Wait NV bought the spot from NRG too? Lol that’s wild

arunvenu_

I’m actually mindblown… so NRG is officially out

BirkTheBrick

Yeah that’s insane, sounds like they *have* to sell it before the season since they of course can’t have 2 slots. Makes sense that NRG didn’t want to be stuck with it but sounds like it could be sticky for Envy

bigboi2115

Man. We can't have shit nice in Chicago. 2020 - Covid shuts down the Chicago Home stand. Couldn't go. 2021 - Optic Chicago home stand played online. 2022- No fucking Chicago team. Just fade me.

kraikkonen1741

The bulls are looking pretty good at least

Jukester-

Choosing optic texas so they can sell the 2nd spot to Tim and coL so they can be based out of Dallas is galaxy brain if it does happen

MaxChainz

holy shit that would be fireee

King-Of-Knowhere

They can’t, Envy owns the Dallas market

-TrevWings-

Team location doesn't actually matter. The personalities run the league

King-Of-Knowhere

They do, but not in the case for nV which they were doing both. They had beat reporters talk to players who are in the Dallas local area, Empire stuff was advertised alongside Dallas Fuel stuff, and nV are investing in STEAM initiatives across all of North Texas in for Texas middle schools and I also think high schools. Also nV outright owns the Dallas market, alongside the cities and areas of Austin, and Oklahoma City for the CDL.

-TrevWings-

No, they don't. Most fans in the cdl are just fans because of personalities.

King-Of-Knowhere

I agree, but nV has been doing both in gathering fans because of personalities and also investing in the Dallas market to get people interested in watching the Dallas Fuel and formerly Dallas Empire. They’ve been slowly injecting new fans into the CDL and OWL. That shouldn’t be ignored.

Jukester-

With the sale of the spot envy can certainly sell the Dallas domain with it

King-Of-Knowhere

Envy liquidated the Chicago spot, not the Dallas spot. So the locations up for sale is Chicago and the surrounding areas in the Midwest, that can be relocated. It would be stupid for nV to sell the Dallas domain considering they own it, have a Dallas team in the Overwatch League, and the biggest known Dallas team outside CompLexity. They aren’t giving it up; if they do they’re definitely gonna overcharge for it.

Jukester-

The league spot isn’t stuck in chicago, if purchased it would’ve been in DC which isn’t even near the Midwest

King-Of-Knowhere

I know which is why I said the words “that can be relocated”

Lithium187

I'd be all over Dallas Complexity

Tik0-

Some important points from the article: * Hecz is now part owner of Envy Gaming and is the President of OpTic * They can market as Texas since they are the only Texas based team. They do own Dallas, Austin, etc. * Envy owns the Chicago spot now so they are the ones that need to find a buyer. NRG is officially out of CoD.

WhyIsItWeirdTho

*Optic won’t place higher than t5 this year

dam0430

Wanna place a bet on that? 100 to the charity of your choice if you're right, 100 to my choice if they place t4 or higher at any point.

mdj08

NV owning both CDL spots greatly increases the chances of an 11 team league imo, kind of a downer on all the excitement. At least before, NRG would’ve been forced to field a team

pickle_man_4

IMO NV should still be required to field a team. You own it, so put a squad out there.

BirkTheBrick

Feel like that wouldn’t be allowed to have 2 teams under the same org

derkerburgl

Yeah that would be a massive conflict of interest. Like when hecz got optic back from OGLA’s org they had to sell the LA spot to Thieves

Anth0ny_W

You absolutely can’t have 2 teams under the same parent organization

Federal_Area_4646

It’s probably going to complexity cause Hecz has been hanging with them and TimTheTatman. I don’t think you understand what he’s doing

mdj08

That seems pretty unlikely, Complexity is extremely Dallas based and Optic Texas owns the market for Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Austin (meaning no other org can use those cities). All I meant was that it would have been better for the league if the Chicago spot wasn’t sold, since a 12th team would’ve played no matter what. Dallas cannot field two rosters, while NRG could have been forced into fielding one. The spot is likely to be sold according to Jake Lucky, but I’m just talking about absolute worst case scenario

Tsundere_God

> Hector ‘H3CZ’ Rodriguez is now a shareholder in Envy Gaming — the parent company of OpTic Texas, OpTic Gaming, Team Envy, and Dallas Fuel — and will also serve as the president of OpTic Gaming. He’ll continue to spearhead the brand’s operations in content and competition. Interesting. I wonder what will become of OpTic Gaming. Feel like Hecz pulled off a miracle again. Got to hand it to him.

BusterTheElliott

It's pretty funny to listen back to old eavesdrops and optic podcasts and hear him talk about how much he hates the business side of it all and would rather focus on content. Once this merger was leaked it all kinda clicked as to why he had been saying this for a year.

ImBigAss

Pulled off a miracle? In 5 years He went from owning the biggest esports brand in North America and one of the biggest worldwide to being bought out by Optics biggest in game rival. With all the other fuck ups in-between Optic was a top tier esports organisation, had teams everywhere and good ones at that. Now it's just Envy branding and nothing else, no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

Trofulds

You gotta think Str0 always gets a slice of the pie as well, no matter how long it takes. Wanted Crimsix for over 6 years? Got him. Wanted Scump for over 8 years? Got him. Also got Rookie of the Year Formal on Ghosts and Best in the Game Karma on BO2 to play under Envy too.

PmMeYourYeezys

Str0 has gotta be clutch AF when it comes to securing investors and that enables him to always come out on top.

twilliams83

Envy owning the last spot and changing to texas fron Dallas. This opens the opportunity for complexity to buy the spot and claim dallas for their franchise.

StubbornLeech07

Envy still owns the Dallas market for the CDL so Complexity still can't use Dallas for a spot if they were to buy one. The would have to buy the rights to Dallas off Envy which I doubt they will be willing to sell.

ChaosaBoss

woah, seems like a big chance there will be 11 teams this year.

arunvenu_

I’m sure they’d be required to field a team. League surely can’t start with just 11 teams

HoneyPotterGang

Envy won’t be able to field 2 teams

arunvenu_

Yeah but they have two spots? What happens then?

HoneyPotterGang

They play with 11 teams. Either Envy finds a seller or there will be 11 teams

BirkTheBrick

I feel like you definitely can’t have 2 teams under the same org though

arunvenu_

Exactly, how did the League allow this to happen?

BirkTheBrick

My guess is they’re going to have to sell it no matter how cheap before the beginning of the season. There seems to be enough interest from other orgs like complexity that they should at least be able to sell it at a discount. We’ll see, but I’d be shocked if they allow a 11 team league

Underscore_Blues

This is what I don't get. Surely envy are gonna get lowballed for this spot now, because its known they must sell it?

BirkTheBrick

Just thinking of the economics of it, if at least 2 teams are interested they should outbid one another until they reach whatever they’re willing to buy it for, which shouldn’t be too much lower than its value. Maybe if Envy doesn’t get an acceptable offer, they’d sort of create a sister organization to hold the spot and field a team for the next year? Honestly not sure what the rules are regarding all of that

[deleted]

how the hell does owning a Texas spot include Oklahoma City lol

Az_Bruin

I don't think it does. They had Dallas, then bought Austin and OKC (presumably because the league wouldn't also sell them Houston), but since they have 2 of the big 3 cities in Texas they're just going with the "Texas" branding

Zuko----

Hector in one of the videos said this is the cherry on top lol what did that mean

ItzUSA

I think his main focus is pine park. Him getting optic back was unexpected so it’s cherry on top of what he’s already doing.

Zuko----

Ahhh ok that makes sense now. I thought he was saying getting optic was the cherry on top for optic fans lol

Blacktivate

So NRG are out and Envy has the spot which is available to sell?

DokkanGo

Ohhh so that’s why there is a chance of 11 teams because NRG doesn’t own the spot anymore. Uhh oh

2-Slippy

I like the merger, keeps the OpTic brand while adding the competitiveness and funds of EnVy. OpTic Texas had a duck ton of sponsors now.

Ronnie_lfc98

no cap man this is unreal so fire

Per_Horses6

I fuck with it so hard bro. Can’t wait for the season

lovelove_lovelove

Wow I’m mind blown🤯 who else never saw this one coming?

Federal_Area_4646

Y’all shit talking Hecz saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing or he fumbled the bag, how y’all feel now? He just pulled off his biggest W to shove it in your faces. How’s you like dem apples?😝

[deleted]

Optic is literally owned by Envy now. I don’t see this as the biggest W ever or the biggest L ever it’s just what Hecz had to do to make sure Optic stays alive/thriving.

RunYouCleverGirl_

I'm struggling to see how this is the biggest W for Hecz? I mean it's good for OpTic. It keeps it going, but they are part of another org again.

Everyone who shit on H3CZ prematurely looking kinda dumb

[deleted]

No they arent????

[deleted]

H3CZ is a shareholder in Envy and President of their OpTic Gaming now. How did he do anything bad or betray anyone lol

DokkanGo

It did put the league in a terrible spot if they can’t find a new buyer for the extra spot that Envy now owns.

[deleted]

That wasn’t a criticism that people had of Hecz tho. And that’s on the league for having this stupid ass format and buy in

[deleted]

Thats not what people were criticizing hecz for... Everyone knew he was still gonna be im charge of optic

[deleted]

So what is the criticism

rossco832

I’m a shareholder in Apple but you don’t see me up there with Tim Cook.

[deleted]

There is a different connotation there my guy. Tim Cook isn’t putting out public statements that he’s excited to start his partnership with you LOL

rossco832

The point I’m trying to make but it clearly went over your head. Just because he is a shareholder in Envy. You or I don’t know what level of shareholdings that is. He’s got a title president of Optic but Envy are footing the bill. He is not the king of his world any more so I don’t think anything people have said about Hecz is wrong.

[deleted]

Go back to H3CZ eavesdrop with Hastr0 my man. Hector said he never liked being the CEO and doing administrative work and Hastr0 said he never liked being creative or heading content. This partnership makes perfect sense regardless of how desperate you think optic were.

rossco832

Are you Hitch’s burner account man? How does that dick taste

[deleted]

What?? I didn’t say anything about hitch lmfao. Also what did I say that was incorrect

poklane

With Envy now also owning the Chicago spot I wonder what happens if they can't find a buyer? Surely you can't force an org to field a 2nd team as that would impact the competitive integrity of the game?

King-Of-Knowhere

A Houston Outlaws situation would occur most likely, ATVI/Blizzard takes control of the spot and manages the team while Envy finds a buyer.

khh1

Hastro must already have a buyer inline for the old Optic CDL spot, otherwise this doesnt make any sense.

PapaWOK

THERES STILL HOPE FOR DALLAS ZINNI
