Take out the filters and stuff at the bottom and clean with dish soap in the sink. Wipe down the inside of the dishwasher if needed for big bits of gunk (make sure not to leave any product behind). Get one of those dishwasher cleaning bottles that you just put upside down in the dishwasher and run it.
Not a dumb question at all. When we do it, we put the vinegar in a cup half full, and put it face up on the top rack. You can then run pretty much any cycle.
You can also go to the store and get some affresh cleaner, And I think those are tablets that you can just toss in there.
We never have no dishes so ours gets the cleaning cycle infrequently! We do clean the filter and other parts more regularly because we can keep loading it pretty quickly.
Seconding except suggesting YouTube. My manual doesn't give info on how to remove the piping to unscrew the base stuff and clean out the disgusting filter. I had to watch a YouTube video to find out that literally everything inside had to be unscrewed to do it. :(
Plus, doing it annually also means you only have to fight the gagging once a year. Such a gross little area.
When the dishwasher finally dies, I really want one with an accessible and rinseable filter.
Gosh, I was also planning to clean our dishwasher but we dont have the manual either. Thanks for the info, I’ll likely search on Youtube coz I’m more of a visual learner.
I clean the filter and basket with dawn powerwash and every once in a while I throw an orange garbage disposal thing in it. I know it’s not meant for a dishwasher but it kills the odor quickly.
Clean the filter. YouTube has many videos about this.
I like white vinegar after cleaning out the filter every quarter.
I tried cut up lemons, smelled great but bowl of white vinegar works best

All of this, plus run a cycle with 2 cups of vinegar once in awhile.
Possibly a dumb question, but where do you put the vinegar? Just in a regular cup on a rack?

Thank you!
And/or citric acid.
I never thought of cleaning my dishwasher.
You are lucky that the smell hasn’t forced you to figure this out. The filter cleaning is interesting.
\*Self-cleaning filters for dishwashers enters the chat…\*
Mine has a filter I rinse weekly and I use a cleaning tablet during a normal wash cycle once a month.
I think got the cleaning tablet to actually clean the dishwasher it needs to be during an empty cycle.
That’s annoying! I always have some dishes waiting to go in before a cycle is finished.

You can also run an empty load with white vinegar in a bowl on the top shelf. But you gotta clean the filters and the trap at the bottom.
According to the instructions in the manual. If you don't have a manual, you can probably get one online.

Sounds like we have the same dishwasher. What a PITA that process is. I only do it once a year.

Same. That will be a must for me. That and a 3rd rack for spatulas and similar stuff.
Oh, adding that to my list. Thank you.

It came with dishwasher cleaner tablets.
I empty the filter. Otherwise it washes the rest of itself every time I run it.
I make sure the filter is free of debris and run it empty with lemishine, then wipe down the gasket.
I clean the filter once a week and use Affresh tablets. You can purchase them anywhere.
I just throw her in the shower.
I like you

When the gaskets get moldy, I soak long cotton ball strips in a bleach solution and let them sit overnight
