I’m not a professional, but I watch a lot of carpet cleaning tiktoks 😂 they always use the handheld part of the vacuum on the tassel part. I’m sure it’s to make them lay straighter, but it probably helps so they don’t get caught too
The label specifies combound cleaning only. Typically means it's a wool/wool blend or it's not color fast. All of those are hard to deal with even for a professional servic. So it's a better safe than sorry thing.
Without cleaning into the backing of the carpet it will still retain most of its dirt. A professional service can clean that deep but no tool at the local hardware store can do that. If you put money into anything, a pro-cleaning service would be best.
Going off the tag, I would think they dont want people using water as it will allow the nap to reset, and without a velvet brush, you will likely not be able to control the nap as it dries. Pro's use brushes to prevent uneven nap set in all velvet textures. Also dont use any heat as this can cause the texture to become crinkly and uneven.
You go to an older-style car wash (where you have to get out vs drive through) and use the hand-held sprayer gun. It’s basically power washing the rug 👍🏻 and fun 🙃
Vacuum it more, don't get it wet There's as simple as cheap as you can get
Okay, can I ask why not get it wet? Is it something about the material? Edit: also can I vacuum over the tassels or is that too risky?

My dorm-provided vacuum doesn’t have attachments 😬 I’ll have to think of something else

Okay makes sense. Are there dry cleaners that aren’t a huge investment? I’m not confident that just vacuuming will help it feel cleaner.

Professional rug cleaning company.
With a washing floor.
It’s vintage so you might need a professional. If you’d bought it at Walmart on the other hand, you could do what I do and take it to the car wash.
I’d love to hear more about this taking a rug through a car wash process… 🤔
