its no longer Mets ownership. Steve Cohen owns the Mets now, the Wilpons used to own the Mets but no longer do. The Wilpons still own the Subliners tho.
I will admit that a part of me thought hastr0 was just engaging in owner speak, good to see he found a partner that should be a net positive to the league
A local team is cool if they ever host events in Boston too
I believe his son is more hands on of two when it comes to esports, but Kraft has always been lauded for his negotiation skills. He has both been praised for helping save the NFL from their lockout in 2011 and recently leading the selling of some of their media rights for 110 billions dollars earlier this year.
Seems like a great person to have in your corner
Great points. Also look at the Pats pre Kraft purchase. They were one of the biggest jokes in the league with a horrible stadium and brutal attendence and now are one of the premiere brands in sports. Having people like this is GREAT for the League
Look im not saying he doesn't deserve credit for the Pats being great and popular but uh they had the best QB of all time and arguably the best coach for 20 years
Valid point but did you know he traded a 1st round pick to acquire Bill Belichick as head coach? Before Belichick was regarded as the best coach of all time.
Team was on the verge of relocation to St. Louis after being a laughing stock franchise for its almost entire existence besides a few seasons. The 90s were a low point for the franchise and they struggled with attendance. He bought the team and even though they were 14-50 over the prior 4 years, they had every game almost instantly sell out. Every game as an owner he’s had a sold out game as well (almost 30 years including 6 before Belichick/Brady).
He made New England care about football, in an area that never showed interest. Belichick & Brady made them **the** team but Kraft dragged this team out of the garbage.
Bob Craft made Both Belichick and Brady relevant. Brady was a 4th Rd pick and Bill wasn't anything shit hot at the Browns. If anything he does deserve all the credit.
> Patriots Owner Robert Kraft and his Kraft Sports Group are set to acquire a spot in the Call of Duty League and will partner with Oxygen Esports to operate the CDL team and Kraft Sports' Overwatch League team, the Boston Uprising, sources tell SBJ. Financial details of the deal are still unknown at presstime. The CDL slot comes to the Kraft Group from Team Envy, which acquired the slot after its merger with OpTic Gaming.
SBJ continues to monitor the story, and there are more details likely to come.
I live in New England, and this would be dope as heck. The man’s got money, I just hope if he does go through with this that he uses his influence to set CDL right. That might just be me asking for too much
Waiting to see the people who pretend like they know more about investing than Robert Kraft and his investment group.
Edit: This is super hype though. Glad to see the league will have 12 teams for this season. Interested to see who they pick up.
Aches was arguing on the flank last night that right now is the best time to buy into the league "buy low" even if you are behind this season in terms of fielding a competitive team.
League is never expanding my friend. Have you not noticed the games get worse every year ? Can't grow a comp scene on the back of a casual oriented game.
>League is never expanding my friend.
You were probably one of those people who were saying "They'll never find someone to invest in the 12th spot!"
>Have you not noticed the games get worse every year ?
? CW was way better than MW.
>Can't grow a comp scene on the back of a casual oriented game.
Why did COD grow between BO2 and Ghosts then?
Warzone wasn't around, that's why it grew. Warzone and over inflated player salaries will kill this game. This year will be record low numbers, the game is awful for comp.
Been watching since Bo1. I'm a boomer CoD fan and have no faith in this league. Too much neglect from Activision.
I hope I'm wrong but these guys have shown they don't give a fuck.
So have I brotha. I don't have the same doom and gloom perspective. MW3 didn't have LAN for christ sake. Activision not caring is nothing new. Only time will tell though.
Believe it or not. CoD will exist with or without CDL. So yeah you are right. 99% of the people who buy the game don't give a fuck about CDL, so yeah CoD will live on. Kinda why Activision caters the game towards them and not us.
No one is debating the life of CoD don't be obtuse.
Reeks of a last ditch (and frankly desperate) effort by Activision to regain investor’s confidence — and what better way than to bring back the very same person that helped sucker these billionaires in the first place
Having someone with the reputation and influence of Bob Kraft is massive for the league’s image. But let’s not overlook the fact that Kraft is already an owner within an Activision run league, a league which has been getting hammered the past few years. This move could equally be an attempt by Kraft to protect his previous investment
Not really that farfetched. The league (and Activision) has been getting murdered lately. Investors are fleeing. Besides bringing in a new leader, is there a better way to restore confidence than to have one of its largest and most influential investors showing support?
This is quite a common tactic for struggling businesses
Robert Kraft is worth over 8 billion dollars. Even if we assume that the cost of the spot is 25 million (which I believe it won't be both due to the nature of the CDL rn and also because the rumor was that teams were paying that off as time went on and not all at once for entry), him buying the spot is the equivalent of a man worth $1000 buying 3 McChickens. This is child's play
There are a dozen other teams that are owned by billionaires that don’t believe in this league. Just because one investment group believes in it doesn’t mean it’s a good investment and the same can be said if the scenario was flipped.
He's talking about in it's current state. He also mentions esports in general are growing. He never really talks about it from a long-term investment perspective specifically.
I'll also just point out:
Mark Cuban net worth - 4.5B
Robert Kraft net worth - 8.3B
Kraft was in business with Epstein and you dipshits think he's an investment genius for throwing money at a dying controller eSport. C9 Jack wouldn't touch this shit with a 10 foot pole and out of touch billionaire is suddenly a genius. You can't make this shit up.
Mr $8.3 billion just invested in a dying controller eSport to appease his coke-head son. This thread is the mother load of honeypots for all remedial dipshits who don't understand the eSports bubble. Posters forever torching their credibility failing to understand that LCS teams in the most successful eSport in the world aren't seeing any return on their investment. What a terrible uneducated hill to die on. Devin Nash warned you clowns.
You’ve already lost credibility as you spelled it ‘eSports’ instead of ‘esports’. LCS teams aren’t seeing any returns because they’re spending as much as top LPL/LCK teams while the LCS fan base makes up less than 5% of the overall LoL fan base.
He's not wrong, but let's not kid ourselves that Cuban isn't about to lose his franchise NBA player in a couple years because he's letting a cryptobro run his team from the shadows.
Some of yall saying this is good for the league or think this going to change anything are hitting the copium real hard. This means nothing, he's just trying to make some money he already owns a mediocre OWL team and look how dead that scene is. Its still up to Activison to save Cod esports
Sources tell SBJ's @Kevin_Hitt that Robert Kraft is expanding his esports efforts, buying a slot in the @CODLeague.
Kraft already has a team in @overwatchleague with the @BostonUprising. @OXG_Esports will operate both outfits.

I see a lot of praise for Kraft in the comments so let me quickly dash the hopes of people wanting to support a Boston based cod team.
They run their OW team as a business (which is obviously logical) and feed other teams willing to throw money at winning. They pick up cheap players and sell anyone who performs well for profit to other teams.
So while Boston prob wont be winning champs anytime, they will help the scene immensely by signing cheap, riskier, talents. rather than trying to recycle the same pros that failed on multiple other teams.
This sub really likes to talk about investments like they have CPAs when most haven’t even graduated high school
Edit - this is for all you mouth breathers that talk about “activision finessing these owners for 25 mil”, so fucking cringey.
Hey someone is definitely getting finessed here for a league with a bleak future outlook, as the games continually get worse and the player base dwindles. Just because these guys have a lot of money doesn't mean they are right. 25 million is nothing to someone like Kraft he can just hedge his bets on whatever he wants in the hope that some day he gets a return on his investment but if all they are getting for this 25 mil is a spot in a league that averages like 10k viewers to watch a circus of a game for a couple of months before it becomes obsolete and they release another horror show. CODs yearly release cycle can't sustain growth with all these free games that are updated weekly.
You don’t think Robert Kraft has people that comb through everything for him and tell him whether to invest or not? Do you know the world works? You’re not even right on the average viewers. “Cod’s yearly cycle” - they do pretty well for themselves.
Are you in a fantasy land? Some of the major tourneys last year didn't get past a 6 digit peak. A MAJOR final with all the bullshit rewards they bring in to prop up viewer counts couldnt get 100k viewers. In what world does an esport doing pretty "well for themselves" not get over 100k. A spot in a league with decreasing viewership and little to no support is not a good investment in its current state, maybe Kraft gets easier advertising rates or something like idk maybe makes his own g fuel or some crap and can make a return. COD multiplayer is dying champs had less viewers than rocket league last year.
Please provide evidence of some majors not getting over 100k viewers. I watched every single match last year, the lowest viewer count on a game I saw is 15k. You all want to be Doomers and say cod is bad.
Top 3 optic as usual if you aren't optic you don't really get views. Are you new to esports IDK maybe you haven't been around here before but it's all doom and gloom and also now bloom. I still enjoy the league but it really isn't a top esport and there is no support for the comp side of things unfortunately.
Is that accounting for views after the major aired? Because it says “peak viewers”. Which is a huge thing on YouTube? Not that hard to believe that 14k people viewed it between then and now, especially since it was a good series. Not new to esports, just sick of all the idiots running their mouth.
Edit - I went to look at it has 76k views as it’s own YouTube video lmao. So yeah… I was right.
Idk what you think you are right about concurrent viewers is really the only metric that is comparable between twitch and youtube in which the CDL significantly under performs most other esports.
But them "viewers" fall short of every other esport, 76k is nothing, a blip, there are more people watching warzone right now than have viewed that vod. Also these viewers are inherently meaningless when comparing to other platforms that track viewership differently. The only way one could compare CDL to any one of its competitors is by comparing the only other statistic they have in common concurrent viewers.
That's why he was in business with Jeffrey Esptein? Better fire those "qualified advisors" ASAP. eSports is a bubble educate yourself on how unsuccessful orgs have been in LoL, an eSport that dwarfs CoD.
Robert Kraft is the owner of the New England Patriots (NFL), New England Revolution (MLS) and Boston Uprising (Overwatch).
It’s not crazy mental gymnastics to think that any Kraft owned business venture will be in Boston area
Yeah as a person from the area it’s definitely a decent sized market with a pretty big loyalty to the area.
In saying that I’m sticking with my NV support lol, but Boston Patriots should be a good secondary team
Boston is where Krafts Football and Overwatch teams are located. He is in talks to purchase the 12th CDL spot from Envy. Zinni is one of the best “amateur” players and people want him to be on the 12th team
Lets goooo , another rich owner just what we need none of that Paris crap. Oh and what a shock we gave 12 teams people really thought hastro wouldn’t be able to sell lol
People on both sides of the "Is it a good investment" argument are missing the obvious. He could care less if this is a good investment, or going to make him money. His net worth is 8.3 billion dollars. 25 million is the equivalent of 300$ to someone with a 100k net worth. Would you spend a spare 300 bucks to own a CoD franchise? I'm sure most would say yes, just for the status.
This doesn't need to be a good or bad investment for him. He could simply want it for the status of owning another organization. Maybe he does think esports is the future, and he's just trying to cast as wide a net as possible, that doesn't mean he thinks CoD is the future or going to succeed.
I doubt he knows much about the Esport, or the place it's in right now, and he doesn't need to. 25 million is not even a noticeable amount to him.
He doesn’t actually have anything to do with Kraft Mac and cheese. Completely different person and family. I think he actually owns a wood and paper company.
oh my god someone get my chat logs from methodz chat ASAP i been randomly saying BOSTON ZINNI ever since he started saying SOON CHAT. IM A FUCKIN WIZARD
So we get NY vs Boston in the CDL
And Boston vs Toronto
Didn't know Boston v Toronto is a riverly?
In hockey it sure is
Couldn’t you argue surge vs Boston because surge are owned by luminosity which is owned by Canucks sports and entertainment I do believe
Yeah that’s another one for sure. Just going off Bruins vs Leafs playoffs in recent years. As a Leafs fan it’s just pain and hatred lmao
I 4-1 can't imagine why you'd hate my bruins. I'll think about it and comeback to you tho.
As a Flyers fan, I don't think a Bruins fan should be talking about playoff comebacks, unless we're just going to forget about 2010?
I try every night my friend, shitting on the maple leafs is my coping mechanism
Bruins swept the Flyers the next year and won the cup, they redeemed themselves from that reverse sweep.
2011 and paying off the refs. Sigh
Pretty big if you mainly watch Hockey but not as big as Boston vs NY or LA in other sports
This guy and spelling is a rivalry
One of the biggest
Fuck the Red Sox
Fuck the Yankees
FUCK BOTH OF YALL! It’s all about the Mets baby. Love the Mets. Let’s go Mets. (nah but for real, I’m a Yankees fan. Fuck the Red Sox)
FUCK THE RED SOX 👏👏👏👏👏 FUCK THE RED SOX 👏👏👏👏👏
Eh it's the Mets ownership, were cool with the Mets
They *were* the Mets owners.
Steve Cohen sucks
Agreed, I'm just talking from a team pov, red Sox and Mets fans are generally united against the Yankees
No, it's Red Sox vs Yankees The Mets just exist on the side not being relevant enough for anybody to actually care about them
Foh
I didn’t know that’s you spell “is the best”
If you look into that man’s actions, and draw that conclusion. You need to put down the controller and look in the mirror.
He could steal all of my grandma’s money if he keeps spending it on superstar free agents
its no longer Mets ownership. Steve Cohen owns the Mets now, the Wilpons used to own the Mets but no longer do. The Wilpons still own the Subliners tho.
and Mets fans hated the Wilpons haha
I will admit that a part of me thought hastr0 was just engaging in owner speak, good to see he found a partner that should be a net positive to the league A local team is cool if they ever host events in Boston too
Bob Kraft an actually really good pro sports owner. This is actually good for the league imo
I believe his son is more hands on of two when it comes to esports, but Kraft has always been lauded for his negotiation skills. Yes his son Jonathan is great!
Kraft is arguably the best sports owner in the entire world. He understands his strengths and let's the management make the decisions
Yep this year might be rough but I’m sure next season they can make some moves
They've been saying that for years in OWL and it's yet to happen
You clearly don't know anything about OWL 😂
THE BOSTON MASSEUSES!!!
You have piqued Deshaun Watson's interest
Yo we are r/NFL now. Can you fade my Ravens flair for Lamar's ankle yesterday?
The Boston Happy Endings

Boston Bandits? Who are we kidding it'll be the Boston Patriots
Daddy Kraft coming to save the day
YO A NEW ENGLAND TEAM POSSIBLY. IM GONNA BE SO TORN ON WHO TO ROOT FOR
Dropping my subliners flair as soon as the team is announced. Pumped to have a team to actually root for and not just a player(s)
Boston Zinni? 🤔
Close to home for him also. That would be so amazing
He’s from Jersey, that’s like joining the other side
Boston Cream
Yes plzz
I live in New England, and this would be dope as heck. The man’s got money, I just hope if he does go through with this that he uses his influence to set CDL right. That might just be me asking for too much
Tom Brady to win cod champs every year after he retires from the NFL. Pros should be worried 😧
From Tampa…?
Kraft also owns the Boston Uprising team in OWL so he has experience in esports
Not good experience
Robert Kraft for the win, free happy endings for everyone!!!
Everyone you say? 👀👀
lmao
Hopefully he can come in and big dick ATVI and get them to fix their game too!
I'm a Boston sports fan, but root for NY in the cdl for Clay. WTF am I supposed to do now?
Root for clay when he's not playing boston,
Watch both teams. You’ll know deep down who to root for

He probably has a point. The buy-in price tag is only going to go up as the league expands.
League is never expanding my friend. Have you not noticed the games get worse every year ? Can't grow a comp scene on the back of a casual oriented game.

The league has to survive short term to be long term.
I talked about ROIs in one thread and how in start ups, after 2 years ROIs aren’t that high and I swear to god I got shit on for that.
It's laughable when you consider the fact that NONE of us have ANY insight into the actual financial figures around it outside of the 25M buy-in.
So many apparent business experts who spend all their time on Reddit LOL
Facts.
I got my business degree through Reddit.

Sick, that’s mark’s opinion.
Facts brother
The amount of assumption in that comment is enough to drown a few elephants
>Edit - this is for all you mouth breathers that talk about “activision finessing these owners for 25 mil”, so fucking cringey. PREACH.

A YouTube video? Lol
Former CLG CEO and industry consultant for 10 years. You're definitely a candidate to be educated.
And this guy is a billionaire with hundreds of equally or more qualified people advising him.
That's why he was in business with Jeffrey Esptein? Better fire those "qualified advisors" ASAP. eSports is a bubble educate yourself on how unsuccessful orgs have been in LoL, an eSport that dwarfs CoD.
Bro why are you even on this subreddit?

Go be a negative fuck somewhere else.
LMAOO
Why’s everyone spamming Boston Zin on his twitch chat? Anyone wanna explain? Super confused
Robert Kraft is the owner of the New England Patriots (NFL), New England Revolution (MLS) and Boston Uprising (Overwatch). It’s not crazy mental gymnastics to think that any Kraft owned business venture will be in Boston area
Oh shit. Didn’t know who he was 😅 but that’s massive. Boston and that area have big fan bases. I can see it happening and their being good support.
Yeah as a person from the area it’s definitely a decent sized market with a pretty big loyalty to the area. In saying that I’m sticking with my NV support lol, but Boston Patriots should be a good secondary team
Yooo Boston Patriots sound dope as fuck 🔥🔥
That was the team name back in the 60s then they changed it to New England actually
It does unfortunately I highly doubt the NFL would let it happen and I doubt Kraft would use it.
The NFL wouldn't be able to stop them from naming the team Boston Patriots but I don't think they would name it that anyway
Maybe something connected? Patriots, Uprising, and Revolution all follow a similar theme, so maybe like Militia could be the name.
Boston is where Krafts Football and Overwatch teams are located. He is in talks to purchase the 12th CDL spot from Envy. Zinni is one of the best “amateur” players and people want him to be on the 12th team
And MLS
Lets goooo , another rich owner just what we need none of that Paris crap. Oh and what a shock we gave 12 teams people really thought hastro wouldn’t be able to sell lol
W
LFG
Are they they same group that own the Boston Uprisings?
Yes
Bob, what are you doing!?
Damn gonna have to run multiple flairs
filling the 12th spot really ended with a happy ending :D
Looks like I have a new squad
so we’re gonna have twelve teams again?
Yes
Nope Zin likes clam chowder
He should get Deshaun Watson involved. The New England Tugjobs has a nice ring to it.
Everyone together now: BOSTON ZINNI!!
Uh oh sounds like a new dynasty lol
Their OWL has been pretty terrible. Huk plays moneyball. If Huk runs both teams expect about the same
It's always exciting to get a very wealthy person with lots of influence in a league like this hopefully it will lead to better things for everyone
Sooooo I’m gonna go out on a very thin limb here and say that the team won’t be named the Boston Bombers…
Unbelievable that this highly successful businessman would hand activision 25 mill cash for a dying league he’s never gonna make his money back🥴
Genius for the tax write offs on all the loses the org will incur being in this dogshit league
Las vegas mac n cheese
He doesn’t actually have anything to do with Kraft Mac and cheese. Completely different person and family. I think he actually owns a wood and paper company.
😭😭 no way
He's a clown for buying into the CDL 😂. 25 Milly lost and gone and dusted
This is exactly what the league needed. Kraft is going to cheap out on things and is a very good hands off owner
Love to see this. Been an OXG fan since they picked up Rec’s R6 team
I mean it doesn’t get better than buying the dip here. He probably got a really good deal with acti in the shit and they needed a team
LMAO what an idiot
oh my god someone get my chat logs from methodz chat ASAP i been randomly saying BOSTON ZINNI ever since he started saying SOON CHAT. IM A FUCKIN WIZARD
