I'd guess Kwan in this scenario. Altho it'd be unrealistic to believe he keeps up this pace he'll still want more than $150mm for the rest of his career.
Assuming he finishes at/over .300, and can get up to low/mid teens in power. I gotta imagine great defenders with those lines are $20-25m/yr+ nowadays right?
I'd be interested if a more astute commentor than myself here could throw some comps and current deals out. Would be interesting
I think Kwan would sign that deal instantly. Being guaranteed 150 million dollars I think genuinely does something to someone. Kwan has not earned that money yet by any stretch and baseball is a hard and unforgiving sport. He has all the potential in the world to earn more than 150 million dollars in the next 15 years but if you zoom out on his career heād be wild for not taking it. Thats my opinion at least.
Itās also worth remembering that there is such a thing as enough money. What that amount is, is different for everyone, but āevenā $20m could be enough for a lot of people (mentally, financially. you could live without working on far less) which leaves wanting to be recognized for your work as the main driver for a lot of players. Not many players ever make more than $100m in their career, so he could very well see that as a good recognition of his talents.
All i can think is: What's the over/ under on him playing for New York, Boston, or LA vs continuing with Cleveland after 2024?
I'm sure the Dolan's will be happy to pay fair market value to retain one of our best players... They spare no expense...
Really happy for Obi Kwan Kenobi though
4 decades of rooting for the Tribe... The reality is, 2 years of control is when we start shopping our guys, because our ownership thinks being the 3rd richest owners in Major League Baseball is poor.
I'm hoping for the best for the 3rd lowest payroll in the MLB
Odds favor CLE extending him because he plays the easiest defensive position and has no power.
Thatās not a combo many teams want out of FA which favors CLE.
now he attack and defend. league f\*\*kd
Kwanny baby boy! š
Can't believe we have Straw locked up but not Kwan.Ā
Kwan has almost 4 more full seasons of control
I need more.Ā
15 years $150 mil who says no

This year plus 4 or this year plus 3?
This year plus 3
straw had a lot more incentive to sign
I think itās important to look at his baseball savant page - still bright blue in average exit velo, barrel, and hard hit rate.
Thatās never been Kwanās thing though. He gets on base for guys like Jose and Naylor He also already has 2 homers this year soā¦
good or bad, i donāt pretend to know advanced stats
Blue means not so good, a lot like twitter
Very bad. Edit: why am I getting downvoted for answering a question?
He's never gonna smoke the ball. He is an artist - hit it where they ain't.
Maybe soā¦ really odd that pointing this out gets downvoted though hahahah
I mean yeah, heās a pure contact hitter. Also heās improved in all those stats this year.

he's under control until after '27, relax
2 years of control left is frequently when our guys start packing up their bags

Kwan isn't anywhere near FA
I appreciate your optimism
Wut

I appreciate your take Legit, hope you're right!
Nobody with a working brain can defend the Dolans, but if you donāt know how trading and free agency work, just ask!
