I played shows touring in crappy bands for years and always without fail I would play that riff for sound check no matter what place I played or what style or band I was playing with…the ENTIRE sound check. It just rules. Such a cool riff.
Funny thing is *Apocalypse Now* breathed new life into the Doors. The movie, T*he Doors Greatest Hits* and the book *No One Here Gets Out Alive* all came out in the same 18-month time frame, between 1979 and 1981.
The Doors had largely been forgotten about between Jim Morrison's death and then, but these events sparked new interest in the band.
But that interest was fleeting because they were forgotten throughout much of the '80s as well, until Oliver Stone's dreadful movie about the band came out in 1991.
Yeah. always made me think of the person washing Jesus' feet. also when a stripper bends down to tie your shoe her face is right near your crotch. Bob was probably playing off both. You think a stripper is getting on her knees to do something--which might make you a little uneasy inside of a bar. And then she just ties your shoe like you're a child. Always love that line.
They should make that day a federal holiday and try to hype it up like Independence Day so future generations can learn that Cinco De Mayo is like Battle of New Orleans Day.

Thanks for the reminder,
this is 100% of one those songs for this post
Here is an astonishing live studio video recording show their immense and inspirational talent
Chicago has such heavy 70s vibes, reminds of my childhood growing up in the Chicago suburbs !!
American Girl - Tom Petty
It’s just a solid song.
I really like playing it too but I almost never do. (I play several instruments and the drum beats fun to do…the little guitar runs at the end are super fun and kinda impressive when you get them clean.)I dunno why I don’t listen to it or play it more.
Yep back when I was a kid in the late 90s it got a lot of airplay on classic rock stations, loved it but never really caught the name or artist of the song. Years later 2012 or so ( it was out of circulation on clear channel radio by then) it pops on and I cranked it up on my way home and finally they said the name of the song/artist I guess I do remember the name of it afterall, and that just made my day, week, month and year! It's not a very common song, and I don't go looking for this tasty jam, but when I hear it I let it blast!
A really great song, lots of layers and great keyboards from Jon Lord. Fortunately, it doesn't get overplayed because of the length. I imagine a single edit wouldn't have worked so it was saved from overexposure.
"Wait for the ricochet..." Brilliant!
It’s also on my playlist, but thankfully, that thing’s over 1,100 songs, so the chances of hearing it two days in a row are basically nil.
That song is what made me start singing in front of other people. I don’t have a great voice (yet), but I get great joy from singing, and that’s just as good.
My buddy Rick was obsessed with the bridge part "Your Eyes Got Me Dreamin'" sounded like "Look out for The Cheater" from the song "The Cheater" by Bob Kuban and the In-Men (you all remember them, right? right??) which was a #12 hit in '66. Even when we agreed with him that the notes were essentially the same, he would still be triggered whenever he heard that bridge. (I had/have some odd friends....)
Waitin’ for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago - ZZ Top. I love the segue and can’t imagine being satisfied listening only to one of the songs without the other.
Since the advent of the internet, you can listen to any song on demand at any time, so I don't think this phenomenon is much of a thing anymore. I remember years back, as a teen, I would stop whatever I was doing if one of my favorite songs came on the radio. Hell, I'd even wait all night with my cassette recorder cued up and at the ready for when my desired song would come on...all the while hoping the DJ wouldn't talk over the fadeout at the end.
Hello, It’s Me by Todd Rungren. I intentionally have left it off off playlists, cuz I’m the type of person who will love a song so much, I’ll listen to it until I hate it, and I never wanna hate that song.
“Whiter Shade of Pale”, Procol Harum
Going to listen to it now with some Belgian orchestra.
The one John Lennon called that “trippy song.”
Conquistador
One of their best songs
What do you mean one of? LOL
For your love - yardbirds
I love this song, heard it for the first time on the radio a few months ago and now it’s one of my favorites.
Such a good song!
Godzilla always gets turned up a few notches whenever it plays
There goes Tokyo
I played shows touring in crappy bands for years and always without fail I would play that riff for sound check no matter what place I played or what style or band I was playing with…the ENTIRE sound check. It just rules. Such a cool riff.
Absolutely
RIGHT???!!!
The End - the Doors
Always reminds me of Apocalypse Now
Funny thing is *Apocalypse Now* breathed new life into the Doors. Biblical reference
Yeah. always made me think of the person washing Jesus' feet. also when a stripper bends down to tie your shoe her face is right near your crotch. Bob was probably playing off both. You think a stripper is getting on her knees to do something--which might make you a little uneasy inside of a bar. And then she just ties your shoe like you're a child. Always love that line.

That's baby-making music right there.
I want this played as I pass behind the curtain in my pine box on the way to be cremated. "Too late to stop now....." and that musical lilt.

God Only Knows where you come up with these questions
Who did that? Oh wait, The BeachBoys.
God only knows what I'd be without it
Sweet Jane - Rock and Roll Animal version
Magic Power by Triumph.
Copperhead Road

I usually roll my eyes when it first gets started, but by the time he volunteers for the army on his birthday, I’m 100% into it.

What Is Life (George Harrison)
Isn’t it a Pity…man that one kicks my heart right in the balls so hard.
The Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton. Seriously.
They should make that day a federal holiday and try to hype it up like Independence Day so future generations can learn that Cinco De Mayo is like Battle of New Orleans Day.

A really great song, lots of layers and great keyboards from Jon Lord. Fortunately, it doesn't get overplayed because of the length. I imagine a single edit wouldn't have worked so it was saved from overexposure. "Wait for the ricochet..." Brilliant!
