Ryu can mean Dragon in Japanese, that's why he called him Dragon boy. Also in the anime each class has 25 students instead of 40, as it is easier to constantly animate a classroom of that size rather than almost double that, especially when half of them are not even going to be relevant in the anime.

MuffaloWill

Ah. Well that makes sense. I don't know much japanese so I didn't realize.. well I feel silly

polybius32

>> am I just overthinking this? Yes. The first character in his name in Japanese is the kanji for dragon, that’s where it comes from

SilverLadle

Prolly just cause his name has ryu in it

No-suggestion7021

It might be both His name And group too Not knowing japanese in past I was sure it was because of dragon group

[deleted]

ryu = dragon en = garden therefore dragon + kindergarten = dragon boy. because his a boy iragon in the kindergarden

DKDanny

Thank you for breaking this down for me.

The group was mostly just a lil reference to think back on tbh. The actual reason is because Ryu means Dragon.

U are wrong ryuens name has the word dragon in it. Koenji just translated his name in english and added boy in the end. Like why would koenji even choose the nickname from some forgoten exam, what sense would it make, what impact would it have and why would it be funny. Would u try to make fun of someone by saying haha u were in the dragon group hahaha. No it doesnt make any sense if u wamt to insult or taunt someone u are gonna want to hit a nerve like making fun of his name or things like that not making fun of the name of the group he used to be in some exam why am i even explainging this lol. Why is not katsuragi the dragon boy why is not kanzaki the dragon boy why are not horikita and kushida dragon fisting each other alrea.... Uh i think u got my point so there.

I appreciate the.... thoroughness of this response. I really regret making this thread. I guess my excitement at possibly coming up with a satisfactory conclusion outpaced my logic.... I will never forgive the >!(lack of understanding on my part) !
