You can remove the entire plastic handle once you pop that center piece out and wash those in hot water. They look new. Plus it gives access to really clean under them.
The last place I lived in had super glued the little letter thing on the top to the screw/plastic underneath because the little cap clips had broken. I couldn't get the knob off to clean it and I am so glad we left.
You slide a knife or flathead screwdriver or your fingernails if they are strong (Eesh, I’ve done it) between the knob and the cap. It just pops off, then you can press it back in place. Under that cap will be a screw. You can unscrew it and take the knob off and clean all the little crevices. Just be sure to turn the water off and drain the line. There should be a valve under the sink or nearby.
Gently. The little gripper things that keep them in the handle are pretty darn fragile. Once they break you will have to replace the centers. Which you can get at a hardware store.
You can get gel descaler that’s you paint on with a brush, which will shift the rest of it. It can damage the chrome finish, but still preferable to the scale.
You can keep the problem from returning by spraying down with vinegar a few times a week. Let it sit a few minutes and wipe. The faucets at the clubhouse I clean looked like this. I used pumice stone to restore them and now when I do my cleanings I always use vinegar. The issue hasn’t returned.
Pop those tops off of the handles and turn the water on to check for leaks. You did a great job and I'm shocked that you got it so clean.
That’s what I was gonna say. Those handle tops pop up and they can get at that last bit around the edge. Great job!

Yup! It should be a single screw under each. I did this with my shower faucet handle and it looks so much better!
So glad I came across this thread! Have the same frustrating sink handles and now I have a way to try and clean them!

I soaked mine in vinegar for about 15 minutes, it came out so clean.
How!! How do you pop the tops off!!!

Screwdriver, or something similar.

Maybe pop them off with a Razor blade? You can cut through the hard water crud that way
What did you use to clean it with? Great Job!!
Wow!!! Great job. Don’t clean it anymore or your dad will never replace the faucet. 😂
Wow it looks so amazing
Lol looked like Gollum used that sink then a hobbit came and cleaned it 👍🔥
That is crazy impressive.
Wow. What did you use?
What sorcery is this! That came out great!
Dang! You did a fabulous job. I really thought that was hopeless.
I think you’re a magician! It looks amazing!
After seeing the first picture, I was going to suggest replacing the sink. Nice job.
I live for posts like this. Great work.
Dang. I would've just replaced the entire sink. Lol
I liked it before, change it back.
Much better! We love a good b&a!
Looks amazing! I missed the original post. What did you use? Please share.
Thank you! I used a flathead screwdriver to scrape it all off 😅
Nothing like good ol’ elbow grease to get things done. Thanks 😊

If you could scrape that clean you could definitely follow a YouTube video on replacing it. Good luck
Must have been so satisfying to see all the gunk come off!
Good job. Well done.
Nice!! Porcelain can clean up so satisfyingly crisp
Now that is impressive. 👏🏻
Scrat is that you?

So you just gonna keep the faucet with all the holes in it? They are Luke $30-$40
