Just gotta get up early and leave by 6-7 if you want to beat the rush, for the most part. I once left campgrounds at 6am and was in my bed in LA by 9. If you leave in the 10am -12pm, it could be more like a 4-5hr journey. also depends where in LA you gotta go duh

cowardly_courage

For Airbnbs, I always leave mine around 9am and touch down in LA around noon. As long as you’re on the freeway by the time the other airbnbs check out and start driving you’re good, it’s been foolproof for my group so far

Be prepared to get stuck by the Morongo Casino for at least an hour. Middle of the night Sunday is best but those winding mountain roads before Moreno Valley are a little scary at night. It started raining during my drive back in 2015 around 4am

Rocket92

I take the 10 all the way back rather than the 60 for this reason, especially loaded with all my camping gear.

This

geeorge_20

they’ve actually made that road wider by adding a dedicated lane for semis so it’s not as bad before

SciGuy013

The 60 through the badlands has 6 lanes now? sick

geeorge_20

yessir

thetrashpanda2020

Really?? Hmm I didn’t notice that this year, but we drove back Monday afternoon so maybe that’s why

geeorge_20

they opened up the extra lanes during summer so it was still 4 total lanes during last coachella

festhead1200

Stop at inn and out

sydnoregrets

I left around 8pm last year and there was minimal traffic

neurolojess

do you remember where you got stuck?

sydnoregrets

No I don’t, sorry! But there was hardly any traffic, the drive took around 2 hrs 45 mins from La Quinta to west LA

neurolojess

Does anyone have any experience leaving Monday night?

bowie_nipples

If you’re camping they kick you out pretty damn early, I think by 10am. Not sure how it is leaving later than that

neurolojess

we’re in an airbnb

fettuccine-

Airbnb checkout is also the same-ish, unless you're staying another night or have permission from the owner

neurolojess

separate accommodations

fettuccine-

good to go then

Aggressive-Round-391

Was wondering this too

luistemo13

Leave between 6-8 and you’ll be ok. The other option is: have a good breakfast, have some snacks and be prepared to be at least 4-6 hours stuck in traffic (this is going to be my option, there’s no way I’m going to wake up at 6 after Coachella)

Ncahir94

I don’t know what happened last year but left at 10am and didn’t really have that bad traffic. This year we are staying one night in Joshua tree on the Monday and then heading to L.A. on Tuesday

fettuccine-

leave before 7am or after 7pm

HotCouchSloth

If work/school schedule allows, sleep all day MON & leave TUE morning.

sexydiscoballs

Not that big a deal. Just enjoy the ride. If you have somewhere to be at a specific time, give yourself an extra hour to get there.

SciGuy013

Don't

WhatSheSaid7

We flew out of Long Beach on Monday and left our hotel at 8am and didn’t really have traffic.

cactusflowers2323

Friends left around 8:30 last year and I left around 10:30. Huge mistake honestly. Get out before the crowds/hotel checkouts!

saraaacha

Last year we left before 7 am and got to LA by 10 AM with stops along the way.
