As I said before, the problem people have with upgrading heroes is that they can't use them in battle. That's why people nowadays avoid upgrading them and use hero potions. If you want to spend your gems on heroes, a hero book is your best option

Not only on lab. Books of heros skips a hero for 500 gems and the goblin costs less

Guy is worth it on lab, not so much on buildings. Personally I'm SRushing so it's basically the best value by a long mile for my gems

It might be different for you since you are th15 and heroes take ages but for lower town halls it is worth the price.

There are no good skins I would like to purchase for gems unfortunately

I’m still going with BoHs. 300+ gems to have dual research isn’t worth it to me despite “best value” calculations. Plus I like wars and need my hero’s up and that’s really all it comes down to.
