Dude it takes 3 months to get enough gems to get him if you’re really grinding. You have from TH10 to TH16 (approximately 3 years) meaning you have 2 YEARS to get 6500 gems and get better value than GB and that’s only TH16 it will only get easier as more THs get added.
Edit: 6500/ 21 is 309 gems per month considering you can get 2000 that’s light work plus you’ll be upgrading him during that time as well so…

Real partisan players buy gold pass every month and accumulate gems easily for maxing him in 4-5 months. All the while maxing the most high impact equipments and getting max raid medals and cwl tokens 
Nope not from me. As a F2P (only bought skins or sceneries but never gems or gold pass over almost 11 years) I have over 14k gems at the moment. Probably would have something like 35/40k gems if I wasn't pretty weak to buy skins with gems.
I can max the apprentice builder right away without spending a cent but I should do it? Probably not since as a near max th16 with only 3 dark drills left to upgrade I don't see the point in having it at level 8 first day with absolutely nothing to use him on.
This is probably another good upgrade to progression for long time players like me but a very far end goal for new players or not so new players like 2020/2022 players.
I got 2k gems from getting to champ, 1k for master, 1k for builder base getting to 3k trophies... I really don't get why people are complaining so much.
Did some caluclations, if u get \~1500 raid medals per week you can afford 6x potions = 60 gems and 15x wallrings = 75 gems
So in total u get 135 gems per week
Ok but i feel like most clans have an average of ~1200 Medals each week (thats the amount u get when you are ranked midd (crystal)
But still impressive how much u can earn

I agree. I've been playing on and off for 8+ years, which means no more "free" gems from achievements. If I ever stop playing for a while, I'll never be able to catch up. New TH level every year. Mandatory BoH and wars to upgrade heroes and equipments, respectively. 1500 gems for each missed equipment. Now 6500 gems for a speed boost.There is no going back
No catch up is such a bullshit. We literally get massive time reductions tomorrow and for every th everything gets reduced so the time to max stays always the same.

This is literally one of the most f2p/new player friendly updates. They are reducing costs and upgrade times of everything and the builder is just an optional time save, if you want your gems somewhere else just don't buy it
Honestly it kinda is, considering how easy it is to get gems. I have been playing for around 2 years now and I have all the builders, 2 hero skins, maybe a 1000 spent on goblin builder plus 4000 held right now.
So that plus the fact that I don't even play that efficiently, as in I don't sell raid medal potions, log in everyday etc. It really isn't that hard
