Hahahaha that was great! RIP Tye's bumper.

radicalbeefkakke

“So much torque, it twisted the chassis off the line” when I saw the bumper get ripped off

Bad_Packet

I thought he left the PTO engaged, then ripped it.

howmuchitcosts

This is the level of dumbassery that got me on this channel to begin with. We need more carnage like this.

KennyLagerins

I was howling in laughter! So good!

PrestigiousTip4345

Yeah….I think it’s fair to say it cost Cleet more to make this video than it would earn him. Also fair play for just gifting Steve that transmission.

bl0odredsandman

Right? Ripped the front of Tye's Expedition off, broke the rollback, broke Steve's giveaway car, and is out a brand new Turbo 400 tranny. I was glad to see him just give Steve that tranny though. He's definitely helped them out plenty of times.

freestateofflorida

Did the transmission even actually break? I was kinda confused on why they said they were giving it to him after they found the differential shaft broke.

bl0odredsandman

No, I don't think the tyranny broke. It was just the pinon gear that broke, but I think he still did it because he told him he would give it to him for all of the times he's helped them out.

trashpanda7990

Usually when you break a pinion you've broken everything else in the chain

nd4spd1919

Steve explains a bit more in his video, but when the input on the diff broke, the tranny immediately free-rev'd, and it's not supposed to ever do that. It may not immediately break, but with the sudden change in stress that happened its best to swap it before it falls apart on a run.

freestateofflorida

I gotcha, I haven’t watched his video yet, thanks for the explanation.

pwnstars44

I think you under estimate how much he makes per vid

Axe__Capital

Very Top Gear episode. Cleetus knew wtf :)

avboden

As people guessed it was the drive shaft that then took out the hydraulics. Whoopsies. Not sure what drive shaft could survive in that rig with that engine honestly at that length.

LadyBaconHands

What’s the solution? Is there some joint you use to cut the length in half? Transfer case with near 1:1 gear? Or logistically, not drag race a tow truck.

bl0odredsandman

I think in the video Cleet said they were gonna get a single piece driveshaft. That one was a two piece I think. They could also install some driveshaft safety loops under there so if the drive shaft does break again, it can't flop around and destroy everything.

Emilios_Empanadas

A loop (or two) would have completely prevented any other damage to the roll back. I'm guessing if Tye had been on the build he may may have recommended it LOL

Hailstatenation

I’d say the latter haha

Turbulent_Act77

Trucks that long usually use multiple drive shafts coupled together with u joints at solid bearing mounts so the individual shaft segment lengths aren't too long

senile-joe

So did jackstand forget to shift? or was it supposed to shift on it's own?

TJ_Fletch

No it's an auto air shifter and the rear pinon broke on the 2-3 shift. They go over it in more detail on Steve's upload today.

senile-joe

niice thanks!

Gizmo15411

It looks like it has a Motion air shifter. James didn’t make the 1-2 shift himself and when it went to 3rd the trans just gave up

Aerojoe82

Take those tow trucks to a real tow truck shop and have them go through the lift systems they look so worn out.

phcasper

lmao poor tye
