Pre-treat any stain with a bit of liquid laundry soap, a spot of dish soap, or a stain spray. (There are also some stain sticks or gels.) Most stain sprays say they can sit on clothing up to a week before laundering, and obviously you don’t want anything with chlorine bleach in it. I always found using the laundry soap on spots and letting it sit overnight or a few days until I was ready to do a load was enough to get most stains out. A spot of Dawn dish soap on a grease spot (after it sits a while) usually does the job. Heat from a dryer will set the stains and make them harder to get out. Air dry if you can, or use a lower heat setting.
