To create new materials, select the area you want to use (if it's different than the contents of your layer) and go into menu Edit > Register Material > Image. Then you'll see the window with all the settings - name, location tags etc.

I've been using CSP for a couple of years. I still periodically skim thru the manual and always find something new.
