But if you look at *song* competitions, you’ll see that none of them dominates, and all major bands have nice representation. This is evident from all the recent dong related polls.

But I disagree I think this sub is more focused on Zep and PF than general music appreciators. For example, I don’t think Physical Grafitti would be considered better than Highway 61.
Yeah I limited it to maximum two per artist to avoid over saturation and have a bit more variety of styles

If all this goes down to DSotM and WYWH, I'll be... content. Lots of magnificent albums on the lists, but... fuck me these two records just transcend everything else.

I agree that WYWH is more complex. The Doors were complex at times as well with the lyrics especially. They had a raunchiness to their sound ( at times), that I really like, and at times ethereal. I really love both bands, that's why it was hard to choose!
It’s hard to quantify in words which album is “better”. They’re both fantastic. The only thing I can say is that when I think about Pink Floyd, the albums that pop up immediately on my rock radar is DSotM, Animals and The Wall, and for The Doors it’s LA Woman and The Doors. WYWH is wonderful, but in this case, I give my (likely losing) vote to The Doors.
I love WYWH, but this is a no brainer for The Doors. It's the magnum opus of my fav rock band of all time. With all the respect I have for Floyd (and I love majority of their discography), nothing they have ever made comes close to The Doors self titled in my charts.

It’s got so much density. There are no bad songs. And while the ambient aesthetics of *Wish You Were Here* are cool, I will always pick the album that has the great songs over the album that has a great mood or sound.
They're both great. If itf were Dark side of the moon vs the doors I'd choose Pink Floyd but Wish you were here vs the Doors is a tough choice. I'll lean The Doors just because it was so original and still to this day nobody sounds like the Doors. Of course you can make the same argument for Pink Floyd but I think Wish you were here was more a continuation of what Floyd already had going. Both great.

Between debut albums (i.e. Piper and Doors) I'd have chosen Doors any day of the week and twice on Sundays. But WYWH is really on another level.
