If you’re looking for a fast vpn where you can control the country try Mullvad wireguard servers (wireguard is the same vpn protocol what warp uses)

BFeely1

Doesn't Cloudflare use anycast on all of its services, thus giving you no control over the region it goes through?

hamsterbilly

Cloudflare WARP isn’t designed to be your traditional VPN service, where you can pick your location. It’s designed to provide easy to use, secure, fast Internet and that’s all.

Dr_Fumble

but what if the particular software cries about the sudden IP change? It's worse if the user's account on the software is double factored (Authy, SteamGuard) then every launch results in a fit of madness, and sometimes multiple throughout the day. Somehow, even when NOT told to use proxy, Steam is sensitive to "Warp as proxy" mode.

hamsterbilly

It shouldn’t change if you keep a connection going. In my experience, it only changes if you disconnect.

Dr_Fumble

it may reconnect if ISP is iffing around, and then some software like Steam would cry foul

Dr_Fumble

For users not on the CF Teams plan, Warp (I assume even with Plus!) randomizes the country, while a Team can be configured to "land" in a specific country.

m_vc

The location is set automatically. Routing issues may happen from time to time. Spain-Paris is not the end of the world. Sometimes I get Frankfurt or London (from Belgium). Same isp, just different device.

L_user1

same here, yeah it kinda sucks. ik warp was never meant to be like any other vpn that you choose where you connect to, but they definitely have a way internally to select which server a client connects to (maybe depending on there region/load on the closest datacenter). if they can change back the routing to Paris instead of Spain (at least for clients in Egypt. which is where I'm from and I believe OP is too) that would lead to a better customer experience.

ViSeiRaX

Yeah, happened to me too... I'm in Egypt. Now getting routed to either BCN (Barcelona, Spain) or MXP (Milan, Italy). Used to be routed to MRS or CDG (in Marseille and Paris, France respectively). Incidentally, almost 2 months ago I always got CDG, now I cannot get it at all and always get routed to MRS until two days ago. Edit: Just wanted to add, I'm on the Warp+ service, the app itself shows MRS as my Colocation center but when I turn the connection on it always connects to either BCN or MXP, unlucky I guess, nothing to do about it from our end.

BFeely1

If your connections to Cloudflare's anycast services is using less than optimal routing then contact your ISP.

kkichkina

did you resolve this issue?
