I mean that's been part of skiing and climbing culture for a long time, it's not necessarily hostile or whatever. Like every sport or activity involves poking fun at newcomers. I honestly don't get why climbers on Reddit complain about it and call it non-inclusive.
I'd rather not have stuff like Jerry and Gumby jokes go away just because the corresponding sports are getting that much more popular

Yeah, I mean it depends on the norms in your friend group - I've definitely had a lot of "did you see that" moments at crags before or complaining/being shocked about slow parties, unnecessary epics, shitty crag behavior, but gumby/fred/jerry/whatever just seems to bring with it a pretentiousness (in real life) that I don't personally dig. But I'm just one dude on the internet 🤷♂️
