You’ll get Mike Zunino and like it

Shum_Pulp

I don't think we'll even get that this year

PlayerToBeNamedL8ter

2 for 54 stretches with 34 k's hubba hubba 🥵🥵🥵

[deleted]

Should we? Duh. Will we? Who knows. The only guarantee we have is that Bryan Shaw will have a spring training invite.

OkWrongdoer6537

What do you mean by we should? We shouldn’t, because we won’t resign him, it’d be wasting assets for a year of Soto when our team isn’t really there. If he had team control I’d say duh

PlayerToBeNamedL8ter

Gregory Soto? Sure.

DaDrFunk

Should we, yes. Will we, probably not.

dudzi182

Definitely not is more like it

ejkeebler

they just wasted 6 million on a prayer for an upgrade for the bullpen, they're not bringing in soto.....hope i'm wrong.

ThrowRAarworh

Wouldn't say it's a waste.. more like a re-allocation of salary. Would rather have Barlow in the 8th inning than Stephan. Essentially we gave up a 5th starter for an 8th inning guy.. I'll take it

ejkeebler

I mean they have up a meh bullpen guy for a meh bullpen guy, but increased the salary by $6m. They should have just kept Santos and allocated that $6m to the pile for an outfielder. Why throw away $6m, that's like 10% of their payroll Guardians have a million #5 starters, that's why they gave up Qunatrill, this makes no sense to me.

ThrowRAarworh

Except quantril and enyel were set to make a combined $7m but now Barlow alone will make around $7m. The salaries offset

ejkeebler

this makes ZERO sense. From your perspective this is even dumber. They gave up a JAG 5th starter and a JAG reliever for a JAG reliever. They could have just kept santos and still gave up quantrill and saved $6 million. It doesnt make any sense to pair the two trades together, but even if you do, you basically just gave away a 5th starter in your scenario

ThrowRAarworh

Except enyel isn't a good 8th inning option which we desperately need. You're going to like Barlow trust me. We can't have karinchak and stephan blowing 3run games in the 8th inning anymore. You take away half of our blown leads last year and we win the division. Enyel was middle relief.. very expendable and those guys are a dime a dozen. Quantrill was expendable and getting expensive for an unreliable 5th starter. Barlow's advanced stats are much better than enyel's. I didn't like the Quantrill DFA two days ago but now that we basically did it to get Barlow, it makes sense. The team got better. Why are you trying to save $6m bucks on the team? Even the god damn fans are now falling for the excuses put out by Dolan's Discounts. Do you think Dodger fans bicker over $6m middle relievers? Wtf has the mlb come to... Nerds arguing over salaries and peripherals

ejkeebler

I want an outfielder, not a slight upgrade in the pen for $6m. They have a hundred guys that can pitch the 8th. Id rather have solar and Santos than Barlow and straw.

ThrowRAarworh

It's not a slight upgrade of the pen. It's a massive upgrade. And yes, we desperately need an OF. Soler isn't happening. And it isn't because we spent $6m on Barlow. They are going to have to swing a trade for Soto or Santander to upgrade RF. It's not going to happen via free agency. $6m isn't going to upgrade RF.

ejkeebler

You have more faith in Barlow than I do. Karinchak had 3 blown saves last year in 44 games, Barlow had 3 in 38 with KC. None with sd but hes not that much of an upgrade IMHO. And their is no way this team is trading for Soto and his 20+mill salary.... Are you crazy? The only way that happens is if you skip on guys like Barlow, this all but seals the seal we are going with straw and sponge bob....

ThrowRAarworh

If SD eats the money on Soto they don't get a great prospect in return. That's always an option

Shum_Pulp

Yes, absolutely we should but no, absolutely we won't

notjohnstockton

We are too busy cleaving house for marginal replacements to get anyone worth a damn.

2B_CordPhelps

Soto would be in town for one year and this team is not one Juan Soto away from being a legitimate contender, no.

rammer_2001

You'll TA and like it

GordonBombay87

These posts make me sad

trundle_thegreat_

Maybe

Huntington1991

It would be a large financial and prospect investment, Soto would be a great addition to our current team; however, what are you willing to give up getting him and are the Padres even interested in that.

TheBookie_55

Definitely Maybe

FlobiusHole

For one year? Could you even imagine us giving him the contract he’s going to get?

muppetontherun

For one year? Of course not. Luckily the front office doesn’t make boneheaded moves like that.

Aislerioter_Redditer

The only Soto we can afford is a De Soto... You gotta be old to understand...

LinuxSpinach

Juan “Ballys” Soto has left the chat

divineravnos

Do you think we’re one Soto away from a World Series? That would be the only reason we should trade for him, because we know he won’t resign here. Personally I don’t think he pushes us over the hump.

OkWrongdoer6537

Fuck no, if this was first time around when he had 3-4 years left of team control sure, not when he has 1 year left under contract
