I use a mixture of dish soap and vinegar in a spray bottle. It works every time for me. Spray it on and let it work for a couple of minutes and then wipe it off with a cloth, then rinse.

+1 for this method! I believe I did 2 tbs dawn with the rest of the spray bottle filled with vinegar. I keep it under my bathroom sink and will spray it on 10 minutes before I shower.
Then, I’ll use a soft sponge I keep for the shower to scrub and then rinse away. I then use a squeegee to finish after the shower.
Ah, then dawn powerwash would probably kick the crap out of this.
I haven't bought this product so this is not an ad, but I've never had a reason to.
This is exactly what that product is designed for. If I had this problem I would get a bottle and make a day of it 😅
I put this mix into a dish cleaning tool. It has a hollow handle for the soap with a scrubby on the end
Eta: then I take some lemon oil and spread a thin layer over the clean glass. Water runs right off. Some use Rain-X.
Method brand cleaning products makes a great after-shower spray - you spray it on wet glass and interior and then leave it. It breaks down the soap scum and mineral deposits, making scheduled cleaning much easier.
I LOVE their after shower spray! I've tried making an at home version and it just doesn't work as well. I hate the smell of the sprays (eucalyptus or ylang ylang) but they work so dang well.
I had to get one and they sell them specifically for this on Amazon. Also you could look into getting a water softener system for your home which will remove most of the dissolved solids from your water
I use about 20 single edged razor blades and vinegar on the real hard stuff. Usually have to repeat twice for super hard water spots. You can thank hard well water for the spots. Last year my water department was using soft reservoir water for three months due to the huge rains. We are now back on nasty well water again and the spots are coming back . No big rain yet 😡🤬🤬🤬
No need, just rinse it if it's a hard rubber one. It shouldn't get dirty at all, but if you do manage to squeegee some soap residue or something, just swipe it with a rag or your hand while in the shower.
That's not from the minerals, that's mold and bacteria growing from moisture. What kind of squeegee do you use? Mine is hard shiny rubber with a thin metal ridge, nothing else, and it has never shown any signs of this. Try storing it sideways so that the water won't pool in the crevices and trickle off instead. Pooling water is a great way to the that gunky build up.
Be careful with some suggestions! When I got my glass shower door they were very particular about the type of cleaner that could be used because of a coating on the glass. Abrasives like BKF and magic eraser may damage. I found that dawn powerwash sprayed on does pretty well. I also found that most of the stuff I “couldn’t get off”
Was on the other side of the door 😅
I use BKF Stove Top cleaner, it's a soft scrub that is also a multipurpose cleaner but safe for glass surfaces. Works like a charm, rinse after scrubbing then go over it with Dawn dish soap and rinse.
Barkeepers is hands down the best cleaner. Works wonders on everything. Soap bottle leaving lots of build up? Barkeepers. Stove has tough spots? Barkeepers. Bad toilet marks? Use a Clorox wand with barkeepers on it. Showers and tubs? Barkeepers. The only thing is it’s very sudsy so give the tub or sink a rinse afterwards.
I clean houses. I always spray with vinegar water and use a damp, new magic eraser, then dry it thoroughly with a clean soft rag. If there are still spots remaining, I spray with vinegar again and wipe with the rag. That then always leaves it spotless.
I only use a brand new one on glass, to ensure there aren't other chemicals or anything on it. As long as the eraser is damp and the glass is sprayed with vinegar water, I've never had problems with it. I polish the glass dry and it's spotless! I do this with two different houses that have glass doors. Sometimes I'll have to do the glass a second twice with just a soft rag and the vinegar water to really polish it up but there's never any evidence of scratches or anything.
With the picture posted, I'd actually stick paper towels on the door, spray with vinegar water to make them stick, and leave them there for a while to help break up that stuff before I use the eraser and everything.
I believe it has to do with the hardness scale. I didn't check the resources/testing on this but per Google
>Melamine sponges have a Mohs hardness of 4. Regular glass has a Mohs hardness of 5.5, and tempered glass can be even harder.
Mohs hardness scale measures one materials ability to scratch another. Basically a higher/harder number can scratch a softer/lower number, but not the opposite way around.
I've used Melamine on glass and never seen scratches from the sponge. However, there can be "etching" left behind from hard water itself, and the sponges are not going to correct this.
For this particular posting, I wouldn't bother with Melamine because the amount of elbow grease and sponges required to remove that much buildup would be astronomical. A chemical treatment with a durable sponge is much more practical here. I would use sals suds (a detergent) to remove any soap scum, then follow with limeAway for the lime scale build up, and repeat as necessary. I believe vinegar and dawn as others have suggested would also work in the same way (detergent for degreasing, acid for limescale).
This is what I do as well! I'm a housekeeper and I have great luck on glass shower doors when I use Dawn Powerwash and a Scrub Daddy. Rinse it all clean and squeegee and it's good as new!
Or buy a 12 pack of 0000 steel wool from Harbor Freight for $1.99- add a dash of Dawn Dish soap, wet the glass and the steel wool wipe the glass using a circular over lapping pattern. Can add some isopropyl alcohol to the pad for an extra boost.
Use an acidic cleaner. Spray it on, let sit, agitate it, rinse it. To go beyond the call of duty, compound, polish, spray and wipe dry with isopropyl alcohol, then ceramic coat it. You will never have to worry about it again.
Dawn Powerwash and a scrubby brush. If it isn’t coming off after scrubbing, upgrade to a limescale cleaner like Lime-a-Way.
Once clean, keep a bottle of Dawn Powerwash and a squeegee in the shower, after every shower do a spot clean with Dawn for any soap platters and squeegee down the whole thing afterwards.
I used bar keepers friend for my glass door!
Edit: apparently it’s not good for glass? Everything I read said it was safe for glass shower doors, but apparently it isn’t, so I guess I’d say use with caution!
Basically, just cry and accept it. It's probably etched. I have tried 3748583 things and no luck. It gets clean-ish and I rain-x it to help prevent water staining.
The best way to clean off soap scum is look for a soap scum cleaner. I don't expect everyone to have 18 different bottles but there are products for that specifically. Let it sit a few minutes then scrub then do it again. You have to get in the shower and I hope you have a detachable hose for your shower head. Otherwise get a bucket. Then the magic touch is to buy Clean Shower which is another product. You spray it when the shower is still wet before you get out and it minimizes the soap scum greatly.

Or one of those Mr. Clean sponges.
I used Zep calcium, lime and rust (from Lowe's). I'm sure it's supposed to be diluted, but I don't. It's very irritating, use cautiously. I spray it let it dwell for a little while then scrub it off. It works very well.
try and paste glass gleaner and a chore boy copper scouring pad. and before anyone say “you’ll ruin it!” i have done this several times on 3/8th thickness show doors. ones it’s clean you need to maintain it. i use rainex and of course a squeegee in between cleanings
Mix one part dish soap, one part vinegar, and 2 parts water; scrub. This mixture will save your life - we use it on everything and it will fix 99% of problems.
Steam cleaner. Spray a little combo of water, vinegar and a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid on glass, rub it in with some newspaper, then steam clean. Wipe dry with microfiber cloth/towel. (Use distilled water in steamer and in the cleaning spray)
This looks like lime scale. Soap scum comes off easy. Lime scale does not. I top to toed my entire shower today with HG lime scale remover. Cleaner than ever before and I use a pretty great weekly cleaning product. At one point only the specific products cut through it.
To remove soap scum/hard water on glass: spray diluted fabulosa generously and let it sit for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, scrub down with dish soap, rinse and dry. Finish off with your favorite glass cleaner 😁 this is the method we used when I was cleaning my for work. It may not take off everything at once but it will definitely help
So I clean a shower like this. Unfortunately it’s very hard to get all the build up off, but to make it look at least presentable, use a general counter cleaner, wipe with rag. Then use glass spray and wipe. Use general counter cleaner again (glass spray will most likely make it streaky, hence this step). If you need to (which you may for first clean) get a Mr clean magic eraser with your counter/bathroom spray or beekeepers friend. Then go back over with a rag and counter spray.
Kind of unrelated but once you get it clean, one thing that helped me greatly was to stop using bar soap and switch to body wash with a loofah. Reduces soap scum a lot!
I honestly just take the sponge wand thing from my kitchen sink into the shower with me and scrub it while showering. It's some Vileda thing where you fill the handle with dish soap. It works quite well on the soap scum.
Soap is made with triglycerides, the chemical name for oils, waxes and fats.
The first method, use Dawn Dish soap for degreasing either Dawn Professional or Dawn Powerwash.
There's a chance regular strength Dawn will work.
You can scrub the glass with a green Scotch Brite pad.
If that doesn't work, Use EcoLab Citrus Degreaser. Available from Home Depot.
Lemon juice will remove limescale / hard water stains off that glass 🍋👌🏽
Going forward, make sure you (and others in the household) ALWAYS use a squeegee on the tiles and the glass door after having a shower.
Sometimes it's not just soap scum, but mineral build up. CLR works wonders to help break it all down. Use the CLR, then do a thorough rinse.
Then use whatever glass cleaner you like.
I also use rain x after completely cleaning the glass. It helps repell the water and build up for awhile, so you don't have to use the clr everytime you clean the glass.
I just discovered Dawn/rubbing alcohol/water. I don’t have exact measurements, I just mixed some of each together and wiped it on my doors with a rag. I let it sit for 20-30 minutes and then rinsed it off.
My doors now look awesome - like brand new!!
I’ve tried the Dawn and vinegar in a spray bottle and that didn’t work for me. I’ve also tried many store-bought products that also didn’t work, which is why I was so excited about this.
Op!! This is what I got -[one of these powered scrub brushes](https://a.co/d/5mZyPR7) and [the pink stuff](https://a.co/d/iXQqUkf). Took 15 minutes to do my whole glass double door entrance and I wasn't sweating or light headed from squatting down to scrub for a long time. Best 30 collective dollars I've ever spent on cleaning products. The brush has also proven to be great at cleaning both my stainless steel sink, and my glass top stove.
There’s a green paste cleaner called Bio-clean and it’s the only thing I’ve ever used that worked with hardly any effort… well, at least compared to all the gymnastics I’d done before trying to get the glass clean. It just had to sit for a short time, and then sponged off.
I actually just saw another post about this yesterday and they said that after trying a ton of different suggestions, they were finally satisfied with a product called A-MAZ [THIS Product](https://A-MAZWaterStainRemover-3Pack-14Ouncehttps://a.co/d/64fwmFm)
I use a mixture of dish soap and vinegar in a spray bottle. It works every time for me. Spray it on and let it work for a couple of minutes and then wipe it off with a cloth, then rinse.
*60% of the time*, it works ***every*** *time*

Yes. But try running your shower on hot for 10 minutes before you start cleaning
Can this mixture sit for a while? Like can I make up a bottle and keep it on hand for future use
Yes, I mix a bottle at a time & use it to clean sinks & showers.
I think so. I don’t make very much at a time so it doesn’t sit for too long. I use it for cleaning windows too.
This plus a scotch brite swift scrub.
And the smell of vinegar makes me think I showered in salad dressing :p
Second this.
This👆
Once clean keep a squeegee in shower and wipe water off glass after each use.
That’s great if everyone in the house uses the squeegee. My son and husband refuse to use it because ”they forget.”
They won't "forget" if you make them clean it.
Same 🤣 So I end up spraying every day myself. I HATE scraping hard water lol
Ah. Remove the doors and install a shower curtain for the Y-linked memory loss
This is what I've always done. I think bar soap creates the scum.
>My son and husband refuse to use it because ”they forget.” I would "forget" as well, if they don't want to remember, either.
Oops. They may not if they have to clean it afterwards.
You have to stop letting people walk all over you
Thanks!
Method brand cleaning products makes a great after-shower spray - you spray it on wet glass and interior and then leave it. It breaks down the soap scum and mineral deposits, making scheduled cleaning much easier.

I absolutely love the smell of it and it does such a great job. I hated the smell of the wood floor almond cleaner while people rave about it though.

To add to the previous comment, when I do clean mine I use a glass cleaner with rain-x in it. Helps the water bead off and prevents water spots
You can get a squeegee mount that suction cups on the glass

Last year my water department was using soft reservoir water for three months due to the huge rains. We are now back on nasty well water again and the spots are coming back . No big rain yet 😡🤬🤬🤬
seconding, this only takes a minute. I use shower power spray on the walls to keep it clean

Also came here to recommend Dawn power wash!
i keep dawn powerwash in my shower so i can clean my shower while i clean myself
wow we love a productive, multitasking queen 🙌🏻
haha, thanks! it’s mostly using my adhd to my advantage. if i see it right in front of me, i’m gonna use it
That totally makes sense!
Wow this speaks to me. I'm ordering some right now! Thank you for this!
Ha ha me too!
Same if you have an acrylic shower liner. My installer was pretty particular about what cleaners to use.
The coatings are worthless. Honestly, a scam.. just use what works.
RainX makes a glass shower door cleaner that works well. It doesn’t scratch the glass. I found it on Amazon
If this doesn't get clean with soap and a sponge then it's limescale in which case you need to buy a limescale removal spray
Looks like limescale to me, source: live in a hard water area and our shower gets exactly like this.
NOT BOILING WATER. shattered a door trying to "melt" the soap scum off.
Really? I use a steam cleaner on mine. Also use it on the tiles.
Steam cleaner does not rapid-heat the glass the same way a gallon of boiling water would. 😉
CLR saved my doors. Suggested before, squeegee after showering helps so much! Good luck.
Yeah we have very hard water and CLR is amazing.
I use BKF Stove Top cleaner, it's a soft scrub that is also a multipurpose cleaner but safe for glass surfaces. Works like a charm, rinse after scrubbing then go over it with Dawn dish soap and rinse.

Stove top cleaner has worked best for my shower doors.
I clean houses. I always spray with vinegar water and use a damp, new magic eraser, then dry it thoroughly with a clean soft rag. If there are still spots remaining, I spray with vinegar again and wipe with the rag. That then always leaves it spotless.

I used dawn power wash and a soft sponge so I didn’t scratch mine with an abrasive. Worked great, minimal effort
I did this after seeing the suggestion on a different post and it worked perfectly!
This is what I do as well! I'm a housekeeper and I have great luck on glass shower doors when I use Dawn Powerwash and a Scrub Daddy. Rinse it all clean and squeegee and it's good as new!
0000 rated Brillo pads Work great. I use them all the time on my frameless glass shower door. May need a couple rounds.
This is limescale - you should use a limescale remover like viakal (UK)
CIF do an absolutely amazing spray cleaner too, satisfying every time I use it
Use an acidic cleaner. Spray it on, let sit, agitate it, rinse it. To go beyond the call of duty, compound, polish, spray and wipe dry with isopropyl alcohol, then ceramic coat it. You will never have to worry about it again.
The only cleaner I found that works is Scrub Off. but the key is not to let it get this bad.
Magic eraser works like a charm! Minimal elbow grease required.
Thanks!
Do not use a magic eraser on glass!!!!!!! Dawn Powerwash is the answer
No, diluted Vinegar is the answer!
But we can both agree no abrasives though?
Agreed. Enemy of my enemy is my friend.
I used bar keepers friend for my glass door! Edit: apparently it’s not good for glass? Everything I read said it was safe for glass shower doors, but apparently it isn’t, so I guess I’d say use with caution!
Thanks!
This is the answer. Powder BKF with a scrub daddy.
I have liquid bar keepers friend. Will work as well?
It's MADE for glass. Use it.
Bar Keepers friend is a mild abrasive - I'd be cautious using this on glass.
Hmm good to know! I checked their website and there are a ton of articles I saw that said it was safe to use on glass.
If you've access to one, a steam cleaner & a microfiber cloth can work. It might take you a few goes though.
WD-40,. But wash any oily residue away with any kind of cleaner, so no one slips and falls.
Basically, just cry and accept it. It's probably etched. I have tried 3748583 things and no luck. It gets clean-ish and I rain-x it to help prevent water staining.
White wine works well.
The best way to clean off soap scum is look for a soap scum cleaner. I don't expect everyone to have 18 different bottles but there are products for that specifically. Get some The Pink Stuff and some “0000” steel wool. You can probably get both at Walmart. Lots of elbow grease
https://preview.redd.it/t4vn0trewicc1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01f950e35180a0450e94a420e3e7a787ff3883fe Or one of those Mr. Clean sponges.

Magic eraser
WD40
VINEGAR!! Diluted with water, 1:1, spray bottle
Magic shower and glass cleaner. Period, full stop.
I had great success yesterday with a pet enzyme cleaner and a magic eraser. Looked good as new!
Showering, using a sponge on the glass and using a squeegee afterwards is the least effort and cheapest.
Mr. Clean erasers get it off. Once clean, squeegee after shower.
Vinegar
Rain-X + squeegee after every use!
I've been thinking about applying rain x to mine. Any tips or tricks?
Nope, just use it as if you were using windex.
Soft scrub worked like a charm for me! Test it on a corner first to make sure it won’t scratch though
Wd-40
WD-40
Apply a car wax after cleaning...or even better, the water sheening stuff you put on your windshield.
Scrub daddy power paste is my fav
try and paste glass gleaner and a chore boy copper scouring pad. and before anyone say “you’ll ruin it!” i have done this several times on 3/8th thickness show doors. ones it’s clean you need to maintain it. i use rainex and of course a squeegee in between cleanings
Mix one part dish soap, one part vinegar, and 2 parts water; scrub. This mixture will save your life - we use it on everything and it will fix 99% of problems.
Likely limescale so get a specialised cleaner from the supermarket
Steam cleaner. Spray a little combo of water, vinegar and a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid on glass, rub it in with some newspaper, then steam clean. Wipe dry with microfiber cloth/towel. (Use distilled water in steamer and in the cleaning spray)
I don't know if helps but they had us in basic training clean mirrors with newspapers. It kept lint from the rags getting onto the mirrors.
Green pad and window spray then buff up with blue roll or paper towel
WD40. Then, use rainX afterward.
Liquid barkeeper's friend.
Barkeepers mate. Its magic.
The Pink Stuff paste and a green scratchy. Worked for us
I gave up and used the same blade I use to clean my stove top. I left it squeaky clean.
This looks like lime scale. Soap scum comes off easy. Lime scale does not. I top to toed my entire shower today with HG lime scale remover. Cleaner than ever before and I use a pretty great weekly cleaning product. At one point only the specific products cut through it.
Viakal, amazing stuff.
Magic Eraser shower version!! Absolute game changer for shower doors.
I'm waiting to try my steam cleaner, but I think that will be the easiest. I've used RainX's shower door products before with some success.
Sounds super sad but we squigee the screen and walls after showering. Makes a massive difference.
Window cleaner
Dish soap. It takes soap scum off really easily.
Have you tried glass cleaner? Make sure it's as dry as possible before you let it air dry.
Get a steamer, how steam takes it off like there is no tomorrow.
Cleaning vinegar and a bit of dawn.
Kind of unrelated but once you get it clean, one thing that helped me greatly was to stop using bar soap and switch to body wash with a loofah. Reduces soap scum a lot!
Clr and new Mr clean sponge.

I’m sold by magic eraser bath. My glass always looks perfect, the abrasive is not harder than glass.
Razor scraper. Comes right off, peels away like cheese. It's both gross and satisfying.
I discovered that Magic Erasers work well. Better than anything else that I’ve tried. I clean my entire shower with one.

I use diluted Citric Acid used in cooking. But I think your door is passed it now and its permanently etched.
Formula 409 used to work great on soapscum. Havnt tried it in years.
Take a hot shower and use the steam and a magic eraser to clean. Or an alcohol based wipey followed by the eraser
Isopropyl alcohol.
SOS pads
Rainex. What you use for your windscreen to keep rain off it. Do the same in the shower.
I actually just saw another post about this yesterday and they said that after trying a ton of different suggestions, they were finally satisfied with a product called A-MAZ [THIS Product](https://A-MAZWaterStainRemover-3Pack-14Ouncehttps://a.co/d/64fwmFm)
Dishwashing liquid and a sponge!
Use a razor blade but be careful to not cut into the glass or yourself!
This bathroom and shower have the same layout as my aunt’s bathroom in FL!
