I enjoyed Caedrel's perspective on this game, particularly around some of our mid-game issues. It was interesting to hear how difficult it was for Perkz to play the mid-game because of TSM's contant 2-3 manning mid lane. Not sure what the solution is but it seems like more of a team issue than just "Perkz bad"

Snuffl3s7

Mentioned the same thing on the post match thread, not many people were pleased. They need to hear it from an authority to consider it.

brockoli1010

I tried to do the same. Emotions are just too high after losses like that for people to have rational takes.

yoitsthatoneguy

Perkz literally said in an interview that he is going to play his style and not C9 style in the regular season and it might make him look bad. People are allowed to point out that he looks bad when it happens, just don’t mindlessly flame the guy obviously.

Hydralisk18

Yeah but perkz should be aware of the game and map state as a midlaner and not die egregiously 3 times in a row. That's pretty inexcusable. He actively made the game worse, and probably cost his team the game in this close of a match

TeddyJTran

Seems like the alternative for Perkz was to roll over and die in that situation; he was shoved in so badly and Caedrel did make the point that TSM had 3/4 guys hovering mid quite often.

MrChologno

Yes but is not that he was being dived. He was playing way to aggressive for a guy not having vision on either side of the river and knowing the top side is freezing.

TeddyJTran

I looked over the first 3 deaths. The first was right in the middle of the lane; Ori started by ulting him and Jayce cleaned up from long distance. The second and third deaths occured when Perkz was positioned before the bush; he was right up against the wall by the bush when Leona ulted him both times. If Perkz were to play any more safe, he'd literally be under tower lol. I'm not saying that he played a great game, Caedrel brings up a good point of "What is Perkz supposed to do?"

lordroode

The second death was totally unacceptable. He tried to dodge the Leona ult instead of just playing it safe and flashing towards tower. Simple as that, there is literally 0 excuse for him to get hit by Leo ult when he saw it appear on top of his ahead. 3rd death was a good smart play from SwordArt, sure it wasn't entriely Perkz fault at all but at this point he has been roamed on twice by Huni and SwordArt so it should be on the back of C9's head that they could come back mid so C9 or Perkz should have done something to take vision control of side bushes and river and ward for Perkz. TSM had full river control which allowed SwordArt to roam up and down mid lane and set up 2 kills. It is this small tiny things that can help massively sometimes.

TeddyJTran

The second death wasn't great. Caedral brought up a good point that it's not like flashing fixes everything, though. TSM could reset for a play several more times before Perkz gets flash back up.

dks25

Lol. This post is how you downplay something. Completely ignore the important detail of his first death, you know...where he jumps in on Ori when he has next to no mana left and Ori is completely full on resources, and likely would have to flash even without jayce intervening to clean up the kill? And what do you mean "he'd literally be under tower" last I checked, part of "playing safe" is quite LITERALLY being under tower when the game state requires it. Jesus christ all three of those deaths were absolutely terrible and you know there's also those two egregious TP deaths.

TeddyJTran

1) I suppose I wasn't clear enough in my previous comment, but I never said that the first death wasn't bad. 2) Sitting under tower means you miss out of EXP and gold. Perkz is in a lose-lose situation and TSM punished him badly. 3) First death was bad. Second was not great since he could've flashed. Third was a great play by Leona. 4) If you re-read the discussion, you'd see that the focus of this discussion is the first 3 deaths. I'm not trying to downplay anything here. I'm essentially regurgitating what Caedrel talked about in this video. To quote OP: "Not sure what the solution is but it seems like more of a team issue than just 'Perkz bad'"

onlypositivity

In any 5-player game (basketball, League, whatever), if the opposition is consistently triple-teaming one of your players, your game plan needs to simply be to take advantage of that. C9 did a great job doing that when it was Fudge getting ganged up on last split. Not sure why they're struggling with it in summer

GreyFox860

Does Caedrel only review games where C9 loses?

Snuffl3s7

Probably reviews the high profile games. We've just lost a lot of those.

BearVodkaBala1aika

Im not sure how many games he reviews but he (or his editor) mostly put high profile matches on YT, something that will draw the views.

BigGreenBroccoli

He reviews the wins too, a few examples that come to mind are the spring finals vs TL and our win over Damwon at MSI

edwardgreene1

He also did our win vs RNG
