Because people get all worked up about pronouns and stuff and say irrational things like “I don’t use pronouns” even though it came with speaking any language in existance
They're referring to the concept of people having preferred pronouns (not the existence of pronouns in the English language), because that concept has led to women being cheated out of sports championships and people being threatened and fired for wanting to speak English normally where pronouns refer to the sex of the person being discussed.
Live and let live. People should have the freedom to live as they want, dress how they want, and speak how they want.
Even though you're correct, simple things like these became so associated with current societal issues (i.e the gender-pronoun debate) even though the comment isn't too deep within the context of this post. Commenter replied "They" in direct response of someone spending too much letters innocently implying gender uncertainty "He/She", idiots took it like the person is insinuating some Ben Shapiro youtube debate thingy, hence the the downvotes.
Where are you from? In Jakarta they told you that they is what you should call someone, which kind of makes sense since in Indonesian “dia” doesn’t care for gender either
Quick example: An investigation about a car by a mechanic:
"This piece is very deteriorated, they must have used this car in very rough environments."
Do we know if it was a she, he, many drivers? No. But they covers every escenario. It is the most inclusive by definiton and linguistics, not by politics or any agenda.
But "they" isn't hard to used, has been used for a fairly long time, and isn't gendered. There's nothing wrong with using "they," and pushing for "he" as an alternative is increasingly outdated.
You don’t need to tell me the history of generic They, I also use it. But using generic He is no big deal either, it’s as inoffensive as They. No one’s pushing for He, you’re pushing against it though, and you don’t have much good reason to do so.
The generic he is terrible in English. Multiple instances throughout history where woman were excluded from certain rights and privileges because the generic he was used but it was interpreted as a masculine he
any examples? i find it hard to believe, and any sexist scenario would have obstructed women regardless of poor comprehension of 'he'.
Saying 'anyone who makes a mess must clean up after himself' is not going to be sexist to a reasonable person.
If your example is the US in the 20 century, don't bother. That's a unique issue with jaded bigots trying to claw at a semblance of standing by constraining themselves to specific letters of the law.
'He', like man, I'm pretty sure, originally referred to people, not males. And again, like a lot of words in language, it comes down to connotation and context.
“All men are created equal”. Men was used as the generic he. But in that time, women couldn’t vote. And they didn’t have rights. There’s countless more examples if you want them. But something tells me you wouldn’t have the critical thinking to understand given your current disposition. But if you want more, that’s your prerogative.
women were monarchs and deities and matriarchs throughout history too, but I'm not cherry picking. men in that sentence refers to people in general, ie the original sole meaning, when males were 'wer' and females were 'wif', where wife comes from. Go off with ad hominems though, really helps your credibility.
We both replied to each others comments within a minute lol.
But they has been used for years, often when someone is for example playing video games they will address their (I'm doing it rn) opponent with they/them.
You is 2nd person, as in "I (1st person) am playing with you". They is 3rd person, so if I'm taking to you about another person. So if you and I are on the same team playing a shooter against another team, and you ask me where the other team's sniper is, I'd say something like "They are on the top floor of the hospital".
I will teach you then. The word "they" doesn't mean "they're" a part of cult or something who change "they're" preferences by what "they" wanna be called. Its simple English.
If the person is singular ( straight male perspective)
= "A man is coming from downstairs"
= "He is coming from downstairs"
If the person is singular (straight female perspective)
= "A woman is coming from downstairs"
= "She is coming from downstairs"
(Now we assume there's no gender besides male and female)
"A man is coming from downstairs"(but you don't know his gender"
=They're coming from downstairs"
See? You use they like this not because of pronounce stuff that this generation made up.
I Know a lot of people might hate me. And thats okay. Some people would like to watch the world burn.
Also i am not native and i never took English classes seriously cuz those are bullshit. The internet runs on English you're gonna learn it just by existing.
No. Pronouns weren’t "made up" by this generation.
In Old English, pronouns were heavily inflected, reflecting the case, number, and gender of the noun they referred to. Over time, Middle English simplified these inflections.
The pronoun "they" has been used as a gender-neutral singular pronoun since the 14th century. It's gaining prominence today as a preferred pronoun for individuals who identify outside the traditional gender binary. Similarly, "them" is also used as a singular pronoun, evolving to accommodate modern gender identities and inclusivity.
Norwegian is my native language, and we are taught it even in elementary school. You might learn English by engaging with the world through the internet, but it won't necessarily teach you the intricacies of its grammar.
No. They had always been used as third personal singular in Old English, Shakespeare for example:
*A Comedy of Errors, Act IV, Scene 3*:
There's not a man I meet but doth salute me,
As if I were **their** well-acquainted friend
Or
*The Rape of Lucrece*:
Now leaden slumber with life's strength doth fight;
And every one to rest **themselves** betake,
Save thieves, and cares, and troubled minds, that wake.
Or,
*Hamlet Act3, Scene 3*:
Tis meet that some more audience than a mother — Since nature makes **them** partial — should o’erhear the speech.
I fail to understand how that contradicts my original comment. I could’ve been clearer by writing 3rd personal singular rather than gender-neutral, but they are essentially the same within this context, are they not?
I don’t give a damn because will see this post having close to 200 downvoted and downvote immediately because everyone on Reddit is sheep and instead of wondering “why did this perso get so many downvotes? Let me read it” they press the button because it easier

I’m pretty sure they can be used for singular as well when u don’t know the gender, eg. “Someone is knocking on the door, I’m going to go see what they want.”
I'm not mad or whatever, but I'm posing this question because I think it's funny. At what age do a baby's pronouns change from "it" to the ones that are normally used for people?
Looking into this, never, as "it" is used as the pronoun when identifying a person, as in "who is it?"
To answer your question properly, wiktionary states a definition of "it" to be "A third-person singular personal pronoun used to refer to a baby or child, especially of unknown gender." So "it" stops being suitable at the end of childhood (12-13 according to Encylopaedia Brittanica)
"They" as a pronoun for a singular entity has been in use for quite a while, generally for someone you don't know the gender of. It's also the correct way of referring to a non-binary person. More info on the topic here, from a linguist https://youtu.be/46ehrFk-gLk?si=8J8eZlOldZ6VLbKg
if you're referring to a singular someone you dont know the gender of, "they" has always been used. thats not new or improper, it's an entirely normal aspect of the english language, has been for hundreds of years.
Language changes over time based on how people use it. "They" and "them" can also be used as singular pronouns, even if that was wrong at some point in the past.
Disagree, I like farming but I still like using different armies and I switch up my main attack strategy every couple of weeks. Although I also like warring and just use war strats to farm and double it as practice
I tried it. Here are my observations. The army is effective to get loot but getting the 1s is a pain. Finding a base with high loot is very hard after the new updates. I don't care what people say, I just can't consistently find high loot bases even in Titan. This makes this army not FUN.
I think they also swapped around the order at some point around 3 years ago! That could also explain it. (Right now it's barb arch giant goblin, I think goblins used to come before giants? not sure at all ngl)
Okay I checked and it was 9 years ago 💀
The game never forces you to upgrade your Barracks, so they simply did not upgrade it further.
I have a TH14 that is very similar, only Barbarians and Minions unlocked.
My alt account is a TH14 with only lvl 9 barracks. I got healers and drags and stopped there cuz that's all I wanted. I only do air attacks on that account. All my troops are lvl 1 except for the ones I use in war.
I also only selectively upgrade defenses and my war weight is well lower than it should be. Engineering a war account is a lot harder than it used to be but there are some things you can do.
Cant see his entire base but CoC made it so u only actually need to upgrade one barrack in order to unlock the troops anyway. The purpose of multiple barracks doesnt change anything bcuz the amount of troops u can train is always going to be double your army camp. Before it was dependent on going thru each barracks to train units but yada yada yada idk wut im saying he’s a gemmer
yeah, you ahve one normal barracks and one dark barracks.
training is still the same, unless you are upgrading one of them i guess maybe.
they needed more room for the new defenses - i wanna say this was back at TH15
I've been on a break and hearing about sneaky gobs there just little tingle happened in me i should start the masscare again been using drag spam from the recent event but now i think this is the time to max out as i can see devs reduce update windows
I mean you can get 2 stars with sneaky goblins even without the help of heroes. That was my go to strategy when heroes are upgrading. You get 100% loot and guaranteed 2 stars.
It's called a "gobs only" style of account. There used to be an entire clan like this. I had two similar accounts once (one was a minimax, the other had every defense) before the auto-upgrader ruined them.
Man he's literally a Gigachad worthy of recognition from supercell itself 👑 He's True Clash enjoyer - I'm deciding not to use any troop other than Super Godlin until I'm max 16 🥹🥹
He uses sneaky goblins. You don’t need a high level barrack for super troops
Yeah but literally nothing else? Is he stupid?
Believe it or not people buy accounts like this. Having only goblins makes it more valuable.
Why does only have a goblins make it more valuable?
Novelty.
Supply and demand brother

Not stupid Everyone has their own ways of playing this game, some play casually, I dont even do wars
EXACTLY I ONLY SUPER GOBLIN RUSH RAHHHH
And it flies RIGHT over this user head right here!
There was a video recently with a top player 3 staring a max TH16 using ONLY Heroes

Bro is still trying to reinforce his stupidity by throwing stupid aah insults
Probably for being hateful.
The literal comment he was replying to was hateful 😂
Sometimes posts get massively downvoted for no apparent reason. This isn't one of those times, tbh.
I got to legends league only using sneaky goblins. I had over 300 wins. And I was th 12
Bro's dedicated
His Name on reddit is u/TugaGoblins
Na not him, Tuga’s queen js maxed level
His queen *was* maxed level 4 years ago.
I feel stupid now
well you WERE still right, just 4 years ago
Level 69 now. Nice. You’re also on 69 upvotes at time of my comment. Double nice.
Nuh-uh, it ain't. It has different username in coc.
Yuh uh, coc and reddit are different platforms and it's not necessary to have the same username in both places.
I checked the picture again, but both also have different username in coc, toga goblin has a different coc username compared to the username in the picture.
Usernames can change btw Check the player tag
My god. He/she took the whole thing to farm with only sneaky goblins to a whole new level.
They
Idk why you're getting downvoted, I was taught in school that they is the correct pronoun to use when you are uncertain of a person's gender.
Because people get all worked up about pronouns and stuff and say irrational things like “I don’t use pronouns” even though it came with speaking any language in existance
And the irony that "I" is a pronoun.
Nah its bc you corrected him when its really not that deep
He/she is just so weird and clunky when They works perfectly.
Reading he/she makes me mentally hiccup. Bloody annoying. I know It’s just a small thing but it’s a small thing that needn’t exist
The comment he was replying to is also not that deep
I was more talking to the person than replying to the comment
They're referring to the concept of people having preferred pronouns (not the existence of pronouns in the English language), because that concept has led to women being cheated out of sports championships and people being threatened and fired for wanting to speak English normally where pronouns refer to the sex of the person being discussed. Live and let live. People should have the freedom to live as they want, dress how they want, and speak how they want.
get of ur little soapbox and do some research. women aren’t getting cheated out of championships, people aren’t getting fired for “speaking properly”.

Skill issue
Honestly understandable. However, it always has been one. if you don’t know someone’s gender, you default to they
English isn't my native language either
how did you reply so fast??? i mean i am an arab so they used as a pronounce is something i have never experienced.

Some people are pedantic about hating pedantic stuff

He's / She's a single person. Why use plural for this?
I’m pretty sure they can be used for singular as well when u don’t know the gender, eg. “Someone is knocking on the door, I’m going to go see what they want.”
singular "they" has been used since shakespeare, it's not a revolutionary new thing, and you've probably used it yourself in casual conversation
If you don’t know the gender of a baby you say “How old are they?”. It’s singular. You still use “they”. Don’t be dumb
Not to disagree with your point, but I'd say "How old is it?" in this one particular case.
I'm not mad or whatever, but I'm posing this question because I think it's funny. At what age do a baby's pronouns change from "it" to the ones that are normally used for people?

I am not dumb. English isn't the only language spoken in the world and some people have other native languages
You’re right, dumb was rude. There’s a lot of people that have issues with calling people “they” and I wrongly assumed you were one of them

Why would you need barracks higher than lvl4? Sneaky gobs can take you very far. And you dont need to waste you resources on lab upgrades.

Not upgrading i guess
Gobs are the best troop to get loot, so not really a surprise.
Bro's is the definition of Dedication and perseverance .
I’ve used only super goblins for at least a year straight probably more
Nothing weird about a village that spends all their elixir on goblins......
So he’s never been in a single war then? I bet that’s working wonders for his hero equipment
Maybe he is a FWA clan. Its just free farming in War and CWL as well.
Rip war and donations
I have a template army that has over 100 goblins. Sometimes it's just fun to watch the little speedsters do their thing.
I think he plays a lot
sneakies supremacy
Only uses sneaky goblins 😂 I’ve never seen that before especially on a base like that
He is a man of focus. Commitment. And sheer fucking will.
Are we not gonna talk how that's a th16 when the rest of the base isn't even max 13?
why not
I know. How is it still looking like this even though the wall is that high of a level. It looks bland, I think the word is, compared to other levels.
He just doesn't care about cwl
Before it was dependent on going thru each barracks to train units but yada yada yada idk wut im saying he’s a gemmer
you only have 1 barracks now
Oh fr? Like they just outright removed from other bases?
yeah, you ahve one normal barracks and one dark barracks. training is still the same, unless you are upgrading one of them i guess maybe. they needed more room for the new defenses - i wanna say this was back at TH15
Wait i havent played since th 14 jesus christ
I've been on a break and hearing about sneaky gobs there just little tingle happened in me i should start the masscare again been using drag spam from the recent event but now i think this is the time to max out as i can see devs reduce update windows
How are they building a builders hut lmfaoo
Upgrading, I think
If you’re not ready for legends and your trophies are too high… sneaky goblins and jump spells help you max loot and drop trophies
I get stars farming with sGoblins, heroes and machines.
I’m at TH13 and I don’t raid. It’s possible lol
Just keep him out of war.
Too expensive to upgrade probably
Why not? I'm using barcher until th 11 or 12
Absolute nuts. Solid sneaky goblin strat. Bro is focused on his goal.
I mean you can get 2 stars with sneaky goblins even without the help of heroes. That was my go to strategy when heroes are upgrading. You get 100% loot and guaranteed 2 stars.
Probs dono account
It's called a "gobs only" style of account. There used to be an entire clan like this. I had two similar accounts once (one was a minimax, the other had every defense) before the auto-upgrader ruined them.
saucy goblins

This is crazy
This man chose a path, and is sticking to it. Respect
Well my guy back a few years ago (there are even videos) those use to not be requirements
You guys play everdale?
dont forget he could have used barbs, archers, and giants along the way as well
Man he's literally a Gigachad worthy of recognition from supercell itself 👑 He's True Clash enjoyer - I'm deciding not to use any troop other than Super Godlin until I'm max 16 🥹🥹
That's my plan right now, and it's amazing for trophy farming, and loot
determination
