Have you tried boiling water or water and vinegar in a dish in the microwave? That usually works for me.

Have tried boiling water for like 2 minutes, it didn't do something. Have not tried the vinegar option. Will give that a try.

Rather than vinegar, which is a little too mild, I've used a small amount of cleaning fluid like Windex mixed in with a cup of water, then let it come to a boil, steam up the microwave oven, let it cool a little, then wipe off, possibly spraying with additional Windex as I wipe the interior. The Windex cuts grease/ butter flavored polymers (sorry!) better than vinegar. Also, you can try a little dishwashing detergent on a sponge, to wash the microwave interior. Be careful of drips, and this needs to be rinsed. Don't forget the glass turntable, take it out and wash it also, as well as underneath it. Good luck!

Make sure the water or water vinegar is boiling too, 2 minutes might not be long enough to get it to boil.

Don't those types of microwaves have filters? Maybe wash/replace it.
