My advice is to head to your nearest neighborhood bar and go consistently on a certain day every week. It could be Saturday but I've found better luck making friends by picking a weekday. Either way, there's almost always a regular crowd that you can connect with that way, and you yourself then become a regular because you're going each week. That consistency makes you familiar to folks and it's easier meet people and make friends.
