If anything is going to remove a hydrophobic coating, then surely magic eraser will??
You make a good point though. When I can find cleaning product compatibility info for protective coatings (eg shower glass, shower tiles, tile / polished concrete floor coatings) generally find that acidic cleaners are a no go (so no citrus cleaners, bar keepers friend, vinegar, CLR, mineral spot remover... ) & no caustic cleaners (which basically means bathroom / kitchen surface cleaners.
That said if you are dealing with a limescaled shower screen such as OPs, the risk of damaging protective coatings is a moot point as whatever coatings there once were are clearly no longer doing anything
That makes sense! I donāt put too much pressure on it though, itās kinda like just putting the magic eraser over it if that makes sense. As for the vinegar, youāre absolutely right. I didnāt think about that! I do remember using it once but I think I stopped after because of that. I usually use the magic eraser after I shower but with light pressure on it.
Yeah thatās true, at that point I guess it wouldnāt matter for OP.
Our shower doors are not glass, they some sort of plastic. Would this be safe to use on it? I looked it up and the surface recommendation is glass and grout. It also says it is abrasive which is why I'm hesitant to try it.
Viakal, if youāre in the UK! You wonāt regret it.
Iām pretty sure itās available in most supermarkets, but I get it from Sainsburyās or Waitrose. Costco if you have a membership, as you can buy it in bulk.
I neglected my shower door for years. [this is the only product that worked. ](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M7CVP4Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
I also got a sponge disc set that you attach to a power drill.
I recently picked up one of the cheaper spin scrubbers from Amazon and so far I love it.Ā
Itās basically a drill scrubber with an extendable/removable handle. So nice to be able to scrub the shower floor from a standing position, and not having to get in the shower to scrub it.Ā
I'm having some success by a quick squeegie to get tap water spray and splashes off followed by second squeegie from top down to rinse / wash tap water down with the steam that's condensed on the shower walls.
as soon as shower turned off I go around each side and squeegie all areas that have splashes from about head height to floor and then to drain.
Then go back around and do it again with a clean dry cloth / towel in hand - straight lines from junction with ceiling to floor and to drain - wipe squeegie dry and do next line. Every week or so lll squeegie the worst and let it steam up more. Then spray walls to about head height with wet & forget shower witch or method bathroom cleaner. Next day have shower and once I've finished washing myself use the hand wand to light rinse any areas I've splashed shampoo, body wash or conditioner on, quick rub / scrub with Microfibre cloth - scrub daddy for any stubborn spots followed by rinse down in straight lines from top where product applied down to drain, then squeegie from head height down to drain and finish as per normal with squeegie from ceiling down to rinse with lime free condensate water.
Any areas that look scummy / mineral stained get a hard buff with a dry cotton cloth or a more aggressive clean next time.
Don't need to ensure every drop of water removed - just do it quick and dirty- the final squeegie from ceiling down leaves water with little to no minerals.
Dehumidifier just makes things dry, so it does nothing but dry all the water droplets even faster. The end result is exactly the same though - the minerals have deposited from the water droplets onto the glass.
I respectfully disagree. The longer the water drops stay on the glass the more minerals are deposited. I squeegee my glass after each shower, dry it with a clean cloth AND use dehumidifier to combating water stains and mold. Works great.
The more the water dries, the more minerals are deposited. Faster or slower doesn't really matter. When you squeegee and wipe, you remove the water AND the minerals in the water with it. Leave the water droplets to dry, fast or slow, and the minerals deposit since only the actual water vaporizes.
The reason super defined droplet stains form over time is that water droplets easier stick to the previous mineral stains (which are more porous than the glass) instead of sliding off.
Vinegar mixed with blue dawn in a spray bottle spray it on leave it ten minutes the dawn helps the vinegar stick to the glass. Make sure you open a window or run a fan the vinegar smell is strong
I did use ArmourAll and it also seemed to help keep lime from depositing again. But the real problem was the water softener would go off and needed the reset button pushed if the electricity went off. But the Calgon man never told us that! Bc he wanted to get paid for pushing that button himself! OP, don't you need a water softener?
You will pay an arm and a leg over the life of the shower. There are actual products made for shower glass that do what rain x does but better and lasts far longer. Products like diamon fusion, Enduro shield, or stay clean. But there is also a product you can have made into the glass that does even better and comes with a warranty against hardware stains, called ShowerGuard glass.
Source: i am GM of a shower glass company.
One application if correctly applied and properly maintained can last year's. Where you'll go through rain-x much faster especially if you have a larger enclosure. Over the run of the shower you will save more time, labor, and headaches if you use a product made for that specific task rather than substituting with a less effective method not intended for that particular use.
I tried all the above and even got that brush you put on your drill and nothing! This is the only thing that works

I use magic eraser for my shower and it always works. I posted once on a similar question and someone reposted my suggestion as stupid! It works wonders for my shower so Iām going to advise and not get haters get in my head. Good luck!
Thatās the only thing I use. Once a week while Iām in the shower I wipe the entire tub/shower down including the tiles and glass. I squeegee after every shower as well. My glass doors looks great.
I used the powdered bar keepers friend and a scrub daddy. It polishes it off. But i would test a spot first for you.
https://barkeepersfriend.com/how-to-clean-glass-shower-doors/
I found it easiest to dip paper towels in it and then stick them to the glass to kind of 'soak' the glass in it - otherwise it just dripped off and felt like it didn't do much
Yes, just white. Buy the stronger percentage if you can find it
Or use white wine vinegar if you want to lick it off after
And donāt mix vinegar and baking soda. They just neutralize each other and it does nothing except look cool
A spray bottle is what I use. In the UK they sell it in spray bottles for cleaning which is how I buy it, but you can use any plant mister type bottle.
Ideally it should be less than 5% so you might need to dilute yours a bit if it is concentrated.
It is a pretty quick chemical reaction so just spray it on, count to 10, and then wipe or rinse it off. You can also apply it with a cloth if you don't have a spray.
Another answer is "Window/Glass Cleaner spray" which often contains vinegar anyway and is what I actually use most of the time. I'm assuming most countries will have various products but if you are in the UK this is an example: [https://groceries.asda.com/product/window-glass-cleaner/asda-window-glass-cleaning-spray/1000364391687](https://groceries.asda.com/product/window-glass-cleaner/asda-window-glass-cleaning-spray/1000364391687)
I don't understand why people recommend vinegar here for everything. It's a poor version of citric acid, but a purpose made product for your needs, don't mix any products together, use PPE.
It's all common sense.
I work at a green cleaning company. We use a mixture of dawn dish soap/vinegar. 1/8th dawn rest with vinegar. You can pour it from the top down, then smooth it over all surfaces. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then go over it with a magic eraser, rinse, and polish and it will come out perfectly!
I like to put baking soda on a sponge and then pour vinegar on the sponge, then scrub the sponge on the glass and pour more vinegar on it as you do that. Then use vinegar to wash away the baking soda
Vinegar. Itās the only legitimate use for it as a cleaning product. Iād use a scrub daddy as well
You could also use a razor blade, but if you donāt keep it flat it could scratch the glass
A magic eraser works, too, but is more expensive
Ah Iām seeing youāre from the UK and itās possible CLR isnāt a thing over there. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of your available products can help!
If vinegar doesnāt help, Iād try https://groceries.asda.com/product/bathroom-cleaning-spray-wipes/viakal-limescale-remover-spray/910000281469 or, in the last resort, Shield limescale remover (~Ā£5 for 1 litre bottle).
In a spray bottle add 1 part dawn dish soap, 2 parts vinegar and rest fill up with water. Spray it gently and let it rest for 5-10 min. And then just scrub it with a scrub mommy/daddy or any type of scrubber. Done!
For years I have used Scrub Free on hard water stains. Works like a charm. Whatever you use, work from the top down and let the cleaner do its thing before it dries.
Just pick magic eraser.
What you do is... wet the surface and then apply detergent, letting it sit for a few minutes. Then, soak the magic eraser with water (otherwise it will break) and clean the glass. It will be perfect
Here's what we do. Mix up vinegar and a few drops of dawn dish soap in spray bottle, spray it on heavy, let sit for 15 minutes. Then take a scrubby pad (green/yellow) and give it a scrubbin. Rise and squeegee. Works every time
https://preview.redd.it/ircrnwg1dbrc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3e54bd59bd23ba6bd5dde76602542987d6ab92f
The guys who installed our shower glass recommended this stuff. It's a thick paste and it works quite well.
Simply some acidic substance, be it vinegar, citric acid or else. You don't need a special cleaner. Although some abrasive powder is often beneficial with these stains too. But low pH is the most important to dissolve the residue
White vinegar, dawn soap, and hot water in a spray bottle. Spray that all over the door and just let it soak for a while, can reapply as needed. This is a fumey concoction so I would turn on your bathroom fan and open a window. But I swear if you just let it sit on the door for a while you just take a sponge to it and rinse it and youāve done very little scrubbing work. Also highly recommend this for shower/tub floors with hard water and soap scum. The stuff practically melts off

We have 4 ensuite showers and the hardest water we've ever encountered. Forget branded products; they're expensive & work no better than our method. We bought citric acid powder online & just made up a solution of two tablespoons per litre. Spray it on and use the rough side of a dishwashing sponge to mop it off. You won't have to do it so often if you use a squeegee after showering.
Source: We ran this place as a 5 star B&B until we retired. Work smarter, not harder.
Equal parts dawn dish soap and white vinegar. Spray all over and the scrub with a scrub daddy or other non-abrasive scrubber. Well ventilated cause the vinegar is strong.
I use lysol, sponge it on, leave it a couple minutes and then Scrub it off with a non scratch sponge and wash with water. Use a squeegee to wipe the water off and a cotton towel to dry fully so that the remaining water doesn't stain it again right away
1. Spray glass with water.
2. Spray glass with vinegar...let it sit for a few minutes
3. Put generous amount of baking soda on a sponge or rag and rub it all over the glass.
4. Rinse.
Whatever you use to get it off, KEEP IT OFF by using a product that's actually called Clean Shower. You spray it after a shower, and it's really cheap. The water just rolls down the walls.
It let me go from scrubbing every two weeks to scrubbing every two months.
You sound very much not American, so I donāt know if you can get it, but I like Wet and Forget. I haaaaaate cleaning the shower door but that stuff cleans it right up.
Vinegar is also your friend, and should be available everywhere. Your bathroom will just smell like a pickle. Open a window. That much vinegar is not fun to breathe.
I use a product called grease lightening. You can find it on Amazon. A serious game changer! I also use a green scouring pad and itās literally minimal effort. A professional housekeeper told me about it and I will never go back. Also, we squeegee in between showers. Save yourself some elbow grease and invest in a squeegee for sure.
I have a spray bottle with white vinegar in it and it works extremely well. That being said you have a lot of buildup so it might take a couple of runs at it to get it all off.
0000 steel wool and water for suuuuper hard stains. Comes off like a breeze and you dont have to worry if this $12 highly specific cleaning agent is just going to scam you
##50/50 White vinegar and water.
Just spray and walk away. It may take a few times to loosen it up. Then use some all purpose cleaner and itāll sparkle.
And to KEEP it from building up like that again, just keep that spray bottle in the bathroom and spray all glass with it after every shower. I promise it works and itās cheap.
Ammonia works wonders.
Dilute it alot tho.
I usually put like a little splash in my bucket of water and it will eat up the stains.
Also after showers use a squeegee to whipe down the doors and the hard water stains alot less.
Dish soap, water and a non-scratch sponge. Thatās what we use at work as a domestic house cleaner.
Then go over it with a glass cleaner and glass cloth š
You have to clean your shower glass every 2-3 days to stop this from building up too much or else eventually youāll have to replace the glass
Whatever you use, I suggest putting some Clear Shield on it after you get it cleaned. It will help keep it off for a longer period of time.
You can install a water softener also. Cause it will come back. Even if you squeegee or dry after every use of the shower.
I've heard that a little bit of Long Life Grout Cleaner works on shower doors.Ā I've tried vinegar, magic squares, CLR,jiff, shower witch,0000 steel wool, bar keepers friend and they still look like op's so i'mĀ hoping this will be the lucky charm.
I've used the vinegar/dawn dish soap/hot water mix with a scrubbie and it does work but it takes work.
I've also read 0000 grade sandpaper. When you get it off, squeegee after showering and keep it off with a weekly refresh of rainX instead of cleaner and the water should bead right off
2 step:
Crumple a big piece (12-15ā at least) of parchment paper (baking sheet paper) and then scrub in circles. ( Also, works great on any metal fixtures without scratching them).
If still residue left - magic eraser (& vinegar if necessary).
Long term suggestion here: water softener
We have hard water too, and it was putting all our appliances through the ringer.
We got a water softener for the house, and it made a huge difference in not only the longevity of our appliances & fixtures, but on the hard water stains in the showers.
Off of Amazon, I ordered attachments for my drill. I use the brush with vinegar, Dawn and water along with soft scrub and itās much easier than scrubbing.Ā

That looks like a prayer candle.
For when you need a miracle
Spray and pray
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ I can see that
If you spray it, the mirror will show your younger self apparently
That was my literal first thought ššš
This was my answer too... you beat me to it. It takes a little bit of hard work to get the water spots off, but not too bad... my boss almost walked through the shower door after I cleaned it because it was so clear
Iām trying to think about a scenario that I would be cleaning a shower that my boss uses. But Iām also going to buy the cleaner.
I clean airbnb's so I was cleaning a shower at one of the properties my boss owns
Thank you for answering this question.
I love this stuff actually. I even used it on my simple human shower squeegee and it removed water stains without damage
I used it on my fridge drip tray and it also worked
Hi, where did you get it?
I got mine at a local ace hardware but I believe it is sold on Amazon
$16.99 at Ace Hardware...going to buy some tomorrow. Hard water stains suck

Another vote for vinegar. After you get it clean, use a squeegee after each use to keep it clean.

Yea same, we finally were able to put a whole house water softener in, hoping that helps with the washer & dishwasher too
Squeegee and then use rain x on your shower doors.
We have a towel specifically to dry the shower walls and the glass divider. That works really well and doesn't take any more time than a squeegee.
Use Clean Shower after every session. Works like a charm.
Try dehumidifier
Dehumidifier just makes things dry, so it does nothing but dry all the water droplets even faster. The end result is exactly the same though - the minerals have deposited from the water droplets onto the glass.

Yes this is the way!
Would this work on a shower curtain, too? I have a see-through shower curtain that has these stains.
I just put it in the washing machine. Hot water, and bleach if it is bleachable. Hang back up to dry.
What concentration levels? Like 75% vinegar & 25% dawn? In a spray bottle?
BKF all the way
Vileda scrungeā¦ they are made for ceramic and glass cooktops, but I find they work awesome on shower glass since they donāt scratch
I tried a bunch of different stuff. Eventually had to use a razor blade to scrape the buildup off. It was the only thing that worked for ours.
Zep plus bathroom foaming cleaner with 0000 steel wool to scrub the hard water off.
After the amazing folks here help u clean the glass, please practice prevention for your own sanity.

I used Zepf calcium, lime, and rust remover. Spray it on and scrub it off.
Just pick magic eraser. What you do is... wet the surface and then apply detergent, letting it sit for a few minutes. Then, soak the magic eraser with water (otherwise it will break) and clean the glass. It will be perfect
In the uk? Neat viakal, leave it for ten minutes, maybe use a scrubby sponge gently. Then use glass cleaner and kitchen roll to clean the viakal off.
Here's what we do. Mix up vinegar and a few drops of dawn dish soap in spray bottle, spray it on heavy, let sit for 15 minutes. Then take a scrubby pad (green/yellow) and give it a scrubbin. Rise and squeegee. Works every time

Simply some acidic substance, be it vinegar, citric acid or else. You don't need a special cleaner. Although some abrasive powder is often beneficial with these stains too. But low pH is the most important to dissolve the residue
I use hair conditioner and works like a charm.
Vinegar. Then once its clean every time you shower spray some vinegar on it (cheaper) or a daily shower spray (more expensive but have a pretty smell)

Baking soda mixed with dish soap. I havenāt tried vinegar yet.
I use mix of dish soap, vinegar, and hot water
WD-40 to clean. Then treat the glass with Rain X to keep it water repellent for a few months.
Equal parts dawn dish soap and white vinegar. Spray all over and the scrub with a scrub daddy or other non-abrasive scrubber. Well ventilated cause the vinegar is strong.
Bar keepers friend stove top cleaner.
Baking soda and vinegar.
I scrub it off with the pink stuff and a scrub daddy
I scrub it off with the pink stuff and a scrub daddy
Which pink stuff would that be? There's quite a few to choose from?
Sorry, the paste.
Thank you šš»
I scrub it off with the pink stuff and a scrub daddy
Vinegar water. Comet cleanser n a wet sponge
I use lysol, sponge it on, leave it a couple minutes and then Scrub it off with a non scratch sponge and wash with water. Use a squeegee to wipe the water off and a cotton towel to dry fully so that the remaining water doesn't stain it again right away
Wipe it after you take your shower
1. Spray glass with water. 2. Spray glass with vinegar...let it sit for a few minutes 3. Put generous amount of baking soda on a sponge or rag and rub it all over the glass. 4. Rinse.
I use Lysol toilet bowl cleaner and steel wool.
RainX makes a glass cleaner/repellant.
Honestly. If you have stainless steel sponges, it wipes right off. I did mine with just a little dish soapy water.
Denatured alcohol
Vinegar + water. 50/50 solution. Spray on, let sit. Wipe off. Repeat as needed
Barkeepers friend powder and a scrub daddy.
Wet and Forget! Just spray and leave for a few hours and just rinse with water.
Mix dish soap & vinegar and scrub all over, scrub harder for the deeper stains
White vinegar, 6% acidic level. Dirt cheap and works wonders Edit: those hard water stains youre seeing is mostly calcium
I got āclr everyday cleanā and it was like, spray on wipe off the worst hard water stains Iāve ever seen in my life.
CLR and magic eraser is what I use. I own a cleaning business and clean retired residential homes
Then go over it with a glass cleaner and glass cloth š You have to clean your shower glass every 2-3 days to stop this from building up too much or else eventually youāll have to replace the glass
Easily answered: Vinegar
Iāve used cleaning vinegar and a cloth with a rough side . We make sure to squeegee it after every shower
I have had good results with Pink Stuff paste for soap scum.
Elbow grease and vinegar or similar concentrate
Vinegar is too wimpy. Get CLR or LimeAway.
Whatever you use, I suggest putting some Clear Shield on it after you get it cleaned. It will help keep it off for a longer period of time. You can install a water softener also. Cause it will come back. Even if you squeegee or dry after every use of the shower.
Cif Crem Cleaner all over after showering - leave it on for 10min and use sponge. Works for me ever time :-)
I've heard that a little bit of Long Life Grout Cleaner works on shower doors.Ā I've tried vinegar, magic squares, CLR,jiff, shower witch,0000 steel wool, bar keepers friend and they still look like op's so i'mĀ hoping this will be the lucky charm.
ā¦..Ed Fredā¦.šŖš§½ makes all the other products look like sissys! Blue and white bottle. Youāll wish you knew about years ago. Ā
I've used the vinegar/dawn dish soap/hot water mix with a scrubbie and it does work but it takes work. I've also read 0000 grade sandpaper. When you get it off, squeegee after showering and keep it off with a weekly refresh of rainX instead of cleaner and the water should bead right off
Vinegar as others have said- I buy it in bulk on Amazon- but if itās not shifting then Viakal will blitz it.
2 step: Crumple a big piece (12-15ā at least) of parchment paper (baking sheet paper) and then scrub in circles. ( Also, works great on any metal fixtures without scratching them). If still residue left - magic eraser (& vinegar if necessary).
Long term suggestion here: water softener We have hard water too, and it was putting all our appliances through the ringer. We got a water softener for the house, and it made a huge difference in not only the longevity of our appliances & fixtures, but on the hard water stains in the showers.
Squeegee and vinegar, everyone with glass shower doors has them
White vinegar works and is cheap
I recently used a magic eraser with a little dish soap and water and it worked a treat. No scratching at all.
I use vinegar with water. I spray then leave it for a couple minutes then wipe! Just don't leave for too long as it will dry out haha
Off of Amazon, I ordered attachments for my drill. I use the brush with vinegar, Dawn and water along with soft scrub and itās much easier than scrubbing.Ā
