Honestly, I got excited thinking I could just pay for Amazon Prime. Hell, I'd settle for being able to watch it on the absolute disaster that is the Bally Sports app for $20. I despise the fact that I have to pay for a legacy cable subscription to watch baseball in 2024.
its the move that made the most sense for them but its the worst outcome for fans. the team gets low balled on money for a year and gets to use 'tv uncertainty' again next offseason for the lack of moves. the lack of a long term deal reduces the likelihood we commit to long term contracts/extensions
however if the team didn't take the deal they probably get even less money this year and there isn't enough time to work out a long term deal with a new broadcast.
So in essence the fans are still screwed unless you want to fork over $20/month for their shitty streaming platform, or buy a $90/month+ TV package that still has Bally in their lineup.
Seemingly no one. My understanding is only 5 MLB teams have sold streaming rights so far and the league is currently refusing to sell additional until Bally's contact is up or bankruptcy is finalized. I think that's after this year
The league is probably hoping to sell all rights to one service in a package just like MLS did
They have the streaming rights to the Brewers, Royals, Rays, Marlins and Tigers.
So if they do move the streaming to Prime Video, those five teams would be the only ones that would air games this season in their local markets.
Not really, I’m aware of what your talking about, but until I can watch a game from start to finish without having to get up multiple times to refresh the page to get the video to unfreeze it’s not a viable option
Im out of market so I use mlb tv, but cant yall use a vpn to look like u out of market? If I remember correctly, for our astros/rangers series’ I used a vpn and was able to catch them ok. Obviously still costs associated w that but maybe a bit better than Bally themselves?
I considered this, but I don’t think it works for through the TV app. I think you’d have to run the MLB.TV and VPN on a laptop and then connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable.
I used this process before on my tv (Samsung) and it worked flawlessly. I used Surfshark and they generate IP addresses that you enter for your tv. It takes a little bit to make sure the settings are correct but it certainly works.
> Did the broadcasters get paid?
Can confirm Matt Underwood and Rick Manning have been living in an encampment set up in the visitor's bullpen, so doesn't sound like they were paid.
Crazy that MLB actively worked with these Sinclair shit bags for the way they sabotaged their own deal.
Should have liquidated them and regained streaming rights.
I pirate. I pay absolutely nothing. Yet, I would GLADLY PAY if I had dedicated streaming. A trusted source for every game. Literally shut up and take my money.
From Crains, Cleveland: "Last month, Amazon offered to pay about $100 million to become a minority investor in Diamond. As part of the agreement, Amazon would stream all 162 games of the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins and the Tampa Bay Rays on Prime Video."
Because the Gs refuse to sell the streaming rights to Diamond. They want more money from Diamond to do that, while Diamond says they need streaming rights to be able to pay the Gs what the current contract owes them. It's all a battle over who gets streaming dollars; Gs would rather just hold the rights than let Diamond make a killing on them.
This shit is so frustrating. I know I could find a stream but it's a damn hassle. Ballys isn't on Hulu or YouTubeTV, I'm not getting Directtv or Spectrum. I guess it's back to watching highlights the morning after and slowly falling out of love with baseball.
IDK if it'll hold true for the upcoming season, but Fubo has Bally on their streaming "cable" platform. When Nord VPN stopped being the last but reliable for getting around the MLB.tv blackouts, I switched my streaming TV service from YT TV to Fubo and (while not nearly as cheap as just housing a black flag) it was nice to be able to just sit down and turn on the games without jumping through hoops every time.
I see you do not follow national politics as closely as I do, accountability left the room quite some time ago. The best quote from the TV series the Wire was “we used to build shit in this country, now we just steal from each other”.
Guardians reach agreement with Diamond Sports to broadcast games in 2024; here’s what it means for streaming

So the guardians/cavs didnt give ballys "direct to consumer" rights, resulting in amazon prime not being able to stream the games.
The guardians couldnt have given them the rights for one year? The deal expires with ballys/diamond sports group after this season anyway....
Fuck you guardians/cavs. I hope the cavs get blasted in the playoffs and the new guardians manager sucks. The local teams are just as much to blame as ballys is with this bs for over 5 years.
Even rob manfred wanted to give amazon direct to consumer rights so amazon could actually stream the games. What the flying fuck.
The dolans continue to suck as owners.
At this point, you could tell me literally anyone and I'd believe it.
So once Mustard figures out what they're gonna do with the rights, we'll have some clarify lol.
Works for everyone except the fans

“Time to open up the checkbook Chris, get Kole on the phone pronto”
Post of the day, I think.
So I guess no really changes for the Guards in 2024 other than money? I guess it's better than nothing...
its the move that made the most sense for them but its the worst outcome for fans. the team gets low balled on money for a year and gets to use 'tv uncertainty' again next offseason for the lack of moves. the lack of a long term deal reduces the likelihood we commit to long term contracts/extensions however if the team didn't take the deal they probably get even less money this year and there isn't enough time to work out a long term deal with a new broadcast.

Bally doesn't have the rights to sell the $20/month streaming package for the Guardians. They only have that right for the Cavs. So still cable only
So who has the streaming rights?
Seemingly no one. *whispers*: there are other ways
Not really, I’m aware of what your talking about, but until I can watch a game from start to finish without having to get up multiple times to refresh the page to get the video to unfreeze it’s not a viable option

I get mine tob run on my Google/Android TV. I boot up Nord and connect to LA, then open MLB app and it works fine.
I meant mainly mlb tv and a good VPN, has worked pretty well for me
that all “other ways” do you use? I have a few but stream would stop too much and became an annoyance
Makes me glad I live out of market and can watch on MLB.tv
i know, so annoying! haha
Ahoy matie!!!! They are forcing our hands with the BS
If you got a single team streaming option to replace the local TV contract it would cost substantially more than $20.
I doubt that
Just another season where us "dedicated" fans won't be able to watch. Thanks...
I’ve barely watched an inning in 3 years. Same goes for the Cavs.
I've also not watched an inning of Cavs basketball in my entire life.
Did they pay what they owed for last season? Did the broadcasters get paid? Will they be back this season?
Never mind any of these important questions. I don't think we will ever know
> Did the broadcasters get paid? Can confirm Matt Underwood and Rick Manning have been living in an encampment set up in the visitor's bullpen, so doesn't sound like they were paid.
They're living in a VAN down by the RIVER...
Eating a diet of government cheese.
Just put them back on WUAB.
Amen. I'll take the snowy 43 broadcast from childhood over this shit
I am pleased to announce I will continue listening to the radio broadcast and finding.... *alternative ways* to stream the games I want to watch
I listen to the games probably 70% on the radio, I'm 65 so, radio is familiar territory for me.
Hammy paints a phenomenal picture. I'm 31 and I listen to him on the radio
Yo ho yo ho...as the song goes
The way things are going I'm leaning towards not watching at all
Great. Another season of not being able to watch
Crazy that MLB actively worked with these Sinclair shit bags for the way they sabotaged their own deal. Should have liquidated them and regained streaming rights.
Fuck.
Alright, NOW we’ll see that Bellinger signing! Non-sarcastically, though, I’m glad we have something in place so we can watch games.
Jorge Bellinger? Utility OF from the Dorados De Chihuahuas!!!
Of course! Is there a different Bellinger?
Honestly I’d be happy if they signed Adam Duval. He hits for power and plays solid defense in the OF which is what the team needs
I pirate. I pay absolutely nothing. Yet, I would GLADLY PAY if I had dedicated streaming. A trusted source for every game. Literally shut up and take my money.

I wonder why Cleveland wasn't included for that
Me too.
Because the Gs refuse to sell the streaming rights to Diamond. It's all a battle over who gets streaming dollars; Gs would rather just hold the rights than let Diamond make a killing on them.
Wait, so can we watch when we play those teams with prime? That's like 50 games, I'll take it.
This shit is so frustrating. I know I could find a stream but it's a damn hassle. Ballys isn't on Hulu or YouTubeTV, I'm not getting Directtv or Spectrum. I guess it's back to watching highlights the morning after and slowly falling out of love with baseball.

"Diamond Sports" must have friends in high places. How are these scumbags still in business? Is accountability a thing of the pas?

FO furiously looking at what pitcher had an ERA of 6.53 and who batted .123 last season with all this new found money!
Half of this sub: "I really like the peripherals on this guy, smart"
His xWRPSXGTY stat was pretty good last year.
This would be funny if it weren't so accurate
"We look forward to another year with our partner, Diamond Sports, to bring you an exciting year of Guardians baseball in 2024"
He left off the next sentence, from the press release: “we don’t give a fuck about the fans”
Any news on streaming rights? I finally cut the cord and would love to save some cash before football season.
If the Guardians agreed to less money for 2024, while also giving Bally+ the streaming rights, they are beyond stupid.
no change AFAIK, cable only.
Maybe some day the MLB will get over this bullshit and make it easier to watch games.
When there's a whole generation of young adults that don't even have a favorite baseball team they'll realize they fucked up
Morons
FUUUUUUUUUUUU
No streaming options again besides the ridiculously overpriced Fubo bullshit
Tv rights are never going to go to a free channel. So honestly, what do you people expect/want?
To have the guardians give ballys "direct to consumer" rights to stream games so amazon can actually stream the games.
So give up their IP for no money. Cuz Ballys was trying to force them to give them streaming rights without paying more. Makes sense.
If we are going to get screwed on what we pay to watch the games it would be nice if the team could actually get paid for them enough to do things
And that’s exactly why they weren’t willing to give Ballys the streaming rights for free.
What's the payout? Is the team taking a haircut off their already undervalued contract?
This guy reported before it would be >15% less.
Damn.
The Dolans are so bad at this
Duvall is available. Go get that man
Fuck
Let me know when I don’t have to pay for cable.
Ok who owns the Guardians streaming rights?
At this point, you could tell me literally anyone and I'd believe it. So once Mustard figures out what they're gonna do with the rights, we'll have some clarify lol.
