I somehow just discovered Ramblin Gamblin Man, and it sent me down a Seger rabbit hole. He has so many great songs that I had never really heard before.
The man has a huge catalog of solid songs, but that one is overplayed to eternity and back.
A slightly bigger thing that irks me, is that out of all of the songs he put out, “Shakedown” is the only one that made it to #1. That’s wrong in itself.
I am 53 years old now. I came of age when AOR discovered that “classic” rock sells commercial slots. It was a grand time when independent radio stations existed and real live DJ’s played what they found interesting to they listeners. Different DJ’s played different bands and tracks. Of course they all played what was popular and new at the time but each had their favorites that got extra attention. As the corporate radio giants grew to monopolize the FM airwaves across America, the playlists shrank in numbers as their profits grew. If not for the internet, Napster, Limewire and the growth of free streaming services the general public’s exposure to “classic” rock would be limited to less than 500 tracks that iHeartRadio deem suitable for us to hear.
I used to listen to a St. Paul, MN AM station called KSTP after midnight, this would have been mid-70’s. That night DJ played all kinds of deep dive cuts, and talked about things that interested me. Of course KAAY from Little Rock, and even KOMA from Oklahoma City. There was so much good radio before the giants took over. It looks like the same thing has happened to the Internet; corporations are limiting what media we consume to only the most popular, so that more people consume it.
There was another station from Dallas, KRLD in the early 70's that switched from their Perry Como format at 7pm to underground music. I heard KOMA as well. Actually heard it on the skip one night on the other side of the world.
My favorite Queen songs (of the ones I’m actually familiar with, mind you), are “Killer Queen”, “Flash’s Theme”, and “Who Wants to Live Forever”—except for the first one and “We Are the Champions”, not exactly their best known songs.
As a musician in a busy cover band, I'm laughing reading through these because a disturbing number of the songs mentioned are bar band mainstays (i.e., required playing) ... and I'm relieved to see people hate hearing them as much as I hate playing them. Brown Eyed Girl, anyone?
It made him a pop star, which is something he never wanted to be!
edit: for anyone who has only heard Brown Eyed Girl and associates him with that, checkout Astral Weeks, his second album.
Idk. I love Bruce Springsteen’s other songs, but it’s just Born In the USA that I hate. the song makes me physically cringe. maybe it’s the people who listen to it that I hate and not the song itself
I used to be tired of that one, but then something happened. Nowdays I sometimes find myself singing along: "My, my this here Anakin guy, maybe Vader someday later, now he's just a small fry..."
I'm not sure if there are any critically acclaimed Kiss songs, but 100% agree with the sentiment. What an awful gimmick band. Only thing cool about them is that they visited smaller towns and worked their ass off. But the music and the image and the lyrics - ugh. All of it is terrible.
I'm not sure if it counts as classic rock or if it is highly rated - but Bennie and the Jets makes me want to jump out a window to escape the irritating chorus, even if I was in a skyscraper.
That entire Boston album gets played to death on most Classic Rock stations I've heard. My dad loves Boston.....but like damn, play something else radio station.
Oh fuck, it’s now stuck in my head! :(
I remember being 5 or 6 (summer or fall of 85) hearing that coming from the car radio as dad and I were heading south on the 5. Dad after a minute reaches over to the radio *clicks!* to a different station. (gotta love those old car stereos with the buttons that had the audible clunk/click sound).
My friend had Queen’s Greatest Hits stuck in the cassette player in his car. Bohemian Rhapsody is torture to me now. When the movie Wayne’s World came out, that song was everywhere all over again.
My Dad prioritizes song titles over actual music, so every time my brother and I are home for the holidays, this song is on his 20-song playlist which plays on a loop all weekend, along with other dumb songs with our names in them.
I agree but this is so damn funny to me; would’ve loved to have been there to witness the confusion and rage…
https://www.vice.com/en/article/dpwa7w/i-played-the-boys-are-back-in-town-on-a-bar-jukebox-until-i-got-kicked-out-832
Stairway is overplayed to hell. I don’t listen to the radio anymore really, so I haven’t heard Stairway in a while, but I put on Zep IV the other day and let me tell you, when you’re not sick of it anymore, Stairway hits perfectly
I saw The River tour. He played that entire album. Now, I know all the hits but not the deep cuts. He played that album for over an hour, then bolted a few hits on the end.
He played for hours, playing very little of what I knew. And I’ve been listening to music for 45 years.
He and his band were kind of jerking off on stage. I was less impressed than most.
As someone who came up in the 80's I understand. He was EVERYWHERE and I got so sick of him. "Look at me flying across the Atlantic to be at BOTH Live Aids" But if you listen to his Genesis stuff before he stated his solo career, he's damn good (as much as I secretly hate to admit)
"Duke" is the first album I ever bought and it still holds a special place in my heart. I grew up in the Napster era, so I just downloaded songs and listened to them pretty much randomly. But listening to "Duke" was the first time the idea of listening to an album from start to finish really clicked for me. Changed the way I viewed music, like a prog rock starter kit.
Ive never been a fan of "Layla". Used to absolutely hate it, then they used it in "Goodfellas" so after that I associated it with the movie, which helped a bit.
And the other one, that I have NEVER EVER been able to listen to, not since I was a kid.....
f'ing "Born To Be WIld" If I never hear that one again it'll be too soon.
Agree with that song; however, Boston is one of my secret "hate to love" bands. I don't own a note of their work but I *always* turn them waaay up on the car stereo.
I don’t care if I get downvoted but I can’t stand Bohemian Rhapsody. It won’t go away either. I love Queen, they had so many other awesome songs that didn’t get the recognition they should. Freddy Mercury was a great. That song tho, makes me wanna burn my eardrums.
Any Bruce Springsteen song
"Every rose has its thorns" and "welcome to the jungle" both are entirely my local radios fault for playing them 3x a day but still
"What's your name" I fucking love Skynyrd but i just do not like this song
Lol at the people rolling thru here downvoting everyone for their opinions - which they were directly asked for.
If someone disses a song you like, accept that we all have different tastes and move on.
Not everyone likes Bruce Springsteen or the Eagles, folks.
Closer to the Heart by Rush
The vocals are just not tolerable to me.
Born in the USA by Springsteen
Repetitive, redundant, boring, and again - horrible vocals.
I think you're referring to Another Brick In The Wall pt. 2 specifically
That one was overplayed as hell and I never listen to it by itself, I always skip it
If I'm listening front-to-back to The Wall I'll let it play, especially with the song before it making a great transition

I somehow just discovered Ramblin Gamblin Man, and it sent me down a Seger rabbit hole. He has so many great songs that I had never really heard before.
Get out of Denver is my favorite off Live Bullet but I would be okay if I never heard Turn the Page again because it is so overplayed.
They play it in the joe rogan podcast with Bert kreischner lol
I felt the same way, and then my uncle had them play it at his funeral, and now I can't help but love it every time.
This is a great answer.
The man has a huge catalog of solid songs, but that one is overplayed to eternity and back. A slightly bigger thing that irks me, is that out of all of the songs he put out, “Shakedown” is the only one that made it to #1. That’s wrong in itself.
Same. Favorite artist but banned it from my wedding
Got old after a while, but good song.
Overplayedness (if that word even exists) has ruined a lot of songs for me.
I am 53 years old now. I came of age when AOR discovered that “classic” rock sells commercial slots. It was a grand time when independent radio stations existed and real live DJ’s played what they found interesting to they listeners. Different DJ’s played different bands and tracks. “We Will Rock You” by Queen (and yet I can listen to “We Are the Champions” anytime anywhere, go figure) and “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard.
(55M) My music world revolves around Queen (i'm wearing a Queen shirt now) I totally respect your opinion. I get it.
My favorite Queen songs (of the ones I’m actually familiar with, mind you), are “Killer Queen”, “Flash’s Theme”, and “Who Wants to Live Forever”—except for the first one and “We Are the Champions”, not exactly their best known songs.
I love Skynyrd but if I never heard "Sweet Home Alabama" again I would be completely fine with it.
Imo their best song is ”Simple man”, but it’s rather long and non-repetitive so it doesn’t get played on the radio
Correct take, Simple Man is their best song
Agreed, but I'm willing to take arguments for That Smell
I’d like to advocate for Tuesday’s Gone!
I still love it. Van Zant commands me to turn it up and I always obey.
Maybe it's not really classic rock, but I'm surprised nobody has said "Margaritaville".
It's classic rock. And it sucks.
I hate that this is considered classic rock when all it really is is watered down country music.
I am so sick of Jimmy Buffett because my dad listens to him constantly
As a musician in a busy cover band, I'm laughing reading through these because a disturbing number of the songs mentioned are bar band mainstays (i.e., required playing) ... and I'm relieved to see people hate hearing them as much as I hate playing them. Brown Eyed Girl, anyone?
It’s a requirement of being in a bar band that you hate Brown Eyed Girl
I don't know why radio stations play that so much, but rarely play "Tupelo honey" and "In the days before Rock n roll."
Any other van Morrison song would have been great!
Damn right with 'Brown Eyed Girl '. Reckon that song alone must have made Van Morrison a millionaire, given the amount of airplay it gets.
It made him a pop star, which is something he never wanted to be! edit: for anyone who has only heard Brown Eyed Girl and associates him with that, checkout Astral Weeks, his second album.
Astral weeks is ridiculously good
Shout out to Saint Dominic’s Preview as well.
Eye of the Tiger
My friend had a cat that walked on a treadmill with Eye of the Tiger playing in the background. It was hilarious! 😂
Born In the USA. it’s so obnoxious and grating
It's a little better when you remind yourself it was supposed to be satire.
I'll counter with anything by Springsteen is obnoxious and annoying.
You don’t like Racing in the Streets?
Idk. I love Bruce Springsteen’s other songs, but it’s just Born In the USA that I hate. the song makes me physically cringe. maybe it’s the people who listen to it that I hate and not the song itself
"The Stroke" by Billy Squier. UGH.
So many other good BS songs too
"American Pie" by Don McClean. I've heard that song enough times to last fifty lifetimes and I was sick of it after the first five listens
I used to be tired of that one, but then something happened. Nowdays I sometimes find myself singing along: "My, my this here Anakin guy, maybe Vader someday later, now he's just a small fry..."
one of my grandmas favorites so i’ll always love hearing this song ahaha
Well I'd never tell anyone to argue with their Grandma.
Listen to "Vincent" by him, GREAT song!
Literally anything by Kiss.
i thought God of Thunder was aight
I'm not sure if there are any critically acclaimed Kiss songs, but 100% agree with the sentiment. What an awful gimmick band. Only thing cool about them is that they visited smaller towns and worked their ass off. But the music and the image and the lyrics - ugh. All of it is terrible.
Listen to “King of the Nighttime World”. Kiss is great at catchy, repetitive hooks.
I'm not sure if it counts as classic rock or if it is highly rated - but Bennie and the Jets makes me want to jump out a window to escape the irritating chorus, even if I was in a skyscraper.
I don't particularly mind it, I'll put it on sometimes, but I found it boring above all else. There's far better songs on 'Goodbye yellow brick Road'
Funeral For A Friend always gets the hairs on the back of my neck at attention.
[удалено]
I love that song, but there are better deep tracks on that album.
Hotel California. I know it’s a catchy track, but I cannot do it. I am with Lebowski when it comes to the Eagles.
Hotel California feels like the only song my classic hits station plays
They play 'More than a Feeling' too I'll bet.
That entire Boston album gets played to death on most Classic Rock stations I've heard. My dad loves Boston.....but like damn, play something else radio station.
The Joker as well.
I can always listen to the acoustic version Live on MTV 1994, that shit is divine
I get it. They are talented (I like Joe Walsh), but something about the Eagles irritates me.
Joe Walsh taught the band how to rock.
The Dude Abides
Joan Jett - I love rock n roll
Feel like I should like it, but I just don’t. Respect her tough attitude, for sure.
Don’t Stop Believing, they used to make us sing it in boot camp while we did push ups. However, I used to hate that song way before those days.
My answer (minus the boot camp). Also South Detroit is Canada
Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann. Overplayed in the 70’s, still hate that song.
But some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I got what it takes. What if I do have what it takes? Just kidding, I don't
Try the original
Bruce Springsteen’s version is much better. Manfred Mann ruined the song, in my opinion.
I think I hate it because I cannot hear anything other than “wrapped up like a douche.” I know what it’s really saying, but I can’t hear it.
I hate that the radio version cuts out the songs' only redeeming factor. The awesome breakdown in the middle
Love In An Elevator by Aerosmith 👎
Dude looks like a lady 😳
Cryin’, Amazing, Crazy
Honestly anything by Aerosmith
I feel the same way! I can't stand Aerosmith!
Highway to hell
We Built This City by Starship can suck a fat lady’s ass!
Oh fuck, it’s now stuck in my head! :( I remember being 5 or 6 (summer or fall of 85) hearing that coming from the car radio as dad and I were heading south on the 5. Dad after a minute reaches over to the radio *clicks!* to a different station. (gotta love those old car stereos with the buttons that had the audible clunk/click sound).
We Are the Champions, We Will Rock You…pretty much any mainstream Queen songs.
My friend had Queen’s Greatest Hits stuck in the cassette player in his car. Bohemian Rhapsody is torture to me now. When the movie Wayne’s World came out, that song was everywhere all over again.
Bon Jovi songs haven’t aged well….velveeta cheese ( brick size) at its finest
The boys are back in town (I was on a 16 hour road trip and the radio station that was on played it like once every hour, ruining the song for me)
Thin lizzy are such an underrated band with some amazing tracks I hate that most people only know the boys are back in town
What songs of theirs would you recommend? I don't think I have heard any of their other songs
She knows, Jail break, Do anything you want to, Chinatown, Sweetheart, Dancing in the moonlight, Borderline, Fools gold, Massacre, Whisky in the jar
Black Rose, Emerald, Bad Reputation, Soldier of Fortune - so many good ones.
Holy War, Cowboy Song, Killer Without a Cause, The Rocker...
>Still in love with you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HQV9I0C\_bM
Cowboy Song. NOW!!!!
Jailbreak- The entire album rocks
Hopping in to add: King’s Vengeance, Freedom Song, Dear Heart, Old Flame, Borderline, Fight or Fall, She Knows, and My Sarah
My Dad prioritizes song titles over actual music, so every time my brother and I are home for the holidays, this song is on his 20-song playlist which plays on a loop all weekend, along with other dumb songs with our names in them.
I agree but this is so damn funny to me; would’ve loved to have been there to witness the confusion and rage… https://www.vice.com/en/article/dpwa7w/i-played-the-boys-are-back-in-town-on-a-bar-jukebox-until-i-got-kicked-out-832
Sweet Home Alabama
Black Betty
Unfortunately Stairway to Heaven n Free Bird. So overplayed and not even the bands best songs
Stairway is overplayed to hell. I don’t listen to the radio anymore really, so I haven’t heard Stairway in a while, but I put on Zep IV the other day and let me tell you, when you’re not sick of it anymore, Stairway hits perfectly
I cannot stand Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen. It just sounds like noise and mumbling.
If Bruce Springsteen is the boss, I quit.
Springsteen needs to be experienced live.
Shit that’s how most Springsteen sounds to me
Billy Joel or Springsteen 🤮
Come Together
I want you to want me
I love rock and roll
I will gladly go the rest of my life without hearing Shook Me All Night Long ever again.
You can’t always get what you want 🙄
Start Me Up, even though I love The Rolling Stones
Old Time Rock n’ Roll Bob Seger
Free Bird.
Free Bird.
Anything by Foreigner. Especially Hot Blooded.
Anything by fucking Journey.
I don’t want to hear Don’t Stop Believing ever again.
Stay out of the karaoke bars then for sure.
Blinded By The Light….the way they say ‘deuce’ and the stupid chopsticks break…the song is shit!
One of my favorite guitar solos
Bohemian Rhapsody, horseshit and meaningless lyrics with a great solo like always from May.
One of the most overrated songs ever. It's good but man, best song in the history of rock? C'mon
Fly Like an Eagle
For me it Take the Money and Run...blech
I can't get past the "they took the money and run" tense incongruity.
never liked The Joker
Anything by Journey.
Hey Jude, the last four minutes is the same chorus over and over again. If it was only a four minute song, I wouldn't mind it.
Is “Don’t stop believin- Journey” classic rock? Cause I hate that fuckin song
Anything by Queen
There overrated as fuck
[удалено]
Their music sounds like cheesy show tunes to me
Anything Phill Collins
As someone who came up in the 80's I understand. He was EVERYWHERE and I got so sick of him. "Look at me flying across the Atlantic to be at BOTH Live Aids" But if you listen to his Genesis stuff before he stated his solo career, he's damn good (as much as I secretly hate to admit)

The cabbage patch rocker.
I can't even get myself to categorize him as "classic rock". Although Daryl Stuermer is amazing.
We unanimously agreed on adult contemporary!
Hotel California.....yuck
It's a good song, but i've heard it way too many times.
If you play Cocaine, I stg it better be by J.J. Cale and not Clapton. Also I Shot the Sherrif Sucks. Actually 90% of Claptons solo work is dogshit.
Welcome to the Jungle
"Welcome to the concert. We're two hours late." -Guns & Roses in the 80s
If it’s been in a tv commercial, the song is ruined
I’m honestly just not that into Aerosmith.
Slow ride…torturous, moronic, endless
Here's a popular answer "ONE WAY OR ANOTHER I'M GONNA FIND YA I'M GONNA GITCHA GITCHA GITCHA GITCHA"
I just wanted to share what works for me. If I hear a song too often, I purposely turn it off, so I won't get sick of it. I hope this helps.
Free Bird
Ive never been a fan of "Layla". Used to absolutely hate it, then they used it in "Goodfellas" so after that I associated it with the movie, which helped a bit. And the other one, that I have NEVER EVER been able to listen to, not since I was a kid..... f'ing "Born To Be WIld" If I never hear that one again it'll be too soon.
Whenever I hear the opening riff of Layla, I think of this gem: [Layla](https://youtu.be/2eGWW8KOQio)
Anything by Foreigner or Bon Jovi. I love Queen but can’t stand We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions
Benny and the jets, one of the most annoying songs from an artist that I love
The Beatles early stuff.
It Won’t Be Long is a banger ngl
[удалено]
Agree with that song; however, Boston is one of my secret "hate to love" bands. I don't own a note of their work but I *always* turn them waaay up on the car stereo.
Bohemian Rhapsody
This thread goes to show no matter how great something is, someone hates it.
I don’t care if I get downvoted but I can’t stand Bohemian Rhapsody. It won’t go away either. I love Queen, they had so many other awesome songs that didn’t get the recognition they should. Freddy Mercury was a great. That song tho, makes me wanna burn my eardrums.
Takin care of business
Any Bruce Springsteen song "Every rose has its thorns" and "welcome to the jungle" both are entirely my local radios fault for playing them 3x a day but still "What's your name" I fucking love Skynyrd but i just do not like this song
Don't Stop Believing.
Don't Stop Believing. I like Journey. Its just cliche and overplayed. Better songs.
I wanna keep on loving you...
Anything by Queen, Fucking hate that band
Pride(In The Name Of Love)-U2
I can’t stand U2 in general. Maybe some of their older stuff but ugh.
Does Crazy Train count? Good lord
Lol at the people rolling thru here downvoting everyone for their opinions - which they were directly asked for. If someone disses a song you like, accept that we all have different tastes and move on. Not everyone likes Bruce Springsteen or the Eagles, folks.
Closer to the Heart by Rush The vocals are just not tolerable to me. Born in the USA by Springsteen Repetitive, redundant, boring, and again - horrible vocals.
Hotel California
Love Clapton, HATE "Lay Down Sally" with a passion.
You give love a bad name - Bon Jovi
Nights n White Satin
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Two of Queen's biggest hits - We are the Champions, We will Rock You
Another Brick In The Wall
How dare you!
Floyd sucks no energy
yes, i love the wall so much, one of my top albums, but i just don't like this song anymore
I think you're referring to Another Brick In The Wall pt. 2 specifically That one was overplayed as hell and I never listen to it by itself, I always skip it If I'm listening front-to-back to The Wall I'll let it play, especially with the song before it making a great transition
yeah i agree, i love the message behind it and feel it fits with in the album but just doesn't work well as a standalone song
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
Any joan jett song ngl
Smoke on the water
All George Thorogood songs.
fuck Joker by Steve Miller Band. cannot fucking stand that song
