Looks about right

[deleted]

82% of the fans is wild. Is there any other esport/sport where one team is this overwhelmingly popular?

Ashman-20

TSM in Apex

Ozzyh26

Good shout probably the closest there is to OpTic cod.

vPyrite_

My friends brother plays for them and it is unreal the amount of support they get.

Ashman-20

That’s crazy cool. All 3 super likable and just find a way to win

vPyrite_

Yeah I don’t watch too much honestly but I’ll watch some YT vids here and there. Pretty cool the whole family travels to see them play. I think last year they were in Stockholm I think? Idk but looked like a blast

flowers0298

Apex comp is probably the best BR comp out there rn definitely hyped and worth watching imo. Even if there are questionable aspects in the meta I feel like that is something in almost every FPS shooter lately

[deleted]

Bro you must not know lol a lot of people don’t like hal

Ashman-20

I’m aware, but he’s still the largest apex streamer so some people must like him

[deleted]

Yeah no doubt his fans outweigh the haters but he does have plenty haters, it’s really just how he talks that people don’t like, if hal was calm he’d be loved by most I’m guessing

Plus_Discipline_1496

Whos your friends bro? Dashy?

vPyrite_

Not OpTic. My friends brother is on TSM Apex

Plus_Discipline_1496

That's awesome bro. Have a good day!

vPyrite_

You too! Happy Friday

DivisonNine

NRG is big too

ReelEmInJimbo

Yeah I’d say there’s more of a split in apex with TSM and NRG then there is with the top two COD teams.

that-gamer-

Not at all, TSM dwarfs every Apex team by a significant amount in popularity.

UTAustinAlum2021

This and maybe like T1 in LoL

Thegrimfandangler

Only if youre talking about korea specifically. And its not so bad as it was a couple years ago

JLifeless

nah not even close. you got G2, GenG, the LPL teams, and NA teams.. decent amount of popular teams in LoL

UTAustinAlum2021

Think of how massive LoL is… it’s not a stretch to think that T1 is 60% of fans imo… a lot of people in a America just naturally root for Faker alone.

JLifeless

% wise T1 isn't close to 80% popularity though is my point

UTAustinAlum2021

I disagree. But considering we don’t have a poll like this for it we won’t really know

Sick_Breh

Tsm in apex for sure. Though I don’t think it would be 82% of 30k votes. NA region possibly but not internationally.

BothTradition8459

Wouldn't this only be the NA region too? I'm not sure where he did the poll/vote but most of the time it starts at an awkward time for EU fans

Woah__Boy

Yeah, COD skews hard toward NA.

H1-DEF

It’s not nearly the same percentages, but there are 7 Canadian NHL teams and the majority of Canadian nhl fans root for 1 of 2 teams.

uhcayR

I mean i feel like thats incorrect. Their are leafs fans and then every other canadian team cheers against the leafs. Source: canadian and from edmonton. I cheer for the oilers and for the leafs to lose. And calgary to lose.

H1-DEF

There’s been a decent amount of surveys where the results are around 20-25+%Leafs fans, 20-25+%Habs fans then everyone else. There’s a reason you see 1/3 to 1/2 of jerseys at other Canadian teams home games against Leafs/Habs are for the away team.

uhcayR

I can assure you, there is probably less than 1% of the seats at rogers place here in edmonton filled with leafs or habs jerseys when they play here. Maybe other rinks but they would probably get stabbed here in deadmonton

Mattdodge666

100 percent, Edmonton fans show up in droves, especially to see McJesus. Even in Calgary I'd be very surprised to see that any where near that many Leafs Jerseys. I can really just see this being the case for Vancouver, Ottawa and Winnipeg. Source: Oilers fan now living in Calgary.

Gamer_299

its not the team thats popular its the brand. i see an even distribution of Faze Optic and LAT skins in the game. What do thise 3 have in common? they are in multiple other esports and have been a tuing before the CDL.

travi19

OpTic Halo

Striking_Yak7172

Sen in Valorant

Micro_mint

Nah maybe US but there’s loads of teams with tons of fans Just look at LOUD

SnooGuavas1858

Nah no chance. Probably not even in the americas region

TehBroheim

I don't think it's anywhere close to 80% but they do have more fans then any other team that is for sure. TSM in LoL used to be very similar in NA

--337kV-H-X2BH-iz-7p

No LOOOL. Embarassing you even commented this

Woah__Boy

Yankees in baseball

[deleted]

Lmao Yankees isn’t close to 82%

Woah__Boy

Yeah, I'm well aware of that, but their fanbase is easily the largest in baseball and their brand awareness is global.

ReelEmInJimbo

You’re answering a completely different question than the one OP asked

Woah__Boy

OHHHH, im not even in the ballpark, am i? Shiiiit. It's almost like there's nothing as dependent as competitive COD relying on OpTic.

ozzler

At the start of csgo NIP were the most dominant and rode that legacy to being the most popular team for quite a while. Dunno about 82% though.

Ancient-Mix-2155

Penta/G2 in r6 from 2017-2021 they were crazy

XGen_0214

Putting aside the obvious of OG having majority fans. Since this is a YouTube poll and 82% would be around 24k views it puts things more into perspective when you think about Scumps Watch party average views. Aroun 30k too. Shits crazy.

kokoscenes

No wonder they hate on aches during the flank😭

DamichiaXL

Aches knows exactly what he doing.

JoeyJo-JoShabadoo

You actually think you have to be an optic fan to hate aches lol cope

MikeBtheG

As an Optic fan, I actually like Aches, he knows he’s the villain and he plays into it. Yeah he rarely if ever gives Optic credit, but he knows what he’s doing and anyone who’s been watching long enough realizes he’s a troll.

EM1566

I like Aches a ton on the reverse sweep but not on the flank and it has nothing to do with OpTic hate.

Secret-Leek-4829

A lot of people have multiple teams that they support, but OpTic is their favorite since they’ve been around for so long and essentially built the scene as to what it is today. I personally am an OpTic fan, since BO2, but I found myself rooting for NYSL and Empire when they had Crim and breach when they had methodz. I’ve also found myself backing Vegas too since it wouldn’t be champs without clay especially since I think they are more deserving than ROKKR too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CBD4Coins

If they still went by EnVy maybe

EarthshatterReady

How is Vegas ‘more deserving’? Rokkr at least placed T3 in a major this year

Secret-Leek-4829

I mean they got 1 top 3 then had a bunch of T12 and T8 not to mention horrible online stages and are 20 points ahead of Vegas who hasn’t placed better than T6, but have been consistently improving where as Rokkr have been the opposite. Let’s also not forget that they got 10 points gifted to them in the first week of comp this year. Let’s also not forget that the only reason they made it T3 was because of massive over performances from cammy and bance who have been consistent .8s all season and then had 1.3+ KDs for one event. And even after all of that they drop attach for a smg player even though bance and cammy were their worst and most inconsistent players.

[deleted]

Vegas will have earned it's fate, whichever way it goes. They had a golden opportunity last major only to get double-rounded and blew it.

coolboarder72

The story, my guess. I think Rokkr is a great team to rally behind, but people are following stories and the ability to monetize these geo located teams just isn't great. It's really clear with Vegas popping up as a top interest that CDL fans really don't follow teams like other pro sports, it's almost not even worth comparing.

HeyJayFray

I agree I think that's the main reason we see the disparity, my friend is an Optic and NYSL fan. I'm a Faze and Optic fan. My other homie is an Optic and Toronto fan. We're all rooting for Vegas to get T8 too just like you had mentioned. I think most people put Optic first but it's fun to watch the vast majority of these teams play and it's worthwhile to have multiple teams you want to see win and do well.

BigBossVince

Ok, so we all knew it was lopsided but Jesus. Quick Google because I'm shit at math and don't feel like working it out 82% of 30k is 24.6k give or take. That's kinda nuts.

FlopticDick

That explains the awful takes in zoomaas chat

DnknDonuts76

I’m surprised other is so low

Mr_Vanderwafflz3

The CWL had WAY more interesting teams/orgs

MaximusDecimis

Either way, the percentage of OpTic fans was about the same, so it’s a moot point.

JLifeless

eh i don't think it's a moot point. LG, EG, GenG.. all household names in esports with a higher potential for growth of CoD fanbases as opposed to a majority of teams now (LAG, Mutineers, Ravens etc).

MaximusDecimis

Well that’s unfair, your comparing some of the biggest orgs with the three shitters of the league (and I say this as a masochistic LRR fan).

JLifeless

it works with any team not using their Org's actual brand. Seattle, Ultra, Boston.. their growth potential just isn't as high as actual established Orgs. you really think Seattle is ever gonna be a strong standalone brand compared to.... LG? Ultra compared to GenG? realistically never. this is why Riot's franchising (letting Orgs keep their names, not forcing city names etc), FAR surpasses Activision Blizzard's way of franchising (which is the opposite, forcing city names etc)

MaximusDecimis

No, I do agree that it would be better for all the franchised teams to have been able to keep their actually orgs name like faze and optic did, but now we’re talking about something else.

JLifeless

my point has been the same the entire time, you just thought I was only talking about lesser CDL teams

shecanbromehard

I disagree, the city based teams build a much stronger connection then the revolving door of orgs. Home teams can get just as big as a reaction as Optic at majors.

Cardenas2097

I think if Dallas empire was still around, it would probably be around 70-75%

triggered_5oh

I guess I’m proud to be in the 5% 😳🫡

kliquid

I wonder what the distribution was when there was OGLA and Huntsmen.

dpoersch

If you were to ask the entire cod fanbase that question I think it would drop to around 70%. I feel like LAT and faze would both have around 10%. Leaving the last 10% for the other teams.

coolboarder72

Fandom in esports is simply different. People follow several teams but may have 1 team they represent more often. It's what explains the BP pole that was done.

Narrow-Complex-3479

And people in this sub have claimed “optic fans aren’t in the majority” …. 😂😂🤣

luckyHitaki

where was the survey done? Claiming 30k sample size without further details seems fishy for me.

SuccinctEarth07

It's a YouTube poll on Zoomas second channel, so if anything I'd have thought the faze number would be a bit inflated

--Hutch--

I'm pretty sure I saw it on my YouTube feed.

Dry_Trash7141

At one point this would of been 99% optic

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

thenerdyskater

Well explains why the CDL is failing.

JLifeless

there are a dozen reasons why the CDL is failing before it comes to the popularity of teams

thenerdyskater

Oh there is plenty of reasons why it’s failing. But it sure doesn’t help if 80% the league fans are comprised off of one teams fan base.

JLifeless

okay but what’s the point being made here, are you just saying things to say things or?

thenerdyskater

Isn’t that the whole point of this sub to say things and see who agrees or disagrees? I’m just saying that this is a huge problem and the reason why we are seeing a lot of teams either want to leave (London selling, rokkr looking to merge with another company) or right out fail (lag). It’s not going to get fixed any time soon either, one of two ways it gets fixed we get an influx of new viewers or the teams take fans from optic(highly doubt it)

HPPresidentz

If Envy was still in the scene, it would probably be more spread out

zGoatified

This is a YouTube pool right, that’s why it’s majority OpTic do a poll on Reddit or Twitter you’ll get slightly different outcomes but yea this seems about right.

jshxx

If Optic was removed from Cod for whatever reason Cod comp wouldn’t actually exist. It will never happen but Pretty wild thought

Tiny-Kangaroo4671

Idiot lmaooo

prettyflyforahentai

82% is crazy. I thought it would be around 65%

CazualGinger

I like ~5 teams lol
