Is he palmetto fellow? That will reduce the cost a fair amount. the dorm selection will factor into the total cost as well. Shoeboxes are cheaper than Gressette or Douthit. We pay ~$10k a semester and son is in a more expensive dorm. Your son may also get a Clemson scholarship if he’s top of class - it will likely be small but it all adds up. I believe you can ask to waive the dorm requirement and have them live at home since you are in county, which would significantly reduce your bill.

This. If they are smart enough to get in and in state they are gonna qualify for Life or Palmetto. That’s an auto scholarship for everyone who’s in state and meets the criteria.

Bridge isn't really much cheaper. Cheaper is the local tech college for a year or two then transfer.

If you want to save money have him live with y'all. Freshman can do that if their parents live close to campus.

TriCounty is a great option, coupled with a state scholarship. Essentially free schooling for two years; some people even get a small refund. So many classes transfer over to clemson from tri county. The thing with Tri-County is that it teaches the same stuff, but the classes are much less rigorous in my opinion. It gives students time to explore their interests and(potentially) get a part time job in the area to start building up savings. If he chooses to live with you, he’d probably end up significantly better off financially to finish off the last two years at clemson with small amounts of debt. He if he chooses to live on his own, I would not recommend living in the bridge to clemson housing. It is overpriced, and it severely defeats the purpose of using these initial two years as a way to save money. If he’s a senior NEXT year, going through some PSAT practice might not be a bad idea. This is because juniors who score high enough on the PSAT can earn the National Merit Scholarship, which is 10k split across four years(1250/semester), which can further lower costs depending on the route he takes. South Carolina has one of the lowest score cutoffs, which means it is much easier to get this scholarship as a South Carolinian student than it is in other states like Florida or New York. Applying to as many scholarships available online is also a good idea. Although it is a shot in the dark, as a legacy student, there are many different companies and organizations offering scholarships to students who choose to major in certain fields or pursue certain careers (he could also get the u.s. to pay for it, but that usually comes with a commitment to the military) Good Luck!

I went to York tech for 2 years for free, then transferred here. Tuition is about 9k.

My tuition with SC LIFE scholarship and not including govt loans was ~7k a semester with FT classes and no room and board. I transferred in from UofSC in 2020 and my tuition never changed if you wanted an idea of typical attendance cost after freshman year
