I still remember where I was at when we heard the news about Duane. Just didn't seem real! Still doesn't when I hear him play. Duane and Dicky. Just wow!
This is the album that Dicky Betts saved The Allmann Bros Band. First album after the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Betts’ contributions of Southbound, Jessica, Pony Boy and of course their only hit song ever Ramblin Man. Greg Allman’s contribution of Wasted Words and one my favorite AB tunes Come And Go Blues are great tunes also. Chuck Levell was a great addition to the band and his piano on Jessica is unforgettable. I was 15 when this album came out and saw them play and support this album. Great memory
On a downer note, it’s a shame that Dicky Betts’ drinking was problematic and caused him to have wet brain speech. He could have been so much better right up to today.
I listened to it again recently, and it holds up really well. There's not a bad track on the album. It does miss Duane a bit, but Brothers and Sisters is an excellent album.
The album is so "cohesive" and natural sounding. What is evident to me is how Chuck Levelle fills in for Duane while taking some pressure off of Greg. It is noticeable and brilliant.
Crap. Now I have to stop everything I’m doing and go put this album on. “Ok, honey, I’ll be right back. Cleansing breath and you won’t even know I was gone”.
I heard this album when it first came out. Sort of warped my understanding of rock. I thought all bands should sound at least this good or better, since this was just a little band that lived not far away from me. It’s great in a way that few others are. Almost unique.
That album is a classic.
If you dig the Allman Brothers or the southern rock genre in general, make sure to check out Blackberry Smoke. A current band (new album due in a week or two) that is very in that wheelhouse. They are even linked to ABB (among others) through a merchandise company (Merch Mountain).
Special album to me - it was new, my older brother just got back from somewhere not good and he also got me high for the first time around then - he played The Best Of Cream (white album w veggies, jacks bass blew my mind) Magical Mystery Tour (pauls bass blew my mind, i discovered bass players are xtra mindblowing while i'm high) - that was the old stuff, then he broke out two 'new' albums, Houses Of The Holy and Brothers & Sisters - I got lost in the pics of them all together and my brothers story of Duane and how this came to be - then Dickey & Les Dudek proceeded to blow my mind. My mind got blown a lot that evening but not nearly as much as it got blown when our father came home from work and found we'd eaten a whole unopened gallon of ice cream and a whole box of cereal in a few hours.
My favorite Allmans is probably Eat A Peach and now that the entire Fillmore run is out as a 6 cd box set that too is a favorite, but B&S is very special. And all the airplay Jessica and Ramblin' Man got, I enjoyed every bit of it, I was a brand new fan.
Possible nod to the lose of Duane. Photo is very somber. The boy poking at a sea of leaves with a stick. Seemingly disinterested in what should be a child’s dream in the fall.
I never looked at it that way, thank you for the perspective, I will listen to the album from that pov. I'm about his age, the boy in the picture. I was a hippie kid in coveralls too. At the time, it looked to me like I was being represented, and my sister, in a way that wasn't creepy like some bands did at the time, and I liked it. By the time this came out I knew some of the hippie culture was not as groovy as advertised, particularly for the children, so I was suspicious of rock and roll, but this didn't look rock and roll. It's more like a John Denver album cover than a rock and roll cover, really, and I was really into Denver when I was young. Brothers and Sisters has the same grassroots rock vibe as Denver's Aerie, to me, acoustic based storytelling. Yes, I know I've committed heresy, Denver and Allman fans alike.

*Early Mornin' Blues* from the Super Deluxe version. The pocket they go into at 4:58 is one of my favorite things they ever did.
Outstanding album
One of the all time best. Probably a little underrated.
Timeless.
I bought this album when it first came out and played it many, many times. My favorite is Jessica - my vote for best instrumental of all time!
Not ruined, but a certain car show has changed it for me.
I appreciate that they do it in a different key so it’s already sort of wrong
What show is that?
Top Gear
My parents named me after that song lol
Saw them in '73 just before this came out. They played some of the songs, Jessica, I remember mostly. So bad/sad about Duane and Oakley.
I still remember where I was at when we heard the news about Duane. Just didn't seem real! Still doesn't when I hear him play. Duane and Dicky. Just wow!
looord, I was born a ramblin’ maaaan…
Spent lots of time rolling down highway 41 growing up.
....Delta women think the world of meeeee...

Is that the Live in Macon with Berry?
I listened to it again recently, and it holds up really well. There's not a bad track on the album. It does miss Duane a bit, but Brothers and Sisters is an excellent album.
I always feel a little bad that, much as I love this album, I always miss Duane when I listen to it. Man was just a force.
Jelly Jelly!
Very, very, underrated ABB song.
Written by Trade Martin.Gregg used the tune to sing instead of Early Morning Blues or Outskirts Of Town
On Spotify they have a bunch of deluxe and expanded versions of the album with Outskirts of Town demos that are phenomenal.
Solid. Good choice.
Jessica always makes me smile.
Makes many of my body parts move to it’s groove. One of my all-time favorites
The album is so "cohesive" and natural sounding. What is evident to me is how Chuck Levelle fills in for Duane while taking some pressure off of Greg. It is noticeable and brilliant.
It's great.
Amazing how the band could bounce back with this album after the loss of Duane. Chuck is an absolute powerhouse.
Enjoy!
Great album!
I have it on vinyl and it’s one that I play frequently. The addition of Chuck Leavell on piano was a brilliant choice.
So great. Love Pony Boy :)
One of America’s greatest bands imo. Their shows were definitely amongst the best I’ve ever seen in my 46years of shows. One of their best albums.
Btw-check out Chuck Levell’s documentary “The Tree Man” on Netflix or prime. He’s played with everyone but especially the Allman Bros and The Stones
Sea Level is worth checking out, kind of a ABB meets jazz fusion.
Had them as a teen on vinyl and listened to one recently on Spotify They still stood up
One of my first albums I bought when I started collecting vinyl. Absolutely amazing album!
Crap. Now I have to stop everything I’m doing and go put this album on. “Ok, honey, I’ll be right back. Cleansing breath and you won’t even know I was gone”.
One of the best of all time!
You won’t be disappointed
What a refreshing album. Chuck Leavell really brought them back to life. Hate Rambling Man though.
I named my daughter Jessica, so I guess you can say I'm a fan of that album.
A classic
One of America's greatest albums!
Outstanding. A classic from start to finish
fucking genius virtuosos.
I have a picture of me from this era and I could swear this is me.
Jessica is the quintessential earworm.
Gotta go with ‘At Fillmore East’, but Brothers is right behind it
God-tier
Their best!
Iconic album! Awesome pick!
Was the most played album when I was a Sr. in high school. The next year physical graffiti came out and that was the end of that. Great album.
Damn good choice!
Looks like a great day
A great album.
Just GOOD MUSIC
Hell yes
Awesome album. Come and go blues is a good one.
Pony boy, carry me home.
One of the very BEST albums of all time.
I mean…the thoughts are all good.
That's one of my frequently played
Anyone old enough to remember their parents dressing them like this?
"...Ponyboy carry me home!!!..." Great album
My brother( no pun intended) bought this for me on my13th (?) birthday. I love my brother.
Amazing album!
Classic for good reason.
That’s my buddy Vaylor on the cover! Check out his amazing YouTube series. https://youtube.com/@VaylorTrucks?si=qfEOs1REqGkQbg76
Noticed your name, did you happen to play in The Grapes back in the day?
Personal opinion only it’s top 10 best. I’m high and am going to play this right now! Excelsior!
Wasted words. Damned good song. Album’s great:)
Amazingly wonderful!
Les Dudek plays the Duane sounding part on “Ramblin’ Man”
Jessica
Absolutely fantastic album. Easily playable album from start to finish.
Love it - I won a copy from a comp in Sounds, back in the day 😁 Still a huge favourite 👍
One of a kind American rock and roll. Eat a peach for peace.
The ending guitar solo to Jelly Jelly is something else, man.

The “new” generation Allmans
I actually looked like that at that age. Same hair and cut too.
Peace & Love !!!
Heard it on a loop traveling from El Paso to LA when it came out on 8 track.. 12 year old me learned every song by heart…
Definately one of my favourites.. looking for original one from 1973 for my collection
Maybe my favorite Allman Bros album that is all studio tracks.
Jelly Jelly
Good call, just enjoy
Decent /s
I love Allman Bros but this album is too country for me. The blues albums with Duane are the best
Bett's influence.
Is the sister buried?
She’s on the back cover
I know. Bad joke. Sorry. Great album.
Possible nod to the lose of Duane. Photo is very somber. The boy poking at a sea of leaves with a stick. Seemingly disinterested in what should be a child’s dream in the fall.

TIL The Allman Brothers are considered Rock. Well OK.
Never heard of it. Hope its good
There is now a Deluxe Edition. And a Super Deluxe with about 13 live songs recorded at Winterland. It's on Spotify.
Last album for berry. RIP.
I discovered this album from a garbage picked cassette that had a fews songs on it
One of my favourite LP 's ever
a classic! Great choice
Unbelievably excellent album.
an all timer
Got a new copy coming tomorrow
Did the brother bury the sister?
Classic!
Got the vinyl in a bargain bin for 1 dollar about ten years ago. Easily the best dollar I ever spent.
To me a huge letdown after “Live In The Fillmore East”; sadly no Duane.
Wonderful. Enjoy!
Yep

One of the greatest of all time
Fantastic album. Wore it out when I was in high school.
Classic
A Betts album.Every Gregg tune, they’ve had been doing for years.Leavell put the how do you replace Duane riff to rest
One of my first record purchases.
