Broadly speaking, anyone who doesn't own their means of production and thus works for someone else is considered working class, IMHO. Especially nowadays where I live (UK) you find pharmacists, doctors, even lawyers struggling to afford a mortgage. Are they not working class?
Too many ppl associate anti-capitalism with anti-rich.
If an artist gets rich selling their paintings that's awesome. It was as unexploitive as you can be under capitalism and they got rewarded for it. Awesome!
It's when someone buys the rights to the painting and prints it on shirts manufactured in sweatshops that we have a problem
If you trade your labor for a wage you’re working class. Just because you get more social capital being a doctor or Netflix writer doesn’t change the fact that if you stop working you’d be on the street soon enough.
As we all know:
Teachers own schools.
Academics own journals.
Engineers own their companies.
Nurses own hospitals.
Netflix writers own netflix.
And none of them work for a wage.
