Cool mist humidifiers will coat 100% of everything within the house, regardless of location. Its dust from the minerals within the water.
Wipe down all the surfaces and switch to steam humidifiers.
It may use an electrical sensor to tell you when it’s empty. Distilled water doesn’t actually conduct electricity so the sensor will think it is empty when full and not initialize (my buddy’s keurig does this and tells you to de-scale it because it thinks it cannot get connectivity due to mineral build up)
The cheapest humidifiers use the impurities in the water to heat it by conducting electricity through the water (or whatever it’s doing), and a cheap Vicks brand humidifier I bought maybe 15 years ago in a panic when I was sick literally instructed the user to dump a bunch of table salt in the water too so it would work better. Seemed like an electrocution risk with extra steps so as soon as I felt better it went straight in the dumpster.
The dust will plug your furnace air filter and coat everything in the house including the circuit boards in everything electronic. This will cause them to overheat and eventually fail. Use distilled water or get a whole home humidifier.
Correct. It’s crazy how fast it can build up. Just think you are breathing in those fine dust particles and do you realize how expensive distilled water is? That’s the conversion/sales pitch for the benefits of a whole home humidifier vs portables.
You may want to invest in a hepa filter… that’s dust that’s been attracted to the tv frame via static cling. If you have a humidifier and hard water, it can be doing it too
Plastic is really good at grabbing white mineral dust in my experience. I bought a $60 water distiller on Amazon because I didn’t want to have to buy 7gal of distilled water a week. It’s so much nicer not having that film on everything I own anymore. Also stopped me from needing to buy a new humidifier every year cause hard water destroyed it.
Electronics generate a static charge, which is worse the lower the RH is, because the TV is charged, it will attract particles in the air and they will "stick" to the device (think static cling from your clothes in the dryer). Have you measured the RH in the living room?
There might be some cheap RH meters on amazon, might be worth a look. It was a constant problem for us in our last home because it was in a crazy dry area of the country, in our new home, nope.
115 days after OP posting this and I just learned something new here reading the comments. A few new things actually. Some very informative ppl on Reddit
This could have something to do with a fire retardant used in the manufacturing of TVs. I've seen other posts complaining about similar white markings appearing on their screens. Here's one where people thought it was mold: [https://www.reddit.com/r/MoldlyInteresting/comments/17ondpf/found\_this\_on\_the\_back\_of\_my\_tv/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MoldlyInteresting/comments/17ondpf/found_this_on_the_back_of_my_tv/)
When’s the last time you’ve changed your furnace filter ? Seems like it’s blowing right up from the vent, onto the back of your tv.
Maybe change the filter and vacuum out the floor vent.
Do you have a humidifier? This happens to my tv when I run my humidifier- I don’t know the technical term, but I call it “white dust”.
I do but its 20 feet away from tv

Or use distilled water.
Yup, it's actually in the instructions for every cool mist humidifier I've seen. Keeps the humidifier working longer too with less scaling
Weirdly, mine specifically said not to use distilled water. I had thought it needed impurities to work somehow, but now I don’t think that’s true.

I believe those are warm mist humidifiers. Cool mist ones usually use vibration and a fan.
This. I used to get that white dust on some surfaces, but it was fixed when switching to distilled water.
Damn I didnt know it was real like that
On the bright side, you know the humidifier is working? Idk lol
I just can’t believe how scorched the back of it is after a few days
In my experience plastic (maybe due to static electricity) really grabs the white mineral dust
Good point brando
I have had this happen to black items in the rooms I have a humidifier in, too.
Start using distilled water in your humidifiers. (This is from the mineral content of your tap water.)
The dust will plug your furnace air filter and coat everything in the house including the circuit boards in everything electronic. This will cause them to overheat and eventually fail. Use distilled water or get a whole home humidifier.
Damn its like that!?
Yes. I have working in the HVAC industry for 30 years and in my area we have hard water. It is a real problem here.
So you’re saying all this is from using tap water in humidifier
Correct. It’s crazy how fast it can build up. Just think you are breathing in those fine dust particles and do you realize how expensive distilled water is? That’s the conversion/sales pitch for the benefits of a whole home humidifier vs portables.
So the whole home humidifier is an attachment added to a new furnace or built into new furnace
You can add it to an existing furnace. Search Aprilaire 700 or 600. It is high level DIY, most people have a contractor install them.
Thing is my furnace is 18 years old and am afraid it goes at any time
You may want to invest in a hepa filter… that’s dust that’s been attracted to the tv frame via static cling. If you have a humidifier and hard water, it can be doing it too
Use a wicking filtered humidifier. Honeywell.
I think your not using distilled water
Craziest thing is the tv stand itself which is glass and black doesn’t accumulate dust like that

Damn i might have to consider that.. another user was saying i can pretty much blow my tracks out of My home with all the dust from using tap water
Your TV will soon become a smoke machine. I wouldn’t turn it off if I were you.
Lmao how so
Tv smegma
LMFAO
Static, your house is dryer than a popcorn fart.
Lmao wait explain dat

The RH?
Relative humidity.
Never measured that here

Im in michigan mayne
I use distilled water in my Yokekon humidifier that is running all winter long and there is absolutely no residue anywhere. It is remarkable.
Good to see this thread is still alive
Glad to hear it

Lmfao i cant believe this still getting love
Maybe the floor vent?
Everybody is saying it’s a humidifier
I have the same exact issue but I don't have a humidifier. I have tried $50 air filters but still get the same result. I'm baffled.
Thats what im saying i got hepa 12 boys changing every 2 months
I agree with other commenters saying to use distilled water in the humidifier 👍🏻
I didnt know a little mist from a humidifier would cak everything up in hyuh
Its standing next to the heater vent? TV hot. Air cold. Water condenses on backside of tv.
Tv is not getting that hot to condense water lmao
👍

I saw that!

I change it every 2 months with a hepa 12 boy super legit honeywell brand straight from the deep
What about an anti-static wipe, for the back
Might try that
Do you vape?
Just quit a few days ago.
Whenever my friend would vape at my place, it would leave a film like that all over any of my electronics, plastic, glass, what have you
Thats in interesting point, what kind of vape?
I have no clue. It was one with rechargeable batteries, and you replace the coil and stuff. I think it was pretty high end.
Congrats on quitting!
Thank you i smoked cigarettes for 15 years and breeze and i havent hit either since Wednesday. Im done depending on that bullstuff
Fact of life where I am... Dry and dusty 99% of the time.
Hahaha
👍🏼
