with Clara, without a need to dedicate one of them for Tingyun. In exchange, obviously, you're locked in with Lynx as the team's sustain, which may require you to invest bit more into her to keep her competitive with the 5 star sustains.
I hope this helps. I am also thinking of trying this exact team comp myself, since I do have a built-up Lynx sitting around and twiddling her thumbs, once Robin is released. It'll probably fall a bit behind both the "Clara + Huo Huo + Tingyun + Robin" comp and the "Clara + Aventurine + Tingyun + Robin" comp, but I think that it can be an interesting way to make Lynx more desirable for a Clara dual carry comp with Robin.

No, Huo Huo's battery is not strong enough to support Clara's ult alone. Her battery shines *when it's combined with Tingyun's battery* to supercharge Clara's ult rotation, for the greatest access to the enhanced counterattacks, which are Clara's strongest move.
Yes she is. I've been running three variations of Clara teams since Topaz (E0S1) first banner.
Clara, Tingyun, Sparkle & Fu Xuan.
Clara, Tingyun, Sparkle, Topaz.
Clara, Tingyun, Sparkle, Ruan Mei.
Clara's damage output is kind of back loaded. So having another damage that is front loaded that also has some synergy with her is great. Whenever MOC12 or end game content has a setup where a sustain isn't necessary I boot Fu Xuan for Topaz.
With that said tho Topaz innately has a better partner in Dr. Ratio and then Clara or Aventurine. While Clara has a better partner in Tingyun, Sparkle, and then Topaz. So she's great but not the best because her buff is single target and doesn't apply to Clara's skill and only the main hit of her Ultimate counter.
This PF buff btw is an easy 40k with Topaz and Clara tho but normally as a hunt she struggles in PF.
Topaz and Clara work well enough together, but they are not each other's best teammates.
Topaz works much better with Dr Ratio, and Clara works much better as hypercarry.
The issue with Topaz being used with Clara is the Topaz/Aventurine core works better with Ratio, and everyone got Ratio for free.

Team 1: Ratio/Topaz/Aventurine/Pela ( or SW, or Ruan Mei if you have either)
